Māori or te reo Māori ('the Māori language'), commonly shortened to te reo, is an Eastern Polynesian language spoken by the Māori people, the indigenous population of mainland New Zealand. A part of the Austronesian language family, it is closely related to Cook Islands Māori, Tuamotuan, and Tahitian. The Maori Language Act 1987 gave the language recognition as one of New Zealand's official languages.
Cook Islands Māori is an Eastern Polynesian language that is the official language of the Cook Islands. Cook Islands Māori is closely related to New Zealand Māori, but is a distinct language in its own right. Cook Islands Māori is simply called Māori when there is no need to disambiguate it from New Zealand Māori, but it is also known as Māori Kūki ʻĀirani (or Maori Kuki Airani) or controversially Rarotongan.

Both languages are not the same but share a lot of similarities. Each language are both unique and shouldn't be classified as the same.

@equilibrum999 The other name the islands are known by is "Kūki 'Āirani" which is the transliteration of the 'Cook Islands'. However, Cook Islanders (when talking about where they're from) would mention the specific island that they and/or their family are from instead of saying the Cook Islands in general.

The word "bāsileia" in the Maori language, to refer to kingdom? What influence did they have, to have a Greek word? It's just that kingdom in Greek is "Vasíleio" (Βασίλειο).

Well, considering the bible in English and modern languages are based on their Ancient Greek counterpart. It’ s propably how this word made his way into this prayer.

@@DoraEmon-xf8br In the Latin languages this word has already taken on another meaning, it is the word "Basílica" and in Romanian "Biserică" (Which in this is the default word for any church.)

So, Eastern Slavic personal name Vasili is basically the same as Germanic Karl?

@@matthewsiregar The word for "king" (kral, korol, etc) comes after Charlemagne (Karl the Great) in any Slavic, as well as in several non-Slavic languages in the neighborhood. Vasili (and its forms) is very common name in Orthodox Slavic countries, but rarely used in Catholic countries; different forms of Karl are common in Catholic countries, but rare in Orthodox.

« Māori » is the generic term Polynesian peoples use to call themselves. The meaning of it is « indigenous, from the land, etc. » In Tahiti, and the Society islands we call ourselves « mā’ohi » which obviously is a variant of the word Māori, which exists as well in our language. Originally, before the arrival of the Europeans we didn’t call ourselves māori or mā’ohi, this word was applied to elements of the Nature, like the water or the rocks : « e vai māori » as opposed to ocean water « e ‘ōfa’i māori » as opposed to the « to’a » the coral reef.

Maori came from Hawaiiki not cook islands. The hell you people on? We made a stop in the cook islands along our journey to our new home, some stayed some chose to keep voyaging. Than we came across a land with a cloud that seemed to cover the entirety of the land. We call it the Land of the long white cloud, or Aotearoa. Better known as New Zealand.

Have you ever found anyone to do Ni'ihau Hawaiian? (ʻŌlelo Niʻihau) It's a distinct living dialect from Standard Hawaiian. (Note: a question, I myself don't speak it)

It's like Portuguese is to Spanish there are some words that are the same exact same pronunciation and written like moe - sleep Then there are words that are written exactly the same but pronounced differently koe - "you " koe in NZM ( pronounced like "queer" in English - questioning) and in CKM it's more of hard Ko then e ( Ko- EH - questioning) "Koekoe"( starting of word *coin"without the "n" sound x2- meaning directly at you) Then there's words that have glottal stops NZM Tahi opposed to CKM Ta'i with stop after a - beginning into the i. Then there are words that are completely different NZM Kanikani and CKM Ura Ura - Dance ( NZM Kāre and CKM Aureka meaning negative negative term to the topic/subject). Then there's cultural differences and dialects even though they are somewhat similar like the comment above me their not exactly the same languages. Can they understand each other if your meaning a full blown complex conversation then no if you however meaning basic conversation then yes both speakers will get the gist what's being said.

Only in that one word, which is Greek in origin I believe. Only used in this prayer or reading scripture I’m guessing

The 'P' is pronounced as a 'B' plus like most polynesian languages cookisland language is corrupted we never had the gotta stop in our vocabulary. The letter 'H' was taken out of our alphabet.

Like most polynesian languages the cookislands maori is also a corrupted language. We never used the glottal stop in our vocabulary instead we used the letter 'H' 'F' when the white people write our language down they write it to their understanding with their british twist😂 our language was the exact same as our cousins to the east Havaiki. Tahitian-samoan and hawaiian are also languages that are badly corrupted.
