Congrats on your move! I’ve been here for a few months. I moved here from GA. Chicago is a vibe. I’ve been to New York on more than one occasion because of family there and it has its magic, but Chicago is “warmer” in personality if that makes sense. My Dad asked which do I prefer, it I quickly said Chicago. The fast paced hustle, eat or be eaten mentality of New York is not here. I know how it’s portrayed in the media but I honestly feel safe. I’ve been living and moving around on my own for a while and I’m always vigilant, but the tv will have you thinking everyone goes to bed to the sound of gun shots and that’s not the case. I like that I have the best of both worlds, big city amenities with the neighborly feeling of back home in the South. I don’t know how long I’ll be here but I’m also not running for the hills.

I know you've already moved by now, but thought I'd offer some advice. You are going to get way more for your money renting from a condo owner than any of the rental companies. That last building you saw was originally condos that were deconverted through a buyout by a rental company and they are working on updating them. Every unit in that building is different. The first 2 are in kind of a weird neighborhood in Chicago, I know River City has a lot of maintenance issues over the years and isn't the best for walkability. Neighborhood is really so important in Chicago, and areas around the river are pretty dead during non work hours and people can struggle with basics like a grocery and places to eat that aren't way $$.

What about Los Angeles? Seems way better for modeling/acting. NYC seems really dead compared to LA; I’ve lived in both. I’ve been curious about Alabama Coast towards Pensacola unfortunately the prices are so high but seems relaxing 😌 I’m looking in Chicago but not sure I can survive the 🥶 ❄️ It would be nice to know the prices?
