Fine that you mention the whispering of German words and the shouting of French, maybe with mentioning that in Europe one is expected to sing “Fianchetto.” Of course it is only in Italy that one should sing”Fegatello.” When playing the fried liver attack. Thanks James, that was a great win.

So good to see Wei Yi back in form. I reckon he got pissed at seeing Ding farting around, and thought, "F this shxt. I'll show you how it's done" 😂 Dude got motivated. As for the drunken grandmaster, I've always pronounced it "Ale-kine" or "Ale-keen". 👍
@Pintkonan
@Pintkonan 5 ай бұрын
the pronounciation is wrong, if you want to stay on the side of truely speaking the name in spirit of russian language. its aljechin ( the ch is spoken soft). the way you pronounce it is the english transliteration of a russian name ( and therefore not in the original spirit of how the name is spoken).

For pronouncing Alekhine. There's video of Daniel Naroditsky breaking the pronounciation down, strongly recommend watching that clip, but if you can't find it the original Алёхин would sound much more like Alyohin, with a softer k sound (more glottal, back of the mouth/into the throat even). The first way you said it is probably the most popular way to for English speakers, I've seen some complain about this terrible Americanization, but I (and I suspect many others as well) don't find it so offensive

The top GMs have not taken the time to really analyze Alekhine's defense. If you do you will find that Black has a very difficult time against the 4 Pawn attack. Of course the Modern variation with 4. Nf3 is a slight edge to White as well, but Black can hold with very accurate play.
