I unbox the very exciting 1:72 (true scale 1:87) Zvezda Greek Trireme and find the kit is not bad at all and has lots of possibilities. We go through the spurs and parts and take good look at the very detail instructions, most of which are for rigging.

i have built three versions of this kit so far and would not mind a fourth one, its really a nice kit and a no brainer, even for a rigging-noob like myself! you should consider some crew figures for this on the deck, Zvezda makes some very lovely hoplite figures in that scale, too. it will be great to see your take on this kit, which has a very special place in my modelling heart :)

The historic value of Greek ships,is as high as it gets! These ships (along with the Greek heroism and gats) are the reason,Persians didn't occupy Europe back then. The Greek Navy has never lost a war. Best Navy the seas has ever seen! Even today,70% of gas,oil etc, sails on Greek ships or ships of Greek owners on a different countrys flag.

Really nice model kit! I've built a couple 1/35 tanks from Russian manufacturers and the plastic was less rigid than what I expected. Careful fitting parts together because the plastic was so easy to break when doing not much more than handling it. I look forward to seeing her assembled and painted. : )

I just looked at the box lid for one of the Russian tank kits. It was something other than a Zvezda. I built about 85% of that kit last year. When trying to slip the wheels on to the axles I found them breaking off with hardly any force being applied. I can probably rebuild the suspension by replacing the plastic axles with brass rod, but have not figured out how I want to do it yet. If you know anyone who wants a Bishop with no wheels you know where to find one.

I always watch until the end . That looks like it will be a very impressive build Harry . Have you ordered the wood veneer deck and PE ram yet ? 😉 I counted 40 oars on the sprue you showed, so my guess is 120 . I would suggest that you highlight the English instructions with a yellow highlighter . (Tom's timely tip for the day) . Good luck with the rigging , it looks like an oardeal to me . As always , an entertaining and interesting video .

A wooden model with cloth sails can look a lot more realistic... but I often replace the plastic sails in a styrene ship kit and make my own cloth sails. The rest of the plastic kit can then be painted to look like wood if you have the skills.

@@HarryHoudiniModels Yeah, I have seen that. As you mentioned the bad ones are old and even reboxes of other manufacturers kits. I have built a coupl of their planes and the issues I had were my own making to be honest. I an building their Ural military truck at the moment and that so far is very nice, with plenty of detail. Just building the engine at the moment, but everything fits nicely and no flash. The prices in Russia, you can afford to buy a bad one a trash it. This kit is listed extremely overscale --it's nearer 1:100; and there's nothing 'greek' or 'trieres' about it. It's based upon a late Roman Republic 'trireme'. Dusek do an excellent 72nd trieres and pentekontor -and to be assembled from walnut strip (plank on hull) hemp and linen. Nice channel ---thanks. Edit: the oars are utterly incorrect in profile. Try to grab any book regatding the RL replica by Coates and Morrison to read about oar lengths widths etc. ; )
