Wish they'd do more with aedric artifacts, I've always thought they were a cool concept.

Agree. Add more Aedric/Daedric anything. Settings, quests that aren't just item grabs, characters, etc. Would be a nice change of pace.

Only reason I disagree is that they maintain their allure by being so unknown and it definitely puts them in a different echelon to daedric

@@mikek6150yea but aedra and daedra are not much different theyre basically like tamriels version of angels and demons of all religions here on earth so while daedra are usually demonic in nature aedra are angelic in nature all the followers of aedra have defined them as divine and angelic compared to daedra so theyre not a big mystery as u think now dwemer/dwarves are a complete mystery

You know I basically just accepted this quest on its face when I played Oblivion at first but you're right, it's kind of insane. What if he painted another Truepaint brush? You can breathe in the painted world, is he painting air? Can you paint air? Could you duplicate other daedric artifacts by imagining them with the brush? It's a funny quest to pick apart looking back.

IMO the brush is part of the Dibella = Y’ffre puzzle. Both are associated with Music, Singing, and the beauty of nature. Y’ffre is mentioned through both male and female pronouns. Notably, in Khajiit mythology, Y’ffre is said to have presented Nirn with the first flower and Dibella is always shown in her statues presenting a lily. For her part, Dibella’s imagery is primarily centered around plant life within the imperial cult. Both are also “never seen in the same place”, so to speak, as Elvish leaning mythologies recognize Y’ffre while the races of Man recognize Dibella(except Bretons who are a mix of man and mer). Lastly, one of the ESO loremaster articles straight up mentions the connection between Dibella and Y’ffre/Jephre with one of the questioners having Altmer and Nordic parents who refer to Dibella and Jephre as echoes of each other. Y’ffre is said to have shaped reality through songs and stories; art forms essentially. What is a painting if not a physical expression of a song or a story? A picture can paint a thousand words after all. I think the brush utilizes that concept to create a “new story” within Tamriel. A pocket realm within which the user has those abilities of Y’ffre/Dibella once used to shape Nirn. Similarly, Wardens are mentioned as being able to manipulate magical reality through Y’ffre as well and Spinners can manipulate past memories of individuals by controlling their “story”. I think these and the brush are all different ways of Y’ffre/Dibella blessing mortals with whatever power they have left.

I would also consider Sheogorath as another potential candidate for a Deadric Prince who could give them the brush simce literally allowing someones fantasies to become reality, and in essence trapping people in their own fantasy is a perfect way of generating more madness and insanity. Plus he is known to be a patron of artists of sorts, in his own twisted way. Unlike Clavicus Vile he would probably just do it because he thought it was funny on a whim, too, so no calculation or fair warnings would probably be given. And we know he had a penchant for creating or otherwise influencing pocket realms, from Skyrim, Oblivion and also ESO Ayvea.

Okay so one thing you bring up is that you don’t think Dibella would just leave her artifact lying around. But Auriel does just that with his shield in dawnguard. Some random falmer is just messing around with it lol.
@ImperialKnowledge

Very true but was it Auri El who actually gave that artifact? Wasnt the story of Auri El’s bow and shield that it was handed down for generations and only then fell into the falmers hands when the chantry fell?

See now I’m thinking about it like, what if you took a commission for a portrait of a local ruler? You go into a painting and create a replica of a living person? Does it have memories? Does it know that it’s going to be in stasis on a wall?

In a way, if in the Elder Scrolls universe reality is dictated by belief, whether that be in the gods or daedric princes. Then perhaps paintings which require the interpretation of us mortals have the capacity to become our own daedric realms of reality governed by what we think we perceive.

If the brush can create creatures that possess souls, wouldn't that automatically lock daedra out of the debate, because they can't create, only corrupt? Or am I misremembering something?

As to whether or not it is an artifact of Clavicus Vile... I lean towards not. Clavicus Vile gives artifacts when he makes specific pacts. Even if he were to have made a pact with some of these trapped people, he did not make any pact with the Lythandas family or any of its members, as far as we know. Also it has not simply disappeared after a while away from its original bearer like a Daedric artifact would. Daedric Princes reclaim their artifacts in time. This artifact remains after centuries. Whether or not it is Aedric is another question entirely of course. I like to think it is an artifact of Dibella, but I cannot be certain.
@pandorasbox4238
@pandorasbox4238 6 ай бұрын
It is actually likely an artifact of Vaermina. She is the Daedric Prince of artisans, of all things, on top of nightmares and such. This guy just inherited it, so he doesn't likely know the full story, as his father (or whomever), isn't exactly likely to brag about making a deal with one of them. Though, he is an elf, so... maybe he just kept it a secret to preserve his reputation.

The Aedra has Aetherius, were they have their own realms, just like the Daedra have their planes of Oblivion. Dibella could have a painted plane of existance, a musical, or a loving plane. It's a fairly untouched subject Aetherius, with us only visiting Sovngarde, The Far Shores and a slight incursion into the Mantellan Crux. The realms might function like Oblivion were when you killed summoned daedric creatures you could harvest them and bring it back to mondus, similiar to the painted trolls. Who knows maybe we will see more in the future.
@iron_bucket
@iron_bucket Жыл бұрын
I think you got it mixed up a bit. Aedra don't "have Aetherius", since it was specifically stated numerous times, that while some gods, including Magnus, escaped into Aetherius, Aedra and some other gods decided to stay due to being unable to escape, or not wanting to. Aedra and their planes are residing in Mundus

Rythe has an impostor syndrome with his painting but I've always thought that, if you are the one who imagined it, then you are the rightful creator of the painting. Sure, he doesn't have the mechanical skills to put his imagination to the canvas but that can always be practiced. A lot of artists will tell you that after a certain point, the technical skill isn't what makes art "art". Is an architect less talented because he did not build the house themselves? Just an interesting artistic / philosophical thought...

Honestly, the Clavicus Vile twist would be pretty good. And even if a Daedric Prince couldn’t create souls, all that he would have to do is recycle the ones of the people that died in the painted worlds until someone soul-gemmed them out. Plus, I’d be angry at the painter too if I died in the painted worlds and then got turned into a deer or a troll. Totally motivation to kill the nearest person with True Paint.

If his grandfather was as evil as we are made to believe, why would he not have used this brush for evil? I mean maybe the full power of the brush isn't understood within game. Do any of the alchemists buying painted troll fat know how it is made, or is that part still secret? Depending on how it works, a portrait of Tiber Septim, the Heart of Lorkhan, many such possibilities.

Probably this is a realm in oblivion, and the paint itself is a ilusion to make that realm look like a canvas, and the living creatures that are create by this brush is in fact demodras with some ilusion spell to make then look like what you imagine, then when you bring it out of the paint...

Yeah, the aedras only interfer in end of the world kind shit, like on the war between dragons and nords for example, no fucking way she just gave a artifact so powerfull (man really, this thing can create food and resorcers from nothing, unlimited) to be missused, anyone with this brush can literally rule de world, need weapons? got it, need money? got it, need armors that are indestructible? got it. Becase yeah, you can create anything that you imagine, and puff, it appears. What happens when you want to create a replica from the skeleton key for exemple? or a replica from the brush itself? this obvisly is not a aedra arctifact, and even there are other exemples of daedras impersonating another beeing to trick people. Like, if this is mean to help the capitives, why the brush still is on the evil sorcerer's family? propably was mean to the sorcerer, and fulfilled its function.
