I love that you're so instructive with the Caro-Kahn. It's really improved my play with tactics - I'm currently sitting at 1058 ELO and the openings I typically play are the Caro, KID, and Vienna. I've watched your Jobava London videos, so I'm working on adding that to my repertoire as well!

One thing I noticed about the Caro-Kann is that even my otb games against the 1700-1900 range seem somewhat effortless. It’s crazy but just make sensible moves and wait for them to f**k up really works! edit: I should clarify that this didn’t happen until I started following Alex’s advice

I like how the caro has a "coiled snake" natural game plan where you make slow improving moves until its time to strike!

As a lower rated player i find difficulty in the caro kann, it seems pretty technical with lots of refutes. Personally seem to have better luck with fried liver or the jobava. Even in those openings sometimes i run into scenarios where i end up blundering everything and find myself wishing i just put my pawns in a wedge and develop naturally, hoping after understanding the other variations of the caro kann maybe will start to use it more.
@FmFpF1992
@FmFpF1992 Жыл бұрын
I definitely had a learning curve with the caro, like any opening, but once i got some of the main ideas down, i am winning 55-60% of my games with it (1500-1600). What i love about it, is the pawn structure is largely the same in a lot of the variations, which creates familarity amongst the ideas across the variations.

Just watching these videos shows the power of setup and strong technical setups then attack. Sometimes it feels like the opponent must be cheating. But obvs they arent, they just followed the clues left from others success. Great videos. The most instructive of all teaching videos ive watched on youttube to date. Drilling skills over and over. The key is to not make any bad moves while waiting for the opponent to blunder. When you're playing somebody hundreds of points in strength below you even bad moves often work. That's not good for your improvement. This doesn't apply to Alex but it's pretty accurate for me.

Alex! As a IM playing against weak players, you should maintain respect despite their bad play or wrong choices, and not make fun of them. Of course they make mistakes to which you know how to react perfectly. Remember: this is about teaching chess, not a funny demonstration of weaknesses. Take your time to show us why the game of your opponents is bad. That makes very much sence. 😀

I only see provisional players trying to play bishop f4 or bishop c4 asap when they’re white. So when I get them on lichess I’ll I try to play my first move right away d5 or e5 . E5 if d4 d5 if e4 and they’ll 9/10 times hang their bishop on my pawn. They’re just so excited to play a system they saw on levy’s channel and they’ll blitz out that bishop Automatically without a second though.

why do people try to promote caro like it's the secret to success. It doesn't matter what you play. Probably any decent player could get to 1700 with 1.f6 against everything. I think caro is OK but botvinnik is bad because dxc5 and Bf5 you're getting hit with h4, g4 and Nc3 which is not pleasant.
