Yeah, it makes sense. Flynn was a real person is the real world. CLU was a digital entity in a digital world. And Jeff Bridges performance was top-notch. It was so funny when I saw how they recorded the scenes, in 2 different way. Once with full set, actors and actresses with proper sets and customes, and double of course. Second time everyone, but especially Bridges dressed like he's at home and his face painted with grid san dpoints the whole facial-capture camera on his face.

@MrMarsFargo
@MrMarsFargo Жыл бұрын
@@Hoto74 As a professional visual effects artist myself, this take is just objectively wrong. De-aging is not the same as motion-capture. With one, you can build a fictional creature that has no real point of comparison. There’s no real Navi, so there’s no “real version” to compare them to. But with de-aging, the difference is there’s a real point of comparison. Everyone knows what a young Jeff Bridges looks like. The effect on Clu is just as advanced and detailed as the Navi or Gollum, but the difference is that he’s a thing that actually exists. So now there’s more limitations with 2010s technology, because you can’t just build and design him from scratch like you could a fictional creature. Photorealistic human hair, skin refraction, wrinkles, facial muscles, and texture were impossible to simulate back in 2010. Just take a look at “The Last Stand,” which came out only 4 years before this. That’s why every de-aging effect attempted prior to 2015 looks bad. Modern de-aging doesn’t use motion-capture to do it anymore, like every attempt before had done. That’s the difference. So yes, the real reason this looks bad is in fact because it just wasn’t possible to do good de-aging back then. However, the fact this movie exists is why it’s possible to do good de-aging now; especially when you consider that Clu still looks miles better than any previous de-aging attempt had looked up to that point. They invented new software for this movie in order to do it, which later technicians have been able to advance and improve to do the de-aging we can do now. So without this film, we could never have quality de-aging. Therefore, the film deserves just a little more credit than you’re actually giving it. To suggest the visual effect artists were just “lazy” and “didn’t try” is not only factually wrong, it’s mean-spirited and deeply insulting to the hard work they put in to this effect.

@@S3SSioN_Solaris as time passes so too does the memory of events when people thought the cgi in films from over 10 years ago wasn't convincing. Spiderman 2 aged like fine wine. Spiderman 3 aged like soda. Tron Legacy was great but it was universally agreed the constant close ups on cgi de-aged Jeff Bridges was 9 levels of hell dumb. It's extremely convincing from a distance, except when they unironically put the camera on his face. Which I feel is an issue we still haven't avoided in modern Marvel films. In those films its almost as if the actors hairline is fake or their skin is too perfect but the intended effect is there. But we still notice something isn't completely there. I'm saying half the issue is the cameras point of focus. It caused majority of the harm. The CGI was just the nail in the coffin.

Classical RT/PT based CG and machine learning based techniques like deep fakes are definitely going to start merging more in the future, it's a guarantee. There's plenty of places in the CG pipeline for ML/AI software to take some of the burden from us too, sadly it may mean less jobs on the whole, but it will make some of the work simpler.

One thing I take from these DFs is that they map to the existing image, so they are at the mercy of the quality of the facial movement. This is evident with the mouth movements for words with O in them. It's been an issue for a long time with facial animation in video games but when watching a movie on such a big screen, it's imperative that a full range of facial motion is captured before any work is done on it.

Loved it, a huge improvement that makes me wonder when (and not if) films will start using this tech to de-age actors. I think there’s only really one fault I’ve spotted from this and that’s the eyes in two of the shots. The one set IRL doesn’t have him look at the camera, whilst the one at the grid’s exit don’t convey the same visible emotion as the CGI one. I imagine this’ll be something that’ll get ironed out the more this tech improves though.

That is a significant improvement it even adds an additional layer of subtly to the acting / animation performance too, so you have a better idea what he's expressing with his face from the enhanced version - I'd say this would make a world of difference on the big screen. Yeah, I believe with Rogue One it was CGI. I do want to see filmmakers use deep fake because I think it's cheaper than creating a 3d model of a person.

Let me add my voice to those saying that - even though the de-aging looks “uncanny valley” by modern standards - the attempt at the time was revolutionary enough to be a significant step forward towards what we have now. And - if I were in charge of a “special edition” or upgraded Tron: Legacy, that I would KEEP the “uncanny valley” de-aging for CLU. But use modern de-aging any time that a younger “User Flynn” appears, both in the real world and in flashbacks inside the grid. There are three quick scenes in the middle of the film that show the two of them together, and I think it would be fascinating to see both types of effects side by side. I wonder how many folks would immediately spot the difference? CLU’s slightly off appearance may have been accidental- but ironically it really works for the movie to enhance him as an unhinged program.

Much better! Amazing work. The original CGI just didn't look him - they got the nose and eyes angles wrong - and was unlife-like in its movements. You fixed it all.

A more real face for Clu adds a heavier weight to Kevin Flynn's inner guilty about his particular creation, which is showed when he said "He is me". I hope Disney to release a new version of this movie with some CGI improvements at Clu's face before Tron: Ares release.

Pause at 0:44. such a huge improvement the Studio should hire this team who would probably fix all of the original for 1/1000th of the price of the original.
