She's not lying .. leave your hair alone for 3 months + at a time washing your hair inbetween every month while your hair is in that style ( wash the roots ) & restyle ( re-braid ) only the front .. You'll retain THE MOST LENGTH!

Very true...I stay in Nigeria and extensions are VERY expensive, so I only install braids during Christmas celebrations and i keep them for 3 months. My hair retains the most length during this period

i had major success with hair growth and length retention leading up to 2023 but i got lazy and inconsistent with haircare leading to a current hair plateau. my aim for the next 4 months is to have my shrunken hair length below the shoulders

A tip for keeping the scalp clean: I have mini twist that is growing my hair like crazy. I started my hair growth journey in 2020 after suffering from ccca hair loss. Glory to God, my hair is fully restored, and scalp recovered!! I mist and seal my hair daily. I have 4c, low porosity. Extremely dry hair. I wash my hair every 4wks. Once a week i take cotton balls and Dickinson Witch hazel and apply on my scalp. This acts as antiseptic as well as Anti-inflammatory. This, along with an anti-inflammatory diet and herbal oils, has my hair past my shoulders!!

The thing that messed me up was not letting go of damage. My hair grows super fast, but I’m always hesitant about cutting it. If I had just chopped off the damage when I was supposed too my hair would be double the length. We gotta let the ends go and trust the process.
@victoriasvibesss
@victoriasvibesss 5 ай бұрын
You're right, we gotta let it go of the damage. It's like something mental happens to when you cut it off the first time. After that first time, I've had less anxiety about it afterward. I feel like there's so much attached to length that we're trying to hold on to as (black) women sometimes.

Idk if it's just me, but the front of my hair is way shorter than the middle and the back, the middle and back of my hair are around collarbone length, however the front of my hair reach around the bottom of my nose in so cases, it's so frustrating

Yes! It's annoying - you're not the only one. I think this can happen from several factors depending how you style your hair and where you put tension. You would have to give more moisture and attention to those specific areas just to keep them up with the rest of your hair. The breakage in front can be because we just manipulate the front a lot more sometimes, and I also would do a lot of low buns where the front of my hair had to stretch to the back so I had to stop doing that even though it was my fave style, and had to have more variety.
@justinewhite2418
@justinewhite2418 5 ай бұрын
It might just be because the hair on the front starts closer to the top of your head. All around your hair might be evenly 14 inches but because the back hairs start growing lower on the head and neck it is at collarbone length already. The front hairs may need to be 20 inches to get to that same collarbone length because it starts growing at the very top of your head vs the bottom

@@justinewhite2418 👆🏽 that too!! lol

And if you want all your hair to be the same length, you'd have to cut it all at that length at a point in time where the front is long enough. That's something I want to do eventually as well.

Some ppl retain length sure; but it’s thin and doesn’t maintain the same integrity from root to tip. That imo is the real challenge with type 4 hair
@victoriasvibesss
@victoriasvibesss 3 ай бұрын
Hmmmm, so true! That is the challenge! I think it def takes longer if you want the consistency/ integrity from root to end by trimming regularly. What do you think?

@@victoriasvibesss I’ve personally had my hair at tailbone length two times in my life and I’d have to cut 4-6 inches off bc of this issue. It has slowly (but surely fingers crossed 🥲) been resolving itself with trimming. I personally dust when needed and cut an inch every 3 months bc I still want to retain length
@victoriasvibesss
@victoriasvibesss 18 күн бұрын
@@rutho.6282 Okay, I dust every 4 months and it's not too much. Yeaaa, If you cut 1 inch every 3 months you are loosing 4 inches per year. If your hair grows the average length you would be left with 2 inches of growth per year. But, it sounds like you have a different goal in mind then just length retention to have fullness from root to tip (especially since you've reached tailbone) so I hope you get there! :)

A month and a few days late, but I’m joining you! New subbie 💕and you’re so pretty! What’s that hairstyle you’re wearing called, and would you consider that a length retention protective style?

Hey, never too late to join, so glad you're here! ♡ And thank you! I would like to put out a video on my knotless braids. I would consider them a length retention protective style that requires slightly different maintenance and upkeep then others since knotless braids are just a variation of braids since you have the added pieces and braiding hair. At first, I thought it was nothing more than a cute style but I started researching how naturals retained length/upkeep there moisture routine with braids specifically. I looked at how they moisturized their braids and I do the same and try my best to use the LOC method then possible.
