Join us for an exclusive onstage conversation moderated by Johanna Schneller at TIFF Bell Lightbox.
Alec Baldwin distinguished himself as one of the leading actors of his generation with his memorable roles in The Hunt for Red October, Glengarry Glen Ross, The Cooler, Blue Jasmine, The Departed and 30 Rock, where his performance as Jack Donaghy earned him two Emmys, three Golden Globes, and seven consecutive Screen Actors Guild Awards. In this onstage conversation, Baldwin will reflect on his career in film, theatre, and television; his interviews with artists, policy makers, and public figures on his podcast Here’s the Thing; and his upcoming memoir, Nevertheless.
“Most major film festivals tend to be a mix of festival and market, with the celebration and selling of films conducted hand in hand. Nowhere, however, is the blend of those two purposes (often competing) handled with more grace and dignity than Toronto. Add to that the fact that a significant part of their mission is to serve underprivileged youth, and you discover again why Toronto is the most respected festival in the world today.”

His 2017 memoir Nevertheless one of the great modern memoirs on acting and the business; keeping your dignity and intelligence in a shady business. Hope he writes a sequel.

It is extremely helpful to the audience if the actor, in this case Alec Baldwin, can display by way of interview, as it is in this case, an intellectual ability to explain in detail, the way he is explaining, all the various intricacies associated with his work and the industry he is in. Obviously there are great actors but nevertheless even though they give great and convincing performances, invariably they lack this finer skill that Alec Baldwin has, of being able to coherently articulate all those interesting aspects that he has so ably given us. Watching him in this interview situation, explain himself, this well, endears us to him. It’s a stellar performance. He’s an an analyst that can articulate incredibly well what his profession is all about. He is in a class of its own. Probably the best there is. It’s funny isn’t it. But in this arena no one comes close. And I think when we don’t give this well deserved recognition we harm ourselves. What is greatness? But before seeing this interview I didn’t fully appreciate this man. He is certainly one of the great great ones in the acting world. A nice man. Got it all together. Real. No off putting eccentricities. Very intelligent. I’ve never seen a better interview of an actor in my life, ever. He’s the king of this hill. They don’t get better than this. And for him it’s just a walk in the park. Interesting and entertaining person. Very clever. All of us wish him well.

Like who cares what Actors say. Cant you get intellectuals to really educate America. Nobel goal above Actors endlessly pontificating on themselves. Lots of people’s woes are brought on by social media and film’s “reinterpreted” reality!
