Life Begins at 51 for Harry Gant as he wins 4 in row.
The Goody's 500 was held September 22 at Martinsville Speedway. Mark Martin won the pole.

This was Harry Gant's 4th consecutive victory, tying the modern-era record for consecutive victories. Gant more or less dominated the race but crashed on lap 377 in Turn 3. The crash damaged the right front of the #33 Skoal Bandit Oldsmobile. This incident led ESPN's race analyst Benny Parsons to discount Gant as a threat to win the race. The team repaired the car the best they could (since this was Martinsville, this consisted of removal of sheet metal that could rub against the right front tire), and sent Gant back out. Gant proceeded to charge up through the field and overtook Brett Bodine for the victory with about 50 laps to go.

You know it's still crazy to me that he was winning races at an age when most drivers would be outta there prime at that point

Ole Harry knew that when the fenders were torn off the car during the race, the brakes got plenty if air to keep them cool. Cooler than the other guy with fenders.

It's been a while, but if memory serves me, during this 4 Winston cup win stretch, he also won 3 in the busch series in the #7 of Ed Whitaker, making it 7 victories in September.

Yeah Kyle did win four in a row at 27 years old, 9 or 10 drivers have but none has won four in a row at 51 years old. Harry holds the record for the oldest driver to win a cup race at 52 years old. Harry was 42 before he won his first cup race.
