A ‘zone’ is a delimited space, characterized by what happens in its midst. Referring to an area in sports, this term is also, in common French language, associated with sensitive suburbs. Today, its negative connotation tends to be reversed, especially through a reappropriation promoted by the hip-hop culture, present in the districts where the project takes place.This deployable and mobile architecture is grounded in this dynamics, authorizing and encouraging public space occupation, with the Olympic Games as a reason to gather a community.
Suitable for outdoor use, durable and biobased, light and strong, the wood is easy to set up and to reuse, especially if the assembly method is reversible.This material was chosen for the central structure, based on a trailer, which allows it to travel from a public area to another. It then connects to the surrounding shops and public infrastructures.
Divided into five sliding sections, it reveals new forms, supple and colored, consisting of foam and textile modules. Inspired by gymnastic equipment and upcycled from sport waste, they are put at the disposal of the users, to become the support of various activities.The dynamic forms question the body and its posture, connecting active and passive usage, inviting to both rest and the practice of some sports.
This flexibility paves the way for the appropriation of the support and space. The feeling of proximity, linked to the small scale, the accessibility and the ease of use allow the inclusion of all, in the context of this popular and festive event. Thus, what will define this fan zone is the collective energy of the users who take it over.
