This shouldn’t count, but I’d guess that Pretty Pretty Princess is the most played game on my shelf, considering I played it about half a million times in the 90’s 😂

Why wouldn’t that count? 👸🏼 How many times do you think you’ve played it though, really? Because I was thinking about some of the games we played growing up (Sequence, Stratego) and I don’t even think we played those 100 times… although maybe I’m just not remembering how much we played them!

I'm so glad that you went for it! Incan Gold works really well at two players with the two-explorers-per-player variant! Hope you find it as enjoyable as I always do! 💎

If you like Incan Gold, you should try Celestia. I have and enjoy Incan Gold, but have had times 3 of the 5 temple runs ended on the third card. Celestia is a similar push your luck game, but to me feels like you have more control over predicting if you should push your luck and stay or jump out of the air balloon and escape. In Celestia, players rotate being captain between every further balloon movement. Each player has cards in their hands that may combat the next upcoming threat. So you are not just pushing your luck fully randomly, but you are also reading the other players and trying to tell if they think they have the cards to get past the next threat or not. However, the captain may be relying on a jet pack card that lets them fly back to the previous sky island and still get treasures and points. Celestia does only play up to 6, and it is best with more players, but it is a great similar game to Incan gold.

Thanks for the suggestion, Randall! Incan Gold can be pretty brutal when those hazard cards keep coming out! (I'm typically not one for house rules, but if a round ends before any gem cards or artifacts come out we just mulligan that round. I find that players always prefer to play that way!) I really appreciate the detailed overview of Celestia! I've checked out the game a few times on KZfaq before but I'll have to do a little more research since it's been a while! Sounds really fun though, and I like the idea of being a little more in control of how much agency you have over the luck factor! Thanks again for the recommendation!

Thank you so much! It’s such a simple game; it’ll take you no time to set up, learn, and play it! It plays best with more players, and I had a blast teaching my girlfriend’s family over Christmas! A perfect family/filler game! 💎

when starting a new round, do you clear the faceup gem/hazard cards from the table? if so, do you discard them or return them to the deck?

You return the face-up gem and hazard cards back to the deck EXCEPT for the hazard card that ended the round (if applicable). You also remove from the game any artifact cards that were revealed but not claimed. Hope that helps! 💎

Nice tough nylon cards, i don’t think the iello version cards are as tough.

I've played a different version of this game but it was many years ago so I wouldn't be able to comment on the card quality of that edition! These cards have held up extraordinarily well after 100+ plays, though!

@@BoardGameDave yes version before the iello version had tough as nails nylon cards. (maybe nylon) which adds a ton if longevity. The bigger problem with the iello version is that they regressed the artefacts, they don’t have ascending numbers on them, three are worth 5 and the last two worth 10. The race for ancient artefacts had 5,7,8,10,12 for the artefact cards, genius idea.

@@xshadowscreamx That must be the version on Board Game Arena then, because I think the way it plays is that the first three artifacts that show up (regardless of the icons) are 5 points each and the later two are 10 points each. The version I have has the ascending point values, which I think adds a nice touch! I really like my version a lot! (Apparently there's a version that uses stay/leave cards? I like using the meeples, too!)

@@xshadowscreamx Oh, that's so interesting! To be honest, I never really paid any attention to the full title! I just knew that there was Diamant and also Incan Gold but I didn't realize there were two different versions of Incan Gold! Yes, I much prefer the meeples as long as everyone is able to simultaneously drop them! (We're real sticklers about the timing of the drops!) 😅

I certainly think so! Although I do think it shines with more players! One thing you could do (although I’ve never tried this with more than two players) is have each player control two meeples independently! It’s a fun way to add more choices and variability to the gameplay! 👍🏼

It’s certainly better with more players (BGG says it’s best at 6-8) but it works at three players well! Maybe try the two meeples per player variant at 3P?

For some people that's true, but for others, doing division quickly and accurately enough (in front of their friends, no less) to keep the game moving might be a little stressful/less than enjoyable! 😣
