Incredible - Alienware AW3225QF 4K 240Hz Glossy QD OLED Review
Alienware thought they could escape my review, but here we are taking a look at their 4K 240Hz OLED, a display many would consider to be an end game monitor… I wouldn't, but it is very good. Now the question is, is it good enough, or should you wait to buy one from Gigabyte, MSI, or ASUS, well strap in, because we're about to dive deeper than anyone thought possible.

Its not clear glossy. It has a grainy film: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/g7uiftJ1pqm2loU.html I think we should call these types of monitors semi-glossy to distinct it clearly from clear glossy screens.

It is next level. Color is super vibrant and with OLED panel performance is second to none. I had a Neo G8 4K 240hz and did side to side comparisons. The result is quite noticeable even though it has same refresh rate, the response time is uncanny

How do you think this compares to the innocm 32m2v? You can find it at half the price of the OLED and I'm unsure of which to choose. Can't decide on either higher peak brightness and decent local dimming vs lower peak and per pixel contrast

With so many different upcoming models of 4K 32" featuring initially QD-OLED and later also WOLED panels, the safest bet is of course to wait a couple of months if possible. My biggest concern with the QD-OLED panels in particular is how distracting I would find that Purplish-Grey. Sadly, so far I haven't seen any Glossy WOLED models being announced, at least not from a reputable brand...

I got this monitor and love it. I'm running it with the DP cable and 240Hz works for me without issue. I was worried because I've heard about issues with using DSC and with the brightness of OLED. However, I haven't had issues and it seems much brighter than my older Alienware IPS Ultrawide. I went into settings to turn down the brightness, but it won't let you with HDR on I guess. I have a secondary monitor connected also and have had no issues. I also connected a Xbox Series X via HDMI and it looks great also. So far the games I've tried on it are Halo Infinite, Fortnite, Alan Wake II. Looks incredible.

This is a good review with some questions that still remain. I see so many people talking about this monitor exclusively for gaming, but I feel like content creation is big market that people don't touch on at all. The color accuracy alone makes this monitor intriguing, but it would be nice to see someone come at it from the lens of video editing and graphic design. Especially because these panels are being used in high end color grading displays from Flanders Scientific. Also, when the time comes with comparisons (and even in individual reviews it would be nice to know), what is the warranty? That's a huge part of an investment.

Burn in is still a concern. If you are using it for context creation with a lot of fixed elements on screen (like any software UI) you present the opportunity for these things to "burn in" to the screen. Most reviewers will tell you that OLED is impeccable technology, and one that is perfect for content consumption (Aka: using a panel for 4 hours or less a day) but prolonged usage is still a problem. Heat is your number one issue with oleds, which is often why most cannot get all that bright. If you intend to use it for content creation (or simply as just a normal monitor) use dells 3 year warranty or get geek squad from best buy. Remember - burn in is not an "if" but a "when". It's an inherent flaw to the label type that is unlikely to change soon. You can mitigate it somewhat by using dark modes on all your apps, setting a black screensaver to turn on after a minute or two, hiding your task bar and desktop icons, and either rotating your wallpapers or settings them to black. Oleds have to be babied. Gen 3 seems to be doing better than previous generations with this specific issue, but it's not perfect. Just be mindful of these things and you'll be okay for a couple of years.
@JGorg8
@JGorg8 6 ай бұрын
yeah that's exactly why I suggested including warranty info in the reviews. All of your concerns and suggestions are completely valid, but if this monitor is as good as it seems, if it lasts more than 3 years it's worth the price when you're using it to make money. Thanks for all your thoughts on this @@0hMyGandhi

@@Anakin_Ackerman yes but that 1300 nits is only on a 2% window max which imho is nothing but at least it’s an improvement over 2nd gen OLED hahah And that dual mode you are talking about is a big feature and I think they should do this on all premium monitors. It’s such a cool idea it even makes me wonder why it hasn’t been done before ages ago. Although I would have preferred it actually if it was 480hz 1440p (which is possible with the current tech) and then a 4K 240. That would be more appealing to me I think because more and more people are shifting towards 1440p as a ‘sweet spot’ and 4K as a higher end product anyway (yes 1080p has still the overall majority when you look at the steam stats for example but it is diminishing more and more). I'll probably return for HP Omen Transcend 32 though if they even drop a release date within this return window, if it turns out they are doing both DP 2.1 and HDMI 2.1 at max bandwidth. HP also has USB-C input and the KVM as well. I don't mind the subtle curve, but flat is great too, and these two are some of the only with Dolby Vision. How is the fringing compared to the ultrawides? One thing I really found annoying on the G8 was the fringing, which I would get used to, but if I used my laptop with a high res screen for any period I would immediately see it again. It was very slight though, but sometimes it could be annoying. Is the improvement good enough that you really have to look for it or is it still apparent? I saw the part about text clarity but you didn't compare to the old panels, those pictures aren't really useful if there is no comparison photo of another panel.

@@juanestrada3242 I mean last part is debatable 😅 but yeah that peace of mind should definitely be a factor when considering to purchase this monitor compared to an MSI or Gigabyte one which I think are only going to offer 2 Years at most or even none.

@@heyimwooftrue. If you have a credit card that has extended warranty that’ll be good to use it. @@juanestrada3242Or get screwed by getting a refurbished one with its own faults like a number of the dw/dwf users already. One reason for this is that there's no way they'll continue to make this panel 2+ years from now. This warranty sounds nice on paper, but it should be taken with some reservations.

Just discovered your channel - awesome reviews! I need to pickup 2 4K monitors for gaming and general use. From the reviews I'm leaning to the Dough Spectrum 1 (bang for buck); but - I can also do the Alienware... is it worth the extra cost?

I am having massive amounts of tearing using G-Sync and HDMI 2.1 on this monitor (both ports). I've tried different cables and a separate monitor to make sure it wasn't my GPU/Cables. DP 1.4 works great. I may RMA it unforunately.

It’s an issue with 4xxx series cards and HDMI on the monitor. DP works fine. Hopefully a driver/firmware update fixes it. I’m also surprised nobody mentions the issue with Dolby vision being stuck on as well.

It depends on how far you're seated from the monitor. 32" can use a slight curvature similar to the one on this monitor. But at least we have more options coming utilizing this same panel.
