Now these things are cool. 🙂 If they could only come down in price, I could see a future where these things, regular bicycles (including e-bikes) and public transit work together to make a more eco-friendly city one step at a time. Yes, the batteries are not very eco-friendly, but until something better comes along, this is a step in the right direction.

@billthompson8182

@jysmtl we have. These things cost nothing to make compared to a car. One guy could assemble a few of these in a day. All the tech is just reused from other industries. If they actually wanted people to buy these, they'd price them accordingly. These concepts are nothing but the winners of some pot of money for the green agenda in their various countries. It's likely they have already moved onto the next cash cow.

I seriously considered buying such a vehicle when looking for a way to travel without polluting. I had bought an electric bike previously but I feel really unsafe on a bike, and am in fear of punctures that could leave me stranded in the middle of nowhere. However these amazing bicycle cars are so expensive that a 'real' second hand car with all its comfort, safety and availability of parts is nearly half the price. I understand the people creating these appealing machines need money for research and production but I am just not rich enough to support them, to my great regret. Because I am elderly, I would go for the Friskar or the Veemo3 as they are completely enclosed, but I would have to try them first to check if I am able to handle them. A dream.

Need diy kits & parts availability. Small folding electric bikes?
@nct948
@nct948 Жыл бұрын
@@BoltRM I don't think this solution would work. Any vehicle on the road must meet certain safety criteria, so, unless you are a trained mechanic with suitable tool, the diy kit would not be acceptable. I can bash a nail in, for instance, but fitting a screw straight is already a challenge. Not everyone can do diy or has the space and gear and strength to do a proper job. For those on the know, it could be nice, possibly.

A group in my senior year capstone class worked on a vehicle similar to the pod car, Frikar but I don't remember what it was called. I'm sure I could dig it up. It was funded by some rich guy with a team pretty much just working out of his house. Not sure what he was expecting out of some students with the tools and machines available being more generalized. I remember he wanted it to be able to keep you dry while getting out and the top being all glass but a solid piece that moved. I think he really wanted something out of science fiction. Something that not only we as students would have trouble with but also high tech companies. I mean it was probably doable with enough time, money, tools, knowledge, and experience but I know when he explained to the class what he wanted to sell his project to a group everyone just kind of looked at each other.

Yeah, but the same argument can be used against top of the line classic road bikes... you can easily spend $8-15K on a custom road bike designed for competition and the trade off is low weight for reliability and no cargo capacity. Here we have companies trading off weight and cost for something that is highly usable under more situations... not just a sunny day going to go workout or race vehicle. I've converted a bunch of bikes and trikes to electric assist and since I did it myself, I could get ridiculous with the power and range levels. At 52v with a 20Ah battery, I can get about 35 miles range at about 30 mph. I've got multiple batteries so if I really want to head out for a long fast ride, I can still get home with power to spare... in comfort, with cargo.

Love these! I mean seriously, if people really wanted to save the planet, it's this. Having 1-5 ton electric cars isn't saving the planet, more like trying to destory it further.. But these! Are not wasteful, very practical, just needs to be actual products that people are enticed to get but Govt be Govt, they'll give you a carbon credit tax cut for buying a 5 ton wasteful electric truck instead of something like these & instead probably give you fines for lets just say not having it registered or riding it on the road/sidewalk depending where you live.

If the Podbike had space for two people it would be my option as I would like an ebike full closed and for two people. The same goes for Veemo, would like one for two people. But unfortunately the full closed version is discontinued. I would need something closed and secure as here where I live it can be stolen easily without any security. Never had a car or be attracted to the idea of have one, and with the high maintainance prize of them I feel less attracted. When I knew the existence of velomobiles I started to dream of the idea of having one, as I don't need more than what they can offer, and are more practical in some way.

Been watching this kind of concept vehicle for decades, and in the States, we're still exactly where we were 10-20 years ago in terms of price, availability, dealer support, and compatible roadways. Our mode of city planning creates too many obstacles to owning and using these things, which is why adoption is near zero. It's beyond disappointing.

So, Bio-Hybrid has gone bankrupt. To no surprise, I'm sorry to say. Most of these just look like more complicated e-bikes and take up more space than them too. Sure, it's cool to have a roof and a little more storage-space in the vehicle itself but these are comforts you can have on an e-bike for a lower price too. A normal leg-powered bicycle does the same for an even lower price, and it gives you more of a workout. While I'd love to see these replace cars entirely, as it stands now I feel it's more worthwhile to spend money on a better bicycle and some accessories. But I'm more than happy with my bike and a backpack, no car or battery needed here.
