Unpopular opinion: The Jack Jack gag got old after the first few times. I wouldn't want to see a 100 minute film on him. I'd rather them age him to like 4 years old so he starts to gain some control and he's not used solely for cheap laughs.

Bugjuice6193 you right I think I don’t understand why he needed 17 powers like that’s a little excessive, but giving him less powers and letting us see him a little bit older learning how to use them not just giving him new powers every two minutes for the sake of comedy

I'll admit that during my viewing I actually welcomed the Jack Jack scenes but only because I watched the movie with two little nephews, one of whom was struggling to stay awake and the other was obviously bored during all the Winston yada-yada which even I found dull as fuck. But in hindsight, yeah, they were just filler.

This is a 6/10 for me. It has a much worse villain than the original, the journey of all the characters from the first film is pretty much negated, the story is more predictable and the subplots are nothing compared to the original. Other than that, it was fun, well animated, had great action scenes and entertaining scenes with the characters sprinkled in there. I give the original a 10/10.

The villain is the weakest part of the movie, which is unfortunate because they almost had something great. Think about screenslaver’s speech. Think about the adult fear and comfort that comes with trusting media to raise our kids. What if bob was more lazy and was content to let the kids watch tv instead of actually helping them? Then you make the idea of the screenslaver stronger. While there was a general trust theme that connected the b storyline to Evelyn, I feel like there wasn’t enough to connect to the screenslaver by themselves There was some for both, but I think that’s a weakness. In the first movie, the exceptionalism theme is the only theme, so they have several conversations about it. If they had picked one theme, one vice for the screenslaver/Evelyn to go after, then the villain would seem more consistent and thus more powerful

You know i gotta respectfully disagree. I didnt find any of the slower parts about parenting and stuff to drag down the film. I thought it was an incredible movie and definitely hit the grand slam! I was very invested in the story and mr incredibles rollercoaster going from being the center of attention to the behind the scenes taking care of the kids. Some of the creative ways they used their powers was awesome, amazing fight scenes etc, my list of pros goes on and on with very few cons. 10/10 for me

I really liked Incredibles 2. There seems to be some points that Angry Joe missed. The reason that the incredibles family was out of sync was because they weren't on the island anymore. On the island, they could be supers because the anti super law couldn't affect them there. Back on the mainland, the parents try to act cautiously and stop their kids from getting involved directly, but the kids have the island as their example. That they can act like supers. This is the set up for the entire movie and why elastigirl had to go be a super. Now, to the kids, their parents are hypocrites. My only complaint was that I predicted the bad guy from the first five minutes she was on screen.

MadCashew Nutjob the movie had that convo too, seems like they didnt watch the movie. also there is no time skip to reflect previous events, we start the movie right where we left last time. mr incredible is still pumped to get back into action, but elastic is more cautiou since the gov is still not ok with supers

magotalica I also really liked those scenes where Bob did his best to be a good parent for his kids. Learning the new proper way to do math, making sure his kids had their books. He really flubs it though with Violet, but that was too funny. Truly, the teenage girl is a mysterious creature. My personal score for the movie is a 9/10 with a seal of approval.

Hmm I personally felt like the shift in tone didn't throw me off much though I do agree there was a shift. I do agree that Dash didn't really get as much quality screen time and that was a bit disappointing. I never really took Mr. Incredible personally as much of a very intellectual or deep character. I felt that they explored his interests in being free as a hero, and allowing his kids to have the same opportunities. His motivations didn't change much for me. I do agree though that it was a bit of a leap from the "we just discovered the power of family and fighting together and learned valuable lessons" narrative from the ending of the 1st wasn't really present. But also I consider that in their first big public outing as a family their actions were scrutinized, they got in trouble and the program was shut down so they also experienced a major setback.

i didnt feel the man was incompetent at all. In fact he succeeded in taking care of the kids. Jack jack was the one pushing him to the limit. elastigirl didnt have to deal with a baby with that many abilities. Other than that he tackled and succeded in helping the kids even though he struggled at first. Instead of it being a man incompetent i felt it got the trails and diffuclties of parenthood translated to the screen fairly accuratly.

ReadyjoE Me. I want to see things like that considering it’s what the incredibles is based around. The original film wouldn’t of been as good if it didn’t have the central them of family. It’s why it was praised. People loved that it was a movie about a family who just happened to have powers. This film does the same thing so I don’t know why people are complaining about it now

I liked how Mr. Incredible was jealous of Elastic Girl. It both subverted that "breadwinner" stereotype and gave him real emotions for himself. He has a lot of pride as Mr. Incredible, which we see in his burst with his kids about how he can't just be mediocre at housework, he has to be INCREDIBLE at it. His character is consistent, and I enjoyed that he was still supportive of his wife even if he was jealous that she got to go out superheroing.

Kyle Hahn I only figured it out after watching the movie but he was also agitated by the fact Elastigirl was cheered for for saving the train. When Mr. Incredible did it in the first movie he was sued and had his reputation destroyed in the news papers which then caused them to make supers illegal. Now he is sitting there listening to his wife telling him how great it was saving this train whilst he is seeing her get praise on tv but when he does it he gets the opposite. He also wanted to be happy for her though which is why he was gritting his teeth 😅

Ryan Parmelee Like Joe said, he didn't wait 14 years for the sequel. He didn't get that sense of nostalgia like most of us. Adults were in the movie theater because they were kids when they watched the first one. I don't get why he reviewed it when he didn't get what made The Incredibles such a big hit. He didn't even know what Jack Jack attack was. I give this movie a 9/10 because I was ready and excited for the sequel, but Joe wasn't.

Honestly, for me, this movie was a let down. I’m not saying it’s not a good movie, but I felt I enjoyed the scenes with the Dad and kids more than the ones with the Mom. In the first film, we saw Mr Incredible realize he needed his family and they worked better together. I thought this was what was going to happen with this movie and the Mom, but it didn’t. The family mechanic that I loved in the first movie felt off and disconnected. The insertions of quick political comments made me uncomfortable. Also, I thought at the end of the first movie the family figured out Jack Jack had powers? Idk, I’d agree that this movie was predictable and the villain a serious downgrade from Syndrome. Idk, 7/10 for me.

I agree. The family stuff could have been decent but it was all tacked on and ultimately meant nothing. All the tension between Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl at the beginning went nowhere and only served to fill time. Any dialogue between Elastigirl and the inventor sister went on way too long and, again, did nothing for the plot and wasn’t funny or interesting.

I agree!!!! Also, Jack Jack wasn't really like a baby baby with powers like the first movie. They kind of made him like a comic relief that was a bit unreasonably smart for this movie. It shows his development but I thought this movie was supposed to take place right after the first movie so the change in his development was a little bit weird. The film was very adult and the family dynamic was weird!!!! They undid a lot that seemed to be solved by the end of the movie.

I saw this movie when I was about 2 or 3 when this game out, didn’t really understand it (cause well I was a toddler obviously), and I recently rewatched the first movie and have also seen the sequel. Looking back, I missed so much adult themes that they had in both movies: adultery, shady corporate dealings, dysfunctional family drama, etc. We could have had a much darker film if the creators had more liberty to do whatever they wanted.

Good review Joe. Glad you guys weren't too lenient with it since it did definitely fall short in some places. That being said, I think you need to let the guy on the left talk more and give us some critical analysis(if he has any). So far all he says is "This didn't work" or "That scene didn't need to be there" which is fine but I'd like to hear why. Otherwise he just comes across as negative for the sake of it and it's kind of annoying.

In my opinion, it was good but it wasn't great. I thought the family dynamic was great but the villain was so generic. I forgot the name of the character of the villain other than the alias Screen Slaver. Syndrome had more depth and his demise was very dark. The new heroes are forgettable except Void; but even she was brief. Plus, what happen to Mirage and the Underminer; why did the character growth from the first movie disappear? It's a solid 7 out of 10; it's good but not great, especially a 14 year gap. We have multiple superhero movies with a lot of heart and elaborating story elements; they could have done a lot better. It's good, I enjoyed this movie but Brad Bird kinda dropped the ball with this installment. Pay Matinee price; it's good but go in with low expectations.

One of the saddest things about the movie was that Bird obviously didn't care much for it. The story sounds like he put it together and made it ready for dispatch within a month. But if he didn't want to do it then maybe he should have given up on it and asked Pixar to hire someone else, at least for the writing department? Truth be told, I can imagine the movie doing _much_ better if written by someone else.

I think that this movie was more slow and had more matured scenes was that it was for the people who waited 14 years for the Incredibles 2. The kid that had seen the first one was action packed because it was for kids and the second comes in for the kid that understand deep stories and can have a good time learning more about the story. I am 14 years old and had watched the first movie and fell in love with it. I had so much fun watchimg and watching the second which was more matured for those kids. Those are my thoughts.

What doesn't make sense to me is why everyone was so surprised that Jack Jack had powers when at the end of the first one he turns into that red monster thing.

Disagree a lot with your characterization of Mr Incredible, he was a super 60s dad in the first movie and you forget the film made a point to show how much he worked in a office while his wife worked really hard at raising the kids. I think it was completely natural for him to feel this way in the second movie to spend more time with his kids when they arn’t getting lasers shot at them.

But you forgot at the end of the first movie Mr Incredible had to learn something despite his mistakes. In this one Ms Incredible didn't have to learn a thing this was strictly an attack on strong men in general. Good film but some comments made felt... Off

Can we please not forget that the first Incredibles movie is about a man who is unsatisfied with his life and his family, has severe anger issues to the point he lashes out violently nearly killing his boss, and is an absentee father who can’t hold a normal job and then gets fired and lies to his wife about where he goes to meet up with another woman?

Patrick D Don't forget this man finds out that his biggest fan kills almost all his super friends he ever knew. Only to be tortured by him later and while he's tortured, his fan shoots down his wife and kids in an airplane while he hears her scream that she needs help. Good movie still lol

Hey Choose Me DAMN. Not to mention he gets to see his wife surpass him in both parenting and arguably as a superhero
