Hailing from New York, the dance-disco outfit Indeep scored a massive hit in 1983 with "Last Night a DJ Saved My Life." Led by songwriter Michael Cleveland, the band issued a full-length album under the same title shortly thereafter, but with the disco movement almost extinct by this time (and with the emergence of such styles as rap), Indeep subsequently had a tough time following up their smash and were delegated to "one-hit wonder" status. The act continued recording into the mid-'80s, and issued a few quickly forgotten albums: When Boys Talk, Buffalo Bill, and The Record Keeps Spinning. But the group's lone hit has become a dancefloor classic over the years, and 1991 saw the release of the 23-track best-of set, The Collection.

It is crazy seeing how many ppl still listen to this song! 😍 The lead singer is my mother! She can still blow and enjoys singing in her church choir and is an elementary school teacher. She doesn’t even realize how many ppl she still gets so much love!

I can relate to that too. I am almost 63 years old. This music was so popular because it was a mix of R&B/Funk/Disco it started in the late 70's and well into the 80's.

Meine jungen Eltern liebten Aretha Franklin the beatles undike& tina turner. Als ich 13 jahre alt war habe ich den Song zum ersten Mal gehört und war vom Rhythmus, dem Sprechgesang und der „klingel“ 😂 total begeistert. Es war was völlig neues. Ähnlich wie good times von der sugarhill band. Vorhin kam beim Autofahren beides bei Hr1 und ich war wieder 13❤❤❤❤

I'm 26. My papa was a dj and he has so many orginal records! I love this music. Getting a record player this year to play all the jams! This song has been stuck in my head for 2 days. Ik its him. I can feel it. I've been humming this song for and hour in my head. I burst out singing it outloud and I had to blast it! This is a classic !
