It's hard to say. Don't forget we don't see how these two acted together when they WEREN'T in front of the camera. Not saying they didn't get along, but there's been some actors who don't get along together. Tommy Lee Jones and Jim Carrey in Batman Forever. Apparently Tommy Lee Jones didn't like Jim Carrey.

@XXLSSBBW ~ Very true. Another I heard was Wesley Snipes and Ryan Reynolds. They were great together on 'Blade Trinity', but I heard they couldn't stand each other off screen. I don't know how true that is, but it's not unheard of.

@@XXLSSBBWTommy Lee Jones is notorious for not getting along with other actors, especially if those aren't classically trained. It's got something to do with the fact that many untrained actors are way better than his trained leather face. Jealousy of a craftsman for an artist - a tale as old as mankind.

@@philipbay1548 Most would've been in their mid-late 70s by then and my uncle who was a pilot is that and only just stopped from health issues, so a guy that old in good shape could handle it and he learned to fly from WW2 RNZAF pilots, so it's quite likely then. I've meet a few in their 80s/90s who were still fairly strong, so had they been there they'd have possibly flown if they kept it up. One called Les Munro who was born in 1919 was still working daily on his farm into his 80s, though I think he stopped flying and flew heavy bombers, though he did help inspire Star Wars. As you said race there, it'll have been pretty cool to see a 75 year old Māori warrior there and have him say he shot down several Nazis or something... it happened!

Something I got to thinking about in relation to the two volunteer pilots you mentioned: wouldn't it have been interesting if they were in an F-14 or a two seat F-18 for the final battle.

As corny as this movie was, had some great moments. The exchange between Pullman and Goldblum was so well done - the power of feeling deep, genuine respect for a person who holds a position worthy of respect - touching to think about that, given how void our Nation is of respectable people in national leadership positions.

With all the “hit one spot and the whole thing self-destructs” cliché s this one might make the most sense. By hitting the reactor launcher thing it caused the alien weapon to detonate inside the ship. Since that blast is capable of wiping out cities it makes sense that it would destroy a 15 mile ship

Like blocking a barrel of a weapon to simple it down correct?
@ivodozi
@ivodozi Жыл бұрын
It’s more like striking the magazine on a warship. So much power stored inside of it that a detonation there just as the weapon is firing is like throwing a stick of TNT into a pile of gunpowder.
@chrisc6857
@chrisc6857 11 ай бұрын
It's also not that hard to make the total destruction of the mothership make sense for the same reason. In fairness, even a nuke should not, on it's own, have completely annihilated something as massive as the mothership, but assuming the detonation set off something else inside the ship (perhaps a supply of antimatter that went off when the emp shut down magnetic containment) that can also add up quite well.

All of that built up energy channelled into their primary weapon would likely a backfire into its reactor/engine causing a catastrophic chain reaction. Like a warp core breach in Star Trek. The aliens put hubris into their shields to prevent that, likely they never expected any species to defeat them. But taking out the base at Area 51 was the last pocket of human resistance, so they went through with their attack anyway despite the risks.
