He came to India in 1498, 20th of March, on the west coast of India, Kozhikode (nowadays known as kalikat). He was welcomed by the local Hindu ruler Zamorin, in their traditional manner. He made 20 times more profit. He came to India for the second time in 1502. He came to India total 3 times.

True. I'm learning guitar and some people say you're learning western instruments and you don't care about Indian culture!! Even harmonium is not an Indian instrument and Rabindranath Tagore also banned harmonium. And now we can't even imagine Rabindra sangeet without harmonium, most of the song's instruments in movies have guitar sound in it.

As a European Id like to say that this is the effect of modernity, not exactly Westernisation. Although the two might seem similar, modernity is affecting every culture and people. In Europe our traidtional dance, culture and religion are being neglected because we have become obsessed with modern music, food etc. I hope India can find balance between tradition and modernity 🇪🇺❤🇮🇳

That's not modernity, that is simply stupidity that's why so many european leaving their stupid culture and embrace the culture of India, maintaining old culture it's a beautiful thing , western world has money nowdays that's why people of the eastern world go to west and settled over there and embrace their life style. Each ancient culture was beautiful still many countries protect their ancient culture and it seems very beautiful rather than following stupid western life styles but in case of India due to political conspiracy indian culture has slowly slowly declined.

@@AKNikki217 Idk but I’m from a well off family and studied in an English medium school….. dps to be precise. 1. We had regular eastern music and dance classes as juniors. 90% people chose guitar and piano later on in the extracurricular program 2. We had western dressing because we were an English medium school. Also you would notice that sarees or dhotis in general are a pretty vulnerable clothing and allow less movement of freedom. Almost any sport you play will be restricted if you wear these. 3. We had a full on 2nd language and 3rd language class till grade 10. We never really had any issues with speaking in our native language. I’m trilingual like the majority of indian people. 4. I’ve read scores of sst books and had my jolly time interacting with kids from different schools. No one said vasco da gama discovered india. It’s told nowhere. 5. About pop culture taking over, it’s simple really. Pop is more sellable and appeals more to the general audience. Now, what this woman is trying to do is, enforce her personal preferences over anyone because she feels its right. It’s not. Indian, American, Australia, jamaican, nigerian…. It rlly doesn’t matter when it comes to your preference. Pop is dirt cheap. You can actually listen to it for free with an internet connection. Next up, it has a more melodic sound. Because it’s a symphony of several instruments and harmonics together. It is naturally and even scientifically the better sound to the ears.

I do think you should give some value to your own culture, which was why I made that comment, but I completely agree that there's a reason for a preference of clothing and music from other areas - after all, there's the thing called freedom of choice. I appreciate that you replied this way, because I feel many people would go for trolling or insulting rather than take time to type up a detailed reply...

We respect our culture and we try to protect it as much as we can . Proud to be an ASSAMESE . There is a vast difference between classical arts and pop culture. . Pop culture is available on youtibe, TV, radio, it finds you vs classical I don't even know where it is performed . Pop culture is relatable, lyrics and video is self explanatory vs classical needs explanation about stories told, expressions, meaning of steps = not 1 performance does this. Yes, govt doesn't want us to learn this and instead wants us to learn choir but that outs burden on performers of classical . Pop culture is dearth cheap vs classical performances start at 3000rs for some far away seat which is as good as not going.

Next If you come to Calcutta there is one Classical musical concert every year at Dover Lane called “The Dover Lane Musical Conference” where thousands and ten thousand of people participate Next What about the functions of our Indian singers which are packed Next There is no harm to discover any other culture as long as we preserve our own. yep unfortunately. its not really racism like it is in the US or other western countries, but it's classism. supposedly, people who were more poor did manual labor and worked outside, tanning from the sun. the upperclassman and aristocrats wouldn't go outside as often, hence being paler. the idea of skin being indicative of your placement on a social hierarchy was passed down onto generations, to what it is today, even in the modern world. now it's adapted into more of a beauty standard, rather than your wealth, but it still roots to classism.

That's a lie... I have many friends in Asia and Asia Pacific. It's a very common and popular event that young unmarried women are attracted to darker skinned men. Lighter colored men are often overlooked. And ppl love more simple or hyping things first. Simple! Don't act like ppl are insanely crazy for classical music any where in the world and remember india doesn't only loved jb but also arijit singh. Starbucks got more recognition cuz it's a famous act happens worldwide and it's newly happened here... So the craze is understandable.... Where indian food we eat everyday in home in functions and even restaurants... why would anyone be sooo excited to taste the same? Man doesn't know how to wear dhotis cuz the generation has changed? Clothes style has changed? So from now stop using bus train plane maybe and travel by foot Or in palki... Would it make sense? Nerver knew anybody considers vasco "discovered" India cuz it's like everybody knows the fact he discovered the "route"! So young and also overreacting... Their children know how to read and write in their native language because you need to study minimum 2 languages unless your family migrated to other states. 4) Because Justin was really popular not only in India but the world so ofc you'll find this kinda response. Even though I live in an industrial town there is no Starbucks in 30 km region. 2.) I know jeans is comfortable.... So absorb or digest that garment from the west and east up their right to claim it their ....you'll need to do propaganda for this. Also in the west (and in india too) what do they wear in their homes ....pyjamas..... Actually pajama (fuckin westy accent 🤣🤣). 3.) Don't worry about the "Posh Aunties" ... capitalism is the right way to solve this problem..just add some money in speaking Sanskrit and respective regional languages.... I am sure the aunties have more obsession with sarkari Naukri than English.... 4.) 😅😅😅..... Justin is not the same anymore ...listen to his songs now. total crap ...and guess who are the cutie romeos nowdays?? .....the kpop idols ....do they sing in English. No but in Korean. It's not a problem create pop music in Sanskrit ....i speak this as a musician. I guess this answers your question....

Like Girls from Kashmir, Punjab, whole of North East, Himanchal Pradesh, Uttarakhand,U.P. khattris, Brahman, Sindhi Punjabis, Shia Muslims a lot of Gujratis and some Maratha community people, Haryanvis.Cmon we are also Indians. @@mileshul 1. That's your own preference, but starbucks will always be seen as superior by the general public coz of it's status. Just like how Versace and Gucci are superior brands than Levis or Flying Machine. 2. Didn't get what you said in the first half. Paijama is a urdu word and this garment originated in the Ottoman Empire in 13th century. So it's not 100% indian as you might think. 3. If learning sanskrit made a hefty amount, ofc people would learn it. But the reality is, it doesn't. So the only incentive to learn sanskrit is to read religious scriptures. And as we know people in india as mostly hindus (or muslims) by label, they don;t bother learning sanskrit. 4. Again, a personal preference. There are no popular songs in sanskrit, so the people aren't to be blamed for that. In India, there are far greater number of fans for punjabi and hindi singers.

The main conclusion is you can't force people what to like whether Indian or Western. Indian traditions have a lot of qualities and attractiveness, but, are not performed at the frequency that others are mainly due to productional constraints at the commercial level. Secondly, there is a lack of institutions which focuses in imparting skills in these art forms. Outside India, there are big institutions of cultural arts which produce thousands of skilled students in their respective domains. Thirdly, the audience will always respect skill, no matter what art form it is. Korean industry is not western but it has a large global audience mainly because of its well-developed institutions and an environmental support from guardians to pursue a career in arts. Here, we only focus on academic lines of careers and hence the skills required for a professional in a career of arts goes missing. Hence, instead of telling people to watch Indian cultural art forms, focusing on bringing up the skills in the performers will do the required job.

As a brown skinned girl I understand it very well. My sister is fairer than me. And each and every relative/ friends/ neighbour had said it in my face in a manner that I would feel more insecure. But the worst I felt when my Parents did the same too😢😢😢 and do you know when it started when my little sister just born and I was only 6. Yah! I didn't even know what is the meaning of preety exactly. Imagine a 6 years old girl knowing that she is not beutiful and can never be. Because of her skin colour. My childhood would have been much better if nobody had told me these lies. I used cry because of this for hours literally. But, now I know it's not me, but the people who were blind. Who are able find ugliness even in a child.

1. Starbucks has an international brand value. Not just in the west. They also have the highest quality beans roasted evenly which is not comparable to filter coffee in india cafés. Some might prefer that but youngsters were excited because they wanted to know what the hype was about. Also, India neither has very high disposable income for Starbucks, neither does it have a coffee culture. So Starbucks will only find a niche in tier 1 cities. Majority of Indians will stick to filter coffee or the classic - chai. 2. I agree with the indian clothes. Lungi is far more comfortable and we should bring back indian clothing. But indians don’t look down upon indian clothes. We still wear it on special occasions and parties. Jeans and t-shirt aren’t traditional western clothes. These are modern inventions. Which is why it’s the norm in most countries, not just india. 3. English has a mass appeal. It’s the most spoken language in the world. It’s also only one of the western languages. Your point would have made sense if more indians were learning Spanish, German, Italian, French than their native languages. Learning my native language doesn’t help me speak with as many people. At most I can converse with village elders. On the other hand, English is a unifying language to majority of the world. You would be making your video in your native language if English wasn’t an effective medium of mass communication. 4. You also comparing Justin Bieber who’s a pop singer with classical music. You need to realize that with time, the taste of people change. Why not compare him to indian pop singers like Arijit Singh? Or compare indian classical music to western classical music? Because it doesn’t fit the narrative? 5. Obsession with fair skin needs to stop. Completely agree with that point. 6. Vasco da gama point was also valid. I remember learning that and it made no sense.

@vidhanmatolia4734
@vidhanmatolia4734 9 ай бұрын
@@azeem5471 Colourism is thing in India mainly because of british colonization and our minds haven’t been decolonized yet. “Light skin = Beautiful and Dark Skin = Ugly.” This association needs to stop. It is often deeply ingrained upon us by the society and darker skinned people are often discriminated against because of this. India is a country of largely dark skinned people. Yet, how many dark skinned actresses can you name? Most of the actresses are light skinned. Even if they are dark skinned, heavy makeup, editing and lighting is applied to lighten their skin tone. Only 39% of the US population is black and yet their media has more dark skinned representation than in India. Even if you see depictions of Krishna in tv shows, you will see him being depicted as fair skinned even though his main defining characteristic in the Geeta is that he’s dark skinned. This is because Indians are so high on the fair skin superiority complex that they can’t even accept their gods being dark skinned. Fair and Lovely had been fueling this bias and profiting on the insecurities that they created for decades, selling literal bleach for skin. We even have slangs for dark skinned people like “Kalu” or “Kalia”. We still see dark skinned as inferior and discriminate against them.

Here around we had something called "Würstelstandel" so something existing in the past that was considered a place where you eat german/austrian fastfood, nowadays, you have everywhere "Dönner" Kebab fast food chains, the native fastfood does not even exist anymore, because it contains pork, England or rather Great Britain has an indian major and prime minister, so why should be indian native culture be something special, when company identity is replacing everywhere native tradition it is not just "darker skinned" culture exclusively a target and a majority of white places consider tanned skin color more beautiful, I guess it depends on what you do not have, which is the thing someone craves.

We all see those countries as developed nations with all wealth prosperity, so naturally we feel they are superior than us. We feel Their language, culture, way of life, their skin color must be superior than us. Thats why they are richer than us. Just take a look at the long waiting list of people who want to get a green card, every year lakhs and lakhs of people are leaving their citizenship. A recent survey showed that 95 pc of millennials wanted to study or work in these developed countries, if given a chance. Its a classic rich vs poor divide.
