This adventure takes us to one of the most popular places in Red River Gorge, the Indian Staircase.
Along this particular route you get to encounter multiple overlooks, arches and some of the best geology RRG has to offer.
Areas of this hike can be difficult/dangerous. You know your abilities and skill level so use your best judgement, always be safe instead of sorry. For anyone who decides to take on the Indian Staircase, I’d recommend wearing good footwear, I’d personally suggest something with vibram soles for superb traction.
Thanks for watching!

I’m a little over an hour away from RRG but I’m in the area regularly. Glad you enjoy the videos! Hopefully one day I can become a ‘KZfaqr’ lol I’m still a ways away from monetization tho, maybe one day! 🤞🏼

I still can't convince the kids to do the staircase! Not sure why 🤣. The campsite above the Ohm dome is one if my favorites. That and adena arch arch good for some more private sunrise viewing.

I know a lot of adults that can’t/won’t do the staircase 😅 That is a nice looking campsite, it gets used a lot. The Adena Overlook is one of my favorites in the gorge.

There are “moki steps” carved into a place called Indian Staircase just outside of the Red River Gorge geological area in SE Kentucky. They were carved into the rock by the native Adina peoples more than one thousand years ago.

That’s the one in the video! There’s also an arch across the valley from it called Adena Arch.

Plan on doing a video to Red Byrd when the cold months get here. The best/easiest route is from Calaboose Ridge. I think the unofficial trailhead shows up on Google. A lot of the hike is following old road beds but be prepared for lots of downfall. Have a good map or gps, you follow the ridge all the way out until you’re close to the arch, then you head downhill to it. There’s a user trail, not sure how worn it is, I’ve not been there in about a year.

@@ExploringWithDRob thank you very much that will help me a lot to find it, i been going to the gorge for years now, still a lot of arches ain't seen yet that I'd love to see, wanna see the Indian arch and adenas arch but my wife has ankle issues and she can't do the Indian staircase, can i ask if there's another way to Indian arch without going up Indian staircase so she can see it, and do you have any idea if they've decommissioned the cloud splitter yet really wanted to see that before they did, my wife refuses that one 🤣🤣🤣 but that one's gonna be a treat to myself if they didn't decommissioned it yet, it really makes me sad that some people can't go and see this magnificent place without causing destruction, and or leaving graffiti on these rocks, like you said in you're video they are an eyesore and takes the essence of the naturallity out of what one should see, and leaving trash they're the reasons these amazing places are getting closed, thank you a lot for the reply and the help on directions on the red Byrd, I've watched all you videos and I have them saved on playlists, they've been more helpful finding these spots than any other resources because you take time to point out every detail, things to look for to guide ones adventure, and looking forward to another video, have a good one I'll speak to you if i ever run into ya on one of the trails,🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

To my knowledge, CloudSplitter is still accessible, heavily trafficked trail up to it. To get to Indian Arch, start at Bison Way trailhead. Take it til it intersects with the Sheltowee Trace. At that intersection you’ll see a sign that points right to corner ridge and left to the Red River. Make a left and follow the Sheltowee towards the Red River. Indian Arch is right along the trail roughly 1.5 miles from that intersection. To get to Adena Arch, follow the Sheltowee Trace past Indian Arch to the top of the hill. The Sheltowee will continue to the right. But to get to Adena Arch, you’ll see a heavily trafficked user trail to the left. Follow that trail out to Adena Arch. Afterwards, follow that trail back out to the Sheltowee and then just follow the trail out the same way you came in, make an out and back trip out of it. Hope that helped. And appreciate you watching/enjoying the videos, thanks for watching!

Is Indian Staircase too steep to take a dog up? 🦮
@ExploringWithDRob
@ExploringWithDRob 4 ай бұрын
There’s one spot where you’d have to help it up a spot about chest high. I know a few people who have taken their dogs up the staircase tho, so it is manageable.
