English is a secondary native language for middle-class & rich kids from urban areas in India because all of us go to English-medium, mostly private schools. The language of instruction for all of our subjects, physics, biology, math, history, etc., is English, except for the specific language subject like Hindi. I was taught the English alphabet way before I learned how to write any Hindi or Gujarati (my state language). I am much slower at writing/reading Hindi compared to English, and far more comfortable with the Roman alphabet over Devnagari Script. Our accents just sound weird/different to you guys because we were mostly taught a mother tongue (Hindi, Tamil, Bengali, etc.) before we went to school, and converse majorly in it with our friends & family. But most urban kids like me are equally fluent in at least 2 or more languages including English.

If Indians lack entrepreneurship, how come so many Silicon Valley start-ups were founded or co-founded by Indians. I think, the problem is not with Indians but with the present system in India. Actually, we have many communities in India like Gujarati’s, Marwadis etc where running business is part of their culture or DNA. Given a proper political environment, Indians can be as good as Americans etc in creating and running business.

Try spoken English for Engineers and Scientists, it is on sale on Amazon.in Sanskriti, no one is saying you have to drop school. The teachers and teaching should change from the current sad state and encourage students to think, understand, innovate and create. If we all just follow the teachers and the textbooks, no new knowledge would be discovered by the smart kids who may have the potential to challenge the existing views and find the true knowledge. Do you know that top physicists admit that we know less than 5% of the universe? (read about dark matter and dark energy).

The obscene amount of people roaming in the streets and the overall dirtiness of nearly everything made me want to leave ASAP. I did enjoy the fact that $1 worth of rupees there felt like $5 here. If you truly believe it's a great nation, I dare you to live there for the rest of your life. Never immigrate to another country for the rest of your life. Also, way to hold a few instances of someone shooting people in public against this country of 320+ million people. It has its disadvantages, but it's still beats living in India. Amazing !!! Am from Oman (an arab) ... Lots of indians are working here they are smart hard working and they surely know how to run a business ... But most of us hate them because most of them are mean, dishonest and corrupted ... Some of them are great people but unfortunately can rarely be found in here ... I don't really blame them because Indian gov are corrupted and i believe when india well developed it will a great country ... Thanks to all honest and hardworking indians who help my country.

This is unbelievable on all levels. Her scores to begin with. Congrats to her. And the assumption or inevitable move out of India, and the anchors questions about it. As if India is some medieval country and as if it is just hopeless to think of living and working in India. It is this kind of supplicant nature that will never let us be of any relevance in the world. The pecking order of White Europe on top and dark Indians on bottom nether rungs is working so well for the Europeans. Is there any end to this insanity. Even a utterly worthless jack becomes a manager to IITians in the US. It just hurts looking at the way things are.

It seems like u r completely missing the point of a good education. It is not about getting to the 'top' or earning a lot of money... thinking about the bettterment of the world in this scenario should lead you to the fact that a good education should train your mind to concentrate intensely enough to be able to get something truly original from your mind into the real world. Thats the actual collective good.

For some crazy people floating around here (like dontreplytothis). First of all mind your own business. Nobody asked u to have a look over what we Indians are doing. Second don't over exaggerate, 99% people aren't starving, but around 25-26 % . BTW Asians are not stupid as you think (except for some crazy Pakistanis). Have a look (I don't know if ur reading this, this is for some people like him) at the no of Indians, Chinese, Malasians, Indonesians and Thai students winning gold medals in major Olympiads. How many Aussies or US or English students have done that ? 40 % of Doctors, and Scientists at NASA are Indians. So, what makes you so arrogant ? Most of US citizens are Indian migrants. It is our Govt. which makes us look stupid. Not the people. Shame on you !

I don't know who inspired this, but not all people are like this. I'm an American and when I saw this video I was genuinely inspired by this girl. She's just a little older than me when this video was made and it inspires me to work harder to be the best that I can be. Also, most Americans (at least among the younger generations) think Asians are very smart. We have running jokes that any Asian will get top scores without even trying. Sorry for the very loud stupidity coming from the people who just make their own countries look bad.

And since the discussion is about SAT exam and sciences, I mentioned Physics, Chemistry and Economic science. I generally dont care about Nobels in Literature and Peace.
