Thanks, Vanessa! Would you submit both versions of your final edit to the client? I always get, "I like what you did here, but can you change....." in my experience, It always leads to multiple edits and time wasted.

I love the way you notice the floor is being lighted too much. And the simple feathering of the soft box and then adjusting in post with the gradient. Can you tell me what that cart/stroller looking thing is in the video?

I prefer the edited darker one, too. It's interesting, or maybe not, many photographers seem to look down on the 24-105mm f4 and insist that you need the 24-70mm f2.8 for its faster aperture, I've not currently got either, but think the longer reach may be more useful (and quite a price difference) than the extra stop, particularly with the high ISO capabilities of more recent camera models, it seems that if you can live without the shallower DoF, maybe the f4 lens is more useful, I know this is maybe a bit of a chalk and cheese question, but what do you think? Sure, we'd all like to always shoot primes, but life isn't always that simple!
@VanessaJoy
@VanessaJoy 3 жыл бұрын
Depends on style really. This photo I knew I wanted more DoF but for a lot of what I do I want to be at f/2 for style reasons. I find the aperture to be the greatest style choice more than anything else
@Simon-SBL

I think so too, or at least out to focus ability, I sometimes use a Lensbaby, probably partly for the same reason you dangle things in front of the lens and because I'm a glutton for punishment! haha

I've noticed this on other videos too. Does the profoto actually record the TTL settings after shot on the display? For example, you initially shoot in TTL, and I'm assuming the display records the value 1/32. The reasons why I ask, is that most of the systems I've used in TTL still just display "TTL" after firing and don't show the value.
@VanessaJoy
@VanessaJoy 3 жыл бұрын
It doesn’t show the value on the transmitter, but it does on the flash unit and then when you switch to manual it holds that value

Question.... how important is it to get pin sharp on the subject, I always get nervous as to how sharp I'm going to get the image whether just the bride on her own and stage shots with family. I have a habit of zooming right in on their faces on the computer later and find that some images are just not pin sharp, slightly soft, but decent looking without zooming. How critical is this, because I'm having trouble understanding what is acceptable and what is not in wedding photography when it comes to being in different locations in a hall full of people and the exposure keeps changing. Single shots when taking a model out I can understand getting that sharpness as there's plenty of time to adjust & take the shot, but at the moment its confusing to know what should be correct. There's no videos highlighting this on KZfaq I'm afraid. If anybody can help

Maybe you need faster shutter speed, maybe closed aperture instead of shooting let’s say f1.8 you can shoot f5.6 or up it brings out more detail and last but not least maybe you need to calibrate your lenses

Interesting video. You used a term I haven't heard before when referring to the two Profoto lights at either side of the ballroom. I believe you called them intelligent lights. Is that correct? Can you please link to them. I would liketo read about them.
@VanessaJoy
@VanessaJoy 3 жыл бұрын
intelligent lights are the lights that are installed in the ceiling of the ballroom that are controlled by the venue, and "intelligently" can move around to the music. :-)

@@VanessaJoy the post edit almost feels like cheating as the title suggests that we create the mood with flash and other lightning 🌩. Great edit in the end if thats what you were paid for but it takes the viewer away from the title.
@VanessaJoy
@VanessaJoy 3 жыл бұрын
@@shivanksolaris no the title says “indoor flash photography” and you saw 15+ indoor flash photography photos and two different setups all to my client’s specifications and then an alternate option as well. If you somehow contribute indoor flash ᴾʰᵒᵗᵒᵍʳᵃᵖʰʸ with only “dark mood” vs “light mood” outcomes, then that’s on you.

@@VanessaJoy Thanks for replying to a critic ( this must be hard ). I like to keep things constructive. So, if you could have edited a simple flash Portrait and then followed up with the second edit to flex your editing muscles :), it would have made more sense to the viewer who is in to learn the flash photography in a large room and not be surprised. But that was my honest reaction. P>S> I like the direction and explanation of the 15+ and if they were the final edits delivered then it makes much sense.
