It's hard to complain about the cost of an Industry 9 wheel set after seeing the care and detail and technology that goes into their products. Add in the fact that they are a US based manufacture and have such an integrated relationship with one of the best bike communities in the country, again, it's hard to cast shade. Great video Jeff . . . you have an open invite to come to Boise in 2023 to check out our various bike parks and the Ridge to Rivers Trail System.

Thanks for watching, Sam! The I9 thing is really, really cool, and the product alone is absolutely kick ass. Way cool to see how they've grown, and they have done a lot to give back, too. I'd love to ride Boise! I stopped by in April last year driving home from AZ and it was snowing hard in Boise, so I had dinner with Kyle and April and carried on driving back to WA. Will try again!

One of the awesome perks of the job Jeff! That's a great trip and facility. I have a soft spot for engineering and overcoming mechanical obstacles. Building wheels has been one thing I've left to the pros. I will true them up, but never built. Gotta do at least one. Straight pull look easier than j hook, and Berd spokes are a no way Dude! I9 are great, but would like them to build a silent hub, they're quite loud.

I've been building wheels since 1982...I was impressed when I got to see QBP'S wheel building room upstairs at a Winterbike. This ups the standard. It'd be interesting to see a competitive experiment between a top notch hand builder and this machine. Sort of a John Henry dual. I can see this equipmentusing top quality tools, componentsand fixtures not to mention computers to dial it in...really hard to best...the human elementid like to believe is important. How long till computers/robots go 100% including shipping it to your door by drone and taking orders, payments, raw material receiving, CNC setup, etc...we'll all be out of work. But then, I'm retired now anyway. Someday we'll all watch robots race too.

@JeffKendallWeed Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the request on the JKW edition, we've been chatting about that! Would certainly make it easy for folks to quickly narrow down the selection process to a good, solid, all around enduro wheelset. Wheel glamour shots would have been so dope! The wheel build happened on the last of our 6 days in NC, and we were absolutely whooped. We had to throw them in the box and catch our flight home, so oooops! No glam glam shots! These are the rainbow wheels I've juggled among the Rise/Instinct ebikes, the Transition Spire, and another bike you'll see on the channel next month.

Love the rainbow wheelset. As someone who's currently playing with a spoke with about 10 different color alloy nipples as a fidget toy, and someone who has an old red King R45 cutout hub to fiddle with, I totally appreciate the desire for not only quality, but also vibrant colors. That said... Wait, you go to ALL the trouble of a custom wheelset with awesome rainbow spokes and you choose SILVER hubs???? I'm sorry, but that's silly! You could have mix & matched hub colors to really give the wheeset pop! They'd be "extra" custom then! Or choose the same color that would complement the bike. But silver? Even just black would be better to highlight the spoke colors. Sorry, but silver is SO stock. Been riding silver hubs since the 70's, so I'd never choose that "color" for a custom wheelset. Swing and a miss if you ask me!
@JeffKendallWeed
@JeffKendallWeed Жыл бұрын
95% of mountain bikes the last 10 years have had black hubs. I'm over boring black. Shiny silver is classy and looks good on all the different bikes I mount these to- these wheels have already been on about 6 different bikes.

The spokes thread into the hub?? I've never seen that. Straight pull, yes, but not like that. Do other brands do that?
@JeffKendallWeed
@JeffKendallWeed Жыл бұрын
Yes, other brands have done this sort of thing in the past. It's a slightly simpler system, as there are no nipples to break or round off.

Are those weareone rims?
@JeffKendallWeed
@JeffKendallWeed Жыл бұрын
YES! The I9 nomenclature is the Enduro 315c, and it uses a rim that's based on the We Are One Union rim. The rims are indeed produced by WR1.

I'm from Germany, and here I9 is kind of a niche brand. It's more about DT or Newmen. However, I love my I9 wheels 😄 Btw: I'm pretty sure that the anodizing bath should have the correct pH value not be in the right place (which the subtitles states) 😅
@JeffKendallWeed
@JeffKendallWeed Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the note! DT makes GREAT stuff, though I've never seen Newmen product in real life. I used the auto subtitle option in Premiere Pro, and it got things close enough that I left them. This video took so much editing resources that I just wanted to get it public/published, and couldnt afford to get it perfect.

@Jeff Kendall-Weed One can definitely see that a lot of effort went into this video. I really enjoyed it and I hope to see more factory tours in future videos 🙂

Sick wheelset man, but I have to say something. Centrifugal force is not real it is centripetal force, centrifugal force is a way for engineers to be lazy. I had to say this as my physics tutor always tells the class this, and I’m not mocking engineers as he was an engineer and I am at university to be one 😂😂

Hahaha when I've done it on my own 5-6 times, the wheels fell apart soooo much faster than true pro built wheels, so it's not necessarily cheaper!

Oh really? Try hitting up the I9 guys directly with any issues, their info is here: industrynine.com/warranty. I did notice they don't cover cosmetics due to aging, but it's worth asking and emailing them a photo just to see!

Electrical tape for rim tape? Is that a thing or do me eyes deceive me?!
@JeffKendallWeed
@JeffKendallWeed Жыл бұрын
Electrical tape doesn’t hold up, this is a non-stretch tape with significantly better adhesion. Similar to Stans tape but a little burlier. About 18 months ago I9 switched over to this newer, better tape.
@kirecoma
@kirecoma Жыл бұрын
It looked like the tape wasn’t as wide as the rim and he only applied it in the center over the spoke holes. Is that correct or was it just the camera angle?

LOL when you're putting out hundreds of wheels a day, this sort of machine is a great way to keep accuracy high. I'm sure they could spend a few million and build a fully mechanized version, but it seems with their experience, they've found a great solution.
