I was on day 4 and thought it was a bad external hemorrhoid. Went to the e.r. and they drained it. If they offer pain management before numbing definitely take the doctors offer. I took 2 tylenol and said I'd be fine. I was wayyyy wrong. Today is 4 days after the procedure and I have no complaints. Wearing a "manpon" is a bit bothersome but completely tolerable after what I just went through. If you're here looking for information about the procedure I can tell you it's not nearly has bad as having the abscess. Hope everyone has a swift easy recovery! Thanks for the info!

I thought I had external hemorrhoid as it was extremely painful. I felt very embarrassing to seek medical treatment from doctor or go to ER. But luckily it was indeed anal abscess as it did bursted and just got slightly bleeding then later with brown fluids coming out. I instantly felt release of pain. After watching several KZfaq videos including actual external hemorrhoid removal… where I realized mine wasn’t hemorrhoid but indeed abscess… I have learned something I never thought of in my life.

@@krislokki7355 I am thinking now I had exactly the same thing - thought it was a hemmorhoid, treated it as such with sitz baths, anusol, witch hazel etc... and the pain! On day 2 it just burst suddenly and the relief was immediate and magical! Repeated the same protocols for ongoing treatment (minus anusol) and so far so good. Tiny bit tender but so, so much better and the blood and pus is minimal at the moment. Fingers crossed.

This is so good, you have a calming way of explaining such a terrifying (because: pain) condition! I was misdiagnosed with "just hemorrhoids" for roughly 3 years, misdiagnosed with a fissure for 6 months, went through a sphincterotomy right next to my abscess and given no pain meds 6 weeks ago! I just figured out I have an abscess, I kept asking and asking why my symptoms deviated from classic fissure symptoms, he found no fissure. He said my muscle was tight so that's why he still did it. I ended up in the ER twice from so much pain my BP was heart attack level. I haven't seen that barbarian since then, hopefully I never will. I'm wondering if I should switch from a colorectal surgeon to a proctologist? I love my GI doctor, he will order my MRI for this.

My GI ordered my MRI and I have to have it on Easter or wait 3 more weeks, so Easter it is! I am scared it's a cancer/abscess, I am just feeling so terrible and again, it's not following the typical symptoms of an abscess. It's draining out my anus and I have no fever but lots and lots of fatigue and nausea.

Hello doc I have a concern regarding to a staph infection. I already finished my medication and antibiotics but I can still feel a lump or a swell underneath my skin (perenial area). The large abscess was already drained but I can still touch something underneath and up to this day the area or hole where it burst out still releases a pus like liquid. My doctor already pulled a tissue from inside but it doesn’t still close. I think it can already be considered as a chronic wound? Should I wait for the 8 week period? I’m already at the 3rd to 4th week.

Im no longer in pain and feel no bumps or pressure. Bowel movements are good and stool looks healthy. I feel fine so is it even worth continuing with surgery? Why risk it when my body has begun healing naturally. Been on antibiotics for 2 weeks and will continue.

I had this happen to me 20 years ago. I had it drained and it came back again a few years later and drained on it's own. It came back again and I had to have it drained again. It came back the 4th time and drained on it's own and continued to drain for a very long time and remained "open" but I did not have the pain just a small amount of discharge. Then the pain came back all of a sudden and was worse than it had been the last 4 times and when I went in it had become a fistula that needed a fistulotomy and now thank goodness I have been pain and draining free for several years but the fistulotomy did leave me with a looser sphincter. I am sure there is some medical term for it but basically I still have control over bowel movements and it became stronger with time and butt kegels but I can say I have had some unfortunate windbreaking that was beyond my control so just be aware if you do not treat it the possibility of it coming back is great and developing a fistula and even incontinence is in the cards so I would follow up with a doctor to have it checked for sure, just my two cents.
