INFINITI Q50/Q60 Transfer case fluid service DIY

Another DIY for you guys and it is our transfer case fluid service. As usual, the products used in the video is linked below for your convenience. As an FIY, these cars come with Nissan Matic-J which is a non synthetic fluid and we're replacing it with Nissan Matic-S, which is synthetic. Keep in mind the transfer case fluid service is suggested every 30k miles.

if you do get fluid on the floor, kitty litter dries it up good. If it's deep in, take a 2.x4 and scrub the litter into the spot. I learned this 40 years ago working at a gas station. I'd Tide the black top too. Looked good when I was done.

THANKS again for a good FYI. I need to do this in the spring. (Hint: use an old oil bottle so you can use your pump 😉) lol. A tad faster. Was there a magnet on the drain plug? I wonder If they are the same thread as the oil plug?? That way a Z1 magnetic drain plug would be a good idea. My rear ZI LSD diff I used Motul full synthetic gear oil. I may use that or the Nissan S like you did for my transfer case. I'll do that in 1K when I do my oil. Again, thanks!

what size socket did you use? im going to be doing both from and rear differential and transfer case fluids as im at 35K on my QX50. My understanding is that front differential needs 80W90 like pennzoil and rear takes 75W90. Are the plugs all same size? thanks

The "S" in Matic S does not stand for synthetic. Just an updated fluid over the years.

I have seen many of your videos and I definitely appreciate the information you put out for all of us to view. However, after watching this particular video, I wanted to extend the recommendation to never use your torque wrench for removing bolts. Using your torque wrench as a ratchet or breaker bar is the fastest way to get it out of calibration. I realize that you and many others watching this video are not professional mechanics, so I wanted to extend an extra bit of knowledge.

For RWD is this only needed in the rear in assuming. I noticed I have a similar section for the front but I am not RWD. Do I need to do this in the front anywhere for RWD?

You didn't say anything about the amount of fluid . Do you pump in the exact amout of fluid that came out or just until the fill plug starts leaking ?

At how many miles do you recommend changing this oil? I am at 30k and was thinking it was about time. What do you think about using (Motul Gear 300 75W90 Synthetic Transmission and Differential Fluid) ?

30k for diff and it takes 75w90. Motul gear 300 is what I used in my rear diff

because of you i've change my differential fluids and transfer case and saved quite a bit doing it on my own. i'm just curious as i don't see a video from u or really any other Q owners on changing the transmission fluid. i have a 2014 Q50S with 131k. ANY insight on changing the transmission fluid would be helpful. TYIA and keep on making your videos.

At 131k if your trans has never been serviced Infiniti won’t even flush it. They will only do drain and refill. I have 24k miles my trans doesn’t need to be serviced anytime soon so I’m not going to bother making a video for it.

you dont really need to. but good practice if you love your car is to change it 60-70k Miles

At 20k miles I asked at the dealer to use a synthetic ATF. They told me only the matic-j was compatible with my 2016 q50. Pretty sure our cars have the same transfer case. Let me know how it works out.

The transfer case ? Only takes 1.2L

You say the transfer fluid should be changed every 30,000 miles. Actually, Infiniti says every 20,000 mi - but only if carrying a car-top carrier or driving on rough or muddy roads. You said torque is 25 ft-lb, actually it is 26 ft-lb. You carefully spelled out the 10mm and 14mm bolts needed to remove the shield but never mentioned the bolt size on the actual plugs! I don't think Nissan Matic-S is synthetic, is it?
