Hey Techies!! Today I will be working as a infusion technician super excited! Also I did a mini tour of our chemo room and how to calculate some doses. I’m currently going to vocational school study to become a pharmacy technician. Just yesterday they mentioned all these certifications we can get like IV, compounding, chemotherapy, etc. which certifications do you recommend getting first for the most bang for your buck return?

Hi I just have a quick question. The medication is diluted in NaCl, how do you know which other diluents can be used other than NaCl? Is there a guide somewhere? Thanks

Hey hey!! There’s a website pharmacist and techs use to look up what can and cannot be dilated with a medication; also how to dilute it if you happen to not have the medication insert. But I rarely have to look it up, the pharmacist do and prints the label.

How is the pay for infusion/iv pharm techs? I’ve heard it was pretty decent. I used to work at Walgreens where I received my Pharm license. I hated it and quit. I applied for a pharmacy tech position at the hospital I currently work with and the manager told me about all of the different specialities.

Hey hey! IV technicians pay are pretty decent. Even more if you are certified in sterile compounding.

Hey hey! There isn’t any medication in the yellow bins, only supplies and the spike is used to help safely transfer drug.

Hii!! That’s exciting 😀wishing you bathe best of luck! So rotate positions in the pharmacy I work at, either I’m a window tech, IV tech, chemo tech or Pyxis, receiving tech. We do everything that’s how I was able to do chemotherapy! 😀😁

Hey hey, it depends some hospitals no but I’m pretty sure if the pharmacy is short staffed the pharmacist jumps in to help!

How dangerous do you feel mixing chemotherapy is?

Not at all dangerous, my opinion. You wear the PPE. The vertical hood air is blown from the top of the hood straight down so the hazardous chemicals don’t blow towards you. Also while making chemotherapy you have a vial adapter and syringe adapter it’s completely easy, you really can’t have any spills with it😄

Hey , can you explain the total volume part. Why did you only take out 50mls and not 250 ml like on the label said ?.

Hey hey! I think you’re referring to my second medication calculating Carboplatin. So my label was 500mg per 50mls. I’m using a NaCl 250 ml bag. My label is stating add 50 mls to my bag and also stating total volume of the bag needs to stay as 250 mls. So I had to take 250 mls from out of my NaCl bag = 200 mls. Then add my drug +50mls and that got me back to 250mls I hope I explained it better if not I can write it out 😀I know it’s better to see the steps written rather than explained so just let me know.

@@ItsDricaaa I think on one of your statements you are confusing the person, "so I had to take 250 mL from out of my NaCl bag" instead of saying you had to take out 50 mL to add the 50ml of the med you want to dilute into the NaCl bag to bring back up to its original max of 250 mL.
