I don't have a fixed layout but I have Kato Unitrack so it's easy to set up a temporary layout that operates smoothly.

Temporary or not, I like the modularity of the Unitrack. I've got a few more bits to figure out, then I'll be glueing down the main layout. This little puzzle is just hot melt glued to the cork bed.
