Inishbofin lies off Magheraroarty on the North West Coast of Donegal. In July I visited with The Bluestack Ramblers Walking Club and was amazed by the beauty of the island and the variety of landscapes in such a small area of land.
There is a better known Inishbofin in the Aran Islands and both mean Island of The White Cow in Irish.
This short video will give you a flavour of island and some of the sights I enjoyed on the day.

Nice one Niall. 👍, didn't realise there are two Inishbofins . The sea always looks so blue and clear on the west coast. 👍👍

The school was the highlight I think. Very sad but I couldn't help but think of all the kids that sat in that room, looking out the window, across the bay to Errigal and daydreaming of being up there instead 😊

Agree with Gary, shame about a National treasure I would have thought, how many hundreds of children would have been educated over the decades at that school and gone on to forge their place in the World. Nice footage. ATB Colin

Thanks Miriam, a trip I probably wouldn't have made if it wasn't for the walking club. Could have stayed over there for a couple of days quite easily 😊

Niall, loved the views across the water to some familiar sights👍 Coastal walking and island walking is very cool, especially when the wild flowers are out👍 Looks like plenty of scope for some wild camping along those never ending beaches😊 A good days hiking👣

Looked like a great day out Niall, that beach looked amazing. Makes me wish I lived more west than east! I'm sure the walls of that school could tell some stories, shame to see it neglected. Thanks for sharing! 🙂

That beach was awesome, it was like something straight out of the Caribbean 🌴🏖️🌊 The school is a sad reflection of the declining population on the island. 122 in 1841, 3 in 1991, recovered to 11 in 2011. According to a resident there's less than 10 there now and he's moving soon as he's approaching 80 and concerned about taking ill on the island and not being able to reach medical care in time 😔

Loved this! I've only ever dived around Bofin on a day trip from ScubadiveWest. Now I want to pay a visit. What's the story with wild camping?

I don't think you would have a problem if you pitched late, left early and were sensible. Not many on the island. Only thing is the ground is very rocky on one side of the island and you could have problems getting pegs in.
