Thank you for the video, it was very informative and helpful. I wished y'all would have shown a nice, slow close-up of the finished products at the varying stages. I have seen Klay's work before and it is truly artful but would enjoy seeing it and comparing it to this other top-hand's work. Thanks again

This is a weld test I'm currently trying to pass. We call it a Class A weld test, it used to be called the BCP 100. In Canada, we HAVE to weave our cap, we are not allowed to use stringers.
@top6ear Жыл бұрын
We have to weave... Humm. Hate weaving. Just did my G1-G4
@K_M_9_9 Жыл бұрын
In Alberta you can either weave or run stringers for your cap but you’re not a lot both. One or the other. And here it’s called grade B weld test

I did this test in Calgary back in 2003 (passed), and again in Saskatchewan years later (failed first time, got it second). It's not a test to be taken lightly but put it in the hours of practice and you'll nail it.

Very good video. Thnx. On a three bead cap, is it allowed to do the two outer beads first and use the third bead to fill the valley between them ? I've seen it done that way and to me it looks better, when done that way.
@klaychesham17914 жыл бұрын
gord johnson yes that is very common high grade materials that are more susceptible to the hardening affects of the welding process so the third run will be done in the middle to create a tempering effect on previous passes and not having the last pass on base metal.
@jackmasse82274 жыл бұрын
Also run the risk of inclusions and lack of fusion by running the valley. We just stack em

Just in case anyone in the US is watching and blowing this off, we call it a flip flop test. And I just took one to get on with ExxonMobil. So listen and watch, even though I passed I wished I would’ve been able to see this instead of walking into a blind test.

depending on the inspector weaving is okay on the fill and cap for CWB 3G
@vangoghsseveredear3 жыл бұрын
Yep depends on the inspector. Ive weaved every cap I've ever done with 3g with no issues, but I hear its becoming a bigger problem lately. Stupid, in my opinion. Millions of welds done with weaves have ended up just fine. But, learn and adapt I suppose

Can you do a 6G test accordance with ASME sec9 with bend test? Thanks for the video
@patrickramsey43384 жыл бұрын
It's all based on Sec 9. The big difference is that this is a much more practical test because it uses common welding positions. I think that this is actually a much better evaluation than a 6G.

Couple things. Cap has to be a weave. And the 2g 7018 portion has to be 1/8 rod.
@darcymcnabb92594 жыл бұрын
In the real world you will almost never do a 6g weld , 5g is much harder to do . The 2g and 5 g welds are what you will fine. 99.99% of the time .

With the exception of the 2G portion the rod angle used for the 7018 fill/cap pass is not ideal. I see this on so many welding videos.. You want to keep that rod centre to the pipe with a 10degree rod inclination MAX.

@GarrettMacIntosh4 жыл бұрын
Dat Clutch that is correct. This test basically says you can test further. Basically every company requires either an in-house test or a bunch of qualifications before you start with them, and those are pretty much all 6g, and most commonly a 2 1/2” xxh coupon to get max thickness.

Why not do a 6g and cover 1g-6g test like we do down here in the states?

@@derekcollins1972 so they only do in position welds that focus on 2g and 5g? Seems like a waste since they were only doing a 1/4 of the pipe instead of just requiring a 6g with 6010/7018
