This simple install of an upgraded injector pump will unlock crazy torque & power potential from your mechanical diesel engine. Having the right turbo is great, but fuel is what separates the men from the boys. I'll never forget the first time I drove my car with my performance injector pump from UFI. Hands down the best single modification that will transform how your diesel 4wd performs.

Hi Timmy. Love your KZfaq posts, esp out on the tracks. I’m from Vic but love Tassie. My days of travel have passed so your trips give me great joy. Your explanations on the mechanical stuff are so clear and as a non mechanical person I can understand them. And so much cudos for your upfront news that Kinchrome is helping you out. So much honesty over those KZfaq channels that don’t declare their affiliations. Keep up the great work. Cheers Andrew

@@timmyhasheart I'd love to see some videos about driving technique from you. I grew up street racing and eventually (after getting in trouble enough) going to the track and learned heaps in that time. I've only recently, as a 35yr old got into 4x4 and its a whole different world. Even just voice overs about what you're doing up certain tracks would be fucken mint. Throttle control and gear selection seem on par with going fast on a race track but the logic behind what you're doing when you do it is very, very different.

@timmyhasheart
@timmyhasheart 5 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching mate! Yeah well all the jap cars are pretty similar pretty sure, not sure what an FE6 is, diesels in general are the same in terms of fuel being hot, boost being cool and excessive fuel causing soot, but as for how you fix that changes a lot in a newer car cause all the fuel is mapped by ECU, not mechanical. 👍🏻

@@timmyhasheart It's a bigger inline 6 diesel engine I have in my 1990 Nissan UD 1800 dump truck. Definitely more popular over there. I have a colder cylinder and white smoke, I'm going to swap injectors with a healthy cylinder and see what happens, I think I'm running too lean too.
@timmyhasheart
@timmyhasheart 5 ай бұрын
@crazyDIYguy ohhh okay, yeah I know nothing about big truck engines haha, but if it’s a mechanical diesel and it’s not just start up, (I’d say glow or heater if it was start up) but yeah definitely on the right track with swapping them around although and getting a thermo gun onto it, but yeah white smoke is cold unburnt/poorly burnt fuel so I reckon you’re all over it unless that cylinder is low on comp

First video of yours I came across but absolutely loved it. I’ve got a factory turbo gu and maxing out my pump at the moment trying to get more out of my it without grinding the pin out. Can you further explain a bit on turning the star wheel as I haven’t touched it yet. Thanks mate keep up the good work
@timmyhasheart
@timmyhasheart 6 ай бұрын
That’s awesome man thank you I appreciate the kind words. The way to get more noticeable early torque out of a factory pump will be to wind down the top grub screw, take shims off, rotate the pin to the steep side and loosen the spring by winding the star wheel DOWN. Which unloads the spring and helps it dive to the deeper point of the pin with less boost 👍🏻👍🏻

@timmyhasheart
@timmyhasheart 10 ай бұрын
Yeah mate that’s what happens when you go a little too far with the fuel. Eventually you get to a point where the revs hang a bit as you tap the throttle. I did go into this in the video but cut it out because I was focused on compensated pumps. But what I do to tune 10mm’s is have the car running, turn the fuel screw up a bit, drop the idle, fuel up, drop the idle and as you get toward the end start tapping the throttle a bit and once the revs start to hang a bit, back it off slightly. 👍🏻👍🏻

That’s good that they told you that, and that’s exactly the point that I’m about to say and probably should have said in the video - you should set the pump to whatever your pump builder says to. So if your pump builder says 0.75 that’s what you should go to. UFI says 0.64-0.70 and factory has settings also. Depends on your pump builder mate 🫡

Hey mate it’s not really a knock it’s more of a fuel rattle but it’s really not noticeable unless you’re listening, really really big 12mm’s can sound like marbles rolling around in the engine but 11’s and normal 12’s really isn’t crazy noticeable unless you have it set with a lot of advance. I have a 1HDT rebuilt pump, TD05 18g turbo comes on boost good max of 22psi , but when cruising at 100k boost is around 10psi and egts creep up to around 450-500 per turbo. Doesn’t help that it’s on 35s and auto so it’s sitting at 2100 rpm at 100km. Any recommendations on adjustment before I take it to a tuner, thanks

Tbh mate pre turbo that’s fine, I’m like 400-450 on the highway POST turbo.. but it could mean your spring tension is a bit too tight, so mid boost it’s running rich. 👍🏻👍🏻

Hey mate thanks for the comment! 10, 11, 12 isn’t the be-all, end-all of how dangerous a pump is, it’s just the size of the plunger that the fuel can come down, plenty of parameters determine the fuel coming in aside from the plunger, you could have a 10mm/11mm more powerful than a 12, it all depends on how it’s setup. They aren’t inherently dangerous at all mate. Usually out of the box it will be set to a theoretical HP figure, or sometimes they’ll ask what turbo and what target boost and they’ll shape the fuel input on what’s called a bench, which is basically a pump dyno. So depends what you actually ordered, where you ordered it from and what it’s setup for, but even if you asked for some crazy 300hp pump, you can just dial it back by adding shims or spring tension etc. 👍🏻👍🏻

Great video bud! I was just curious where your pump timing marks ended after using the tool to adjust it? Were you back to being lined up or advanced? Thanks heaps!
@timmyhasheart
@timmyhasheart 3 ай бұрын
The marks don’t move mate, so once you get the ZZ lined up that’s that, gear goes on with a key way and that doesn’t move again.. but then when you chuck the tool in and rip it from side to side, you’re advancing or retarding within the pump itself, the key is held by the gear and you’re actually turning it slightly inside the pump to be slightly advanced, hope that makes sense. 👍🏻
@clint7799
@clint7799 3 ай бұрын
Sorry boss, I wasn’t exactly clear in my question, I apologize. I was referring to the factory etched mark that is on the injection pump triangle flange. Once the IP is mounted, that mark on the flange should line up with another factory etched mark on the engine mounting surface. I was curious how both of your marks lined up after using the tool- if you were advanced, retarded, or lined up perfectly?

@@timmyhasheart pump and injectors were recoed 15000km ago and was running on every so often and it started crap but didn’t make a rattle. took it to a TD specialist and they fixed that problem - TPS set incorrectly, throttle stops set incorrectly, TPS code rectified, retimed to spec (apparently other shop had it timed wrong), and they replaced the glow plug timer and it had been perfect until really cold weather (coolant 8-10 degrees)

The best mod is to grab an inline vacuum governor TD42 pump and graft a mechanical governor to it and if the planets align for you locate and use an SD33-T gov case as it has a boost control/aneroid from the factory. Instead of just one 10mm, 11mm, 12mm plunger feeding 6 cylinders and smashing camplates and rollers ( even if the top of the line Bosch ones are fitted) you can have one big plunger per cylinder.
@timmyhasheart
@timmyhasheart 10 ай бұрын
Well tbh if you want an in-line pump for a TD they already exist, hence why it’s in the GQ manual. But tbh 12mm VE pumps already give more fuel than a TD42 can even handle before spitting 2 pieces of crank on the ground so why stray from what works. 😅
@matui6983
@matui6983 10 ай бұрын
But they are vacuum governor and cant be run with boost without some dodgy mods . I build pumps and injectors for a living and have done for 40 years now. Dont get me wrong a VE is a great little unit. But more VE's die than inline pumps do esp when a VE is made to supply a lot of fuel. Each to their own at the end of the day. A modded VE, different nozzles and inj mods, coolant bypass at the rear of the head etc and a TD42-T is transformed.

Some how im getting 23psi on a 10mm pump
@timmyhasheart
@timmyhasheart 10 ай бұрын
Yeah that’s not unheard of, depends on your turbo size and the specifics of your pump. I had a HT18 with a closed gate and it ran 22 with a maxed 10mm. But to be honest you’re not using that 23psi, anything over 16psi is pretty much just additional cooling & additional back pressure. Would probably run more efficiently at 16-18
