@@antonio97b maybe when cars are stationary or crawling. But at speed, it can be very dangerous. I once had a dude lane split on the highway when traffic was moving at around 75mph and he flew by between cars like they were standing still. It caught a lot of drivers off guard and a couple even ended up swerving away in the opposite direction because of him. Problem is. If they make it legal while doing low speeds and illegal at speeds over certain MPH, people won't follow it and then come up with excuses. So yeah.

@@emclaire18 Would argue there absolutely was time to slow down. Maintaining speed while being cut off is dangerous, especially on highways, not even taking into account the 4 seconds the cammers brights were on . Regardless of who is at fault (it is the pickup due to overtaking in the right lane), having the mindset of "this is my lane and you can fuck off" is such a childish way to drive. Puts everyone at risk, including one self. Sure, pickup driver is a moron no arguement there, but refusing to back down for half a second to create space/increase safety for you and everyone around you because "it's my right" is a very dangerous way to drive. I 've been building and riding Harleys since I was 16. I'm 70 now. I am a huge advocate of motorcyclist's rights. In my estimation, one of the dumbest things that was instituted was legal lane splitting. As far as I know, only Cali legalized it. You have a hard enough time not getting run over when you're fully visible in a lane. Nobody is looking for someone to come alongside them between lanes. Just because it's legal doesn't make it a smart thing to do. Cali allows this but forces you to wear a helmet.

I'm cool with it at red lights or gridlocked streets, but on the freeway it's always seemed absolutely idiotic. I've almost creamed motorcyclists that were splitting stupidly. Checked my mirrors, signaled, looked over shoulder, all clear, next thing I know this rocket flies up as I'm moving over.
@Plasmatique
@Plasmatique 3 жыл бұрын
Thing is, there's a couple of stipulations to the lane splitting, such as that it's only allowed in certain situations (slow or stopped traffic), the max speed difference between the traffic and the biker (10-15 mph), etc. etc. I agree with you that it's still not seen as normal for drivers that a bike can pass you like that, but as a non-biker I also believe you should be aware of your surroundings at all times. That way at least you minimize the risks and as long as people abide the traffic code, 95% of those kinds of accidents can be prevented.

His whole description is total dog shit too; he lists the penal code for “intentionally blocking or impeding a motorcyclist” when that’s clearly not what the truck was doing. The guy was well within his lane and he’s driving a wider vehicle. Even if the guy was checking his mirrors every ten seconds, which would be extremely rare for a passenger vehicle as not even semi truck drivers do that, he still wouldn’t have had time to see the rider. Motorcyclist also had plenty of time to realize there’s not going to be enough room but instead he just kept on riding towards the danger. Then he has the audacity to try and blame everyone else instead of taking responsibility for his mistake. He’s also definitely full of shit when he said “everyone including my insurance said I was 100% not at fault.” Lane splitting in CA is only legal if done safely - that wasn’t being safe.

1:09 I'm sorry your hurt, but while it may be legal to lane-split in the area you are in, you are still required to do so at a "safe-speed" relative to the speed of the cars you are passing between. This means no more than 5mph difference in speed, not the 10-15 mph you were flying past them at. Also, that truck "might" have drifted maybe 3 inches, they didn't "swerve over", rewatch your own video and look at were its tires are relative to the dotted line. You cannot expect drivers to spend 99.9% of their time watching their rear mirrors looking for motorcycles so they can "leave plenty of room" for you to lane-slit in.

@@zerofallen059 I hope he takes it as a lesson learned rather than being spiteful. I definitely support the whole "look twice save a life" idea of being more aware of bikes, but you really cannot expect drivers to be 100% aware of you 24/7. You could still save plenty of time with lane splitting doing a safer around 5mph faster than traffic, instead of the dangerous flying past cars. That still gives you a huge advantage over being another person stuck in a car. Are most drivers generally ignorant and should be more aware? For sure. But you also have to consider the fact some people on the road have other issues, such as maybe being elderly with a less precise response to their surroundings, or someone with lack of sleep due to their job or life situation. If there's one thing I've learned from my time driving it's that you can't expect the world around you to do things correctly or be perfect, that simply will never happen and you're only increasing your chances of getting injured or killed. Instead of relying on others, you need to be aware yourself and adjust for any sort of obstacle down the road.

The truck doesn’t even look like he was attempting To switch lanes which he can argue based on the video too at time of impact the cyclist just makes that assumption. The truck was still within the lane and no one drives completely steady and straight the whole time he drifted a little left but never left his lane and his front wheels were never in a turning position, so how can you assume he was trying to block or switch lanes. A cyclist lane splitting Should decrease speeds when doing so for the fact that you are literally driving between 2 cars and you can incorrectly Judge the amount of space you have which is exactly what is shown in that clip smh.

Impact was at 12:19 The dashcam car was driving at about 16 metres / second which would have a stopping distance of about 35 metres (114 feet) * Way less than the distance between both vehicles at first. The thing that caused this is there was slow moving traffic in the other lanes so the driver changed into the almost empty lane. The driver pulling out had obviously checked the almost clear lane then started moving and hadn't checked again for the dashcam driver car that was now in her lane. We have more reasonable rules inland splitting here in NL. It is legal, but: highways only, between the 2 leftmost lanes only, and only in slow moving traffic, maintaining a small speed difference. The advantage of allowing it in the leftmost lanes is that cars there expect filtering bikers; they keep an eye out and generally drive away from the space between those 2 lanes. This makes lane splitting pretty safe. This idiot had it coming. Too fast, and a poor judge of the situation. @@ohger1 first of all, cammer wasn't rear-ended. Not sure how you came to that conclusion, unless you think that the cammer hitting his brakes at the last second is him getting "hit"... That said, while I do agree with the insurance company's claim that the cammer had plenty of time to slow down to avoid a collision, I DO think that the pickup truck driver should be held at majority fault, despite their claim to the contrary, due to the fact that he brake checked the cammer (which is a no no, no matter the situation), regardless of the fact that the cammer didn't slow down enough. That he brake checked long enough for the cammer to hit him shows that he wanted the cammer to suffer in some way for "wronging him," even if it was just to force him to slow down. That's intent.

@@JudgeRightly I agree the brake checker was absolutely also at fault. As far as the cammer being rear ended first, it's right there in the video. There is a loud bang that immediately precedes his striking the truck. The two bangs are less than a second apart. The cammer was slow to hit his own brakes because he was pushing the lock button on his cam. After he pushed the button (beep), he brakes hard and gets hit from behind - first bang. It's possible the car that hit the cammer actually pushed him into the truck - second bang. The weird thing is that the cammer got hit again(!) about 10 seconds later when he was alongside the the tractor-trailer, and he doesn't mention that either.

I don’t know about any other state, but I’m from Michigan and when I had my car accident last summer, I was told the police do NOT make a determination of who is at fault; that is left up to the insurance companies. Regarding the motorcyclist lane splitting, I don’t know HOW anyone with eyes could honestly determine that the service truck was trying to block or impede him. It is obvious, and the majority opinion of these viewers, that the motorcyclist is completely at fault. Just another example of ENTITLEMENT…

Different states have different policies... In Kentucky (for instance) Cops always put a "fault" to the accidents in their reports... At least, they did when I lived there. AND the motorcyclist is NOT an example of entitlement. He's clearly an aspiring example of Darwinism... Gear or not, if you ride like that, you're not long for this world. @ddbhaha1529

You both are wrong. ABS only releases(modulates) brakes once the wheel stops(wheel speed slows more then the vehicle speed) rotating. Which means you are always losing small amount of possible stopping distance due to slippage when ABS is activated. Threshold braking means braking to the limit point just before wheels slip so shorten the brake distance. So it is POSSIBLE TO SHORTEN BRAKING DISTANCE BY NOT USING ABS. AND IT IS ABSOLUTELY POSSIBLE ON ABS EQUIPPED VEHICLES. But in real life, just slam the pedal. Your feet is probably dumber than modern ABS systems most of the time.
@AcuraTSX-nv5zr
@AcuraTSX-nv5zr 3 жыл бұрын
@@ddbhaha1529 Alright, I see your point, in theoretical terms you are right, however ABS systems have been around for a long time and especially on higher end cars you will get almost 0 locking, so the difference will near unnoticable to theoretical threshold braking. There is no way any human can compete with a computer, especially in the moment before a crash, where a person's instinct is to smack full on the brakes and let the ABS do its job.
@ddbhaha1529

@@AcuraTSX-nv5zr You are right. But it is not just about computer is faster human either. Unless the vehicle and driver's brain are perfectly tuned for the road surface/weight distribution/tire temp/tire pressure/brake force proportion and etc, it is almost impossible to achieve a successful threshold braking without actually not braking enough. ;)

8:31 "His truck was just scratched basically" Well, pausing at this still says otherwise. The bumper is toast, the grill and driver's headlight assemblies are pushed up into the hood, the hood is slightly twisted now, and I bet the corner of the fender is curled now. Internal support structure will have seen damage and may need additional parts replaced that aren't visible. Add this all up, and that impact definitely did thousands in damage to that Yukon, certainly more than a "scratch." A Yukon which looks like would have just cleared the intersection before the light turned red, so I don't think they deserve any blame whatsoever.

@@AcuraTSX-nv5zr Pause it on the damaged Yukon, you can see the blinker housing popped out and the gap between the hood and fender has been expanded. I agree with everything except they where passing other vehicles. The only reason that truck could pass on the right is because the truck that was there just changed lanes. There was not enough time or space for the driver to move over(safely) before the other truck took its place. Even if there was, they where a few seconds from being beside another truck that they are passing, swapping lanes for two seconds two swap back over can be unsafe too.

3: Toxicbeamer: Come on man. I could see that coming from way back before you passed the black SUV. The gap was too tight . I ride too and would have stopped splitting as soon as I had pulled beside the white ute/ truck (after the black SUV) . Car drivers move across on me as well but I make sure I'm doing a speed that I can stop if they do. 3:56 Jake: I think there is more to this story and there is also this pedal in the middle / left called a brake pedal . If someone is racing up the left like that he/she/it is obviously going to do something stupid like cut in front. All I hear is you increasing your acceleration to try to stop them getting past you. It is far better just to let them go. That way they can crash into someone else or if you're lucky they get a ticket. 7:05 And I quote , "This was clearly not my fault, this driver cut me off then slammed on his brakes for no reason at all" ... The driver most likely was upset at you hogging the fast lane and so he/she/it passed you . You then turned on your high beam to get back at him/her/it which increased their annoyance so they brake checked you. Both of you are in the wrong here. Brake checking is really stupid but running your high beam at someone just because they changed lanes a too close and continuing to run the high beam for a long period after that (until the point of impact) is just asking for it.

Didn't he (dude at 7:05) get rear-ended before he hit the car in front of him? There are two distinct sounds that you can hear, which would imply he could not willingly come to a stop due to a car tailgating him and, again, if true, that means the guy who brake-checked is completely at fault even if the cammer used high-beams. @@DoctorLifeMD "If high beams are such a problem just don't look in your middle mirror." Um... no Minor correction for you (and so you don't confuse others)... The middle mirror has an internal device called a "prism", which works with the little flat lever at the middle/bottom... You just move that lever like a switch, and you're in "night vision mode", so you can still see behind you fine enough, but the lights (even brights) can't blind you... not in that mirror. Don't JUST believe me, either. Go find a car with a middle rear-view, and set it up to give you a view, then flip the little lever at the bottom... back and forth. It takes a few practice tries to get good at not inadvertently move it "off"... AND I've always found it easiest to press the lever back (away from me) so I can "pinch" it against the mirror to engage the prism (It WILL work either way)... It's the side mirrors that you can't bother adjusting while you travel down the road, and THEY can catch the brights from behind with not one damn thing you can do except lean forward dangerously against the wheel to avoid the beams. Not trying to be mean, but I've recently stumbled across the fact that this isn't so well known or publicized... SO I'm trying to help anyone and everyone concerned to become a safer driver, especially at night. ;o)
