Jacob for your battery Husky - try pressing in the battery into the contacts further. A couple of years ago I got jostled on dropping a top and the Husky Li saw just packed it in - I had to finish chunking the stem by forcing the battery into the square receiver in the case. I couldn't get the contacts to work no how and ended up ordering a new BLi 300 CASE ONLY from Walkers saw shop in Nanaimo BC. It took forever but once I changed the case the battery guts work fine. My theory is that the BLi 300's being just that much heavier may be prone to battery clip malfunction (and the rounds of electrical tape I used in the meantime to hold the battery in so it worked, ended up being a pain, but did work in a pinch). It took so long I guess 'cuz the batteries are apparently made in Poland and guess with the Putin the Dark One and his carnage they have other things on their minds right now. Hope this could help you out. Stay safe out there.

I will say that Locust is some of my absolute favorites to turn on the lathe. And it is definitely a hardwood. Definitely have to sharpen my tools often when I turn it.

My neighbor and I just felled a Dogwood in a similar configuration, except my dogwood was ~40 feet tall. It had Ivy growing on it for 27 years. We used my newly-bought Makita XCU11 LXT 18V single-battery rear-handle 14" bar saw to do it all. Took 5x 4.0Ah charges and 3x 5.0Ah charges (between 4 actual batteries) to fell it and buck it. It was a 6-hour ordeal.

Two things come to mind. First is, I've never seen any one use a chainsaw on a salad, but I think this comes close. Second is, damn that would suck so bad if that was poison ivy and you didn't know it.

That ivy was insane, we have a lot of black locust here in Ky. Great firewood and will quickly wear a sharp chain down. Randy is a solid guy, and hilarious to boot! Nice work.

Around here (WV, PA, OH), locust commonly has lots of poison ivy on it, sometimes almost as dense as the tree in this video. We have to be careful cutting that, meaning we can't let the sawdust get under clothing or anywhere it would rub. Then there's the thorns... gotta be careful when dragging the smaller limbs. And for some reason, they almost never grow straight around here, always heavily leaning one way or another. Maybe they're drunk, which is a segue into the next locust topic: Locust has quite a history here in West Virginia with moonshiners. During prohibition, as a moonshiner, you would run a wood-fired illegal distillery to make illegal alcoholic beverages. If you got a fire to the point of some hot coals, you would toss locust wood on it and it would burn extremely hot, extremely clean, and for a long time compared to other wood, meaning during the daytime, you wouldn't throw a smoke signal for the feds to detect the moonshine operation. Then at night you could burn whatever you want because it's too dark to see the smoke. If you weren't as daring, you would use locust for fence posts. Untreated locust lasts far, far, far longer than even modern day treated wood fence posts. We're talking maybe 40-60 years. It's a truly remarkable species.

That was a lot of ivy! I used to cut it at the base on any tree I found it on. However I have learned that while it may cause the tree to fail it's good to leave some. In the winters it provides shelter and food for deer (as it's an evergreen). It is also a good habitat for birds who nest in it and is home to many insects :) This is in a forest though, totally understand why they asked you to take that one out!!

And the Big Top that you took were it burnt Randy's hands a little bit, he had one wrap That's why. he said he had 2 wraps. He only had one you can see on the Porta wrap. Thank God his hands are okay god bless

Black locust is all I have around my house. I've never had one blow over because they reproduce from the roots so they are all connected.

Same thing happened to my battery 540 I held back the chain brake and it resets the saw. I notice it happens when the saw runs out of bar oil.

have you tried using the 20o batterie in the husky? ive had the same with a leaveblower once. 300 didnt work but 200 worked just fine. no dea why. the 300 worked with other equipment...

Wow at least its not Purple Winter Creeper like we have here in Indiana. You end up covered in Poison Ivy like bumps, but rather than oil it has microscopic shards like fiberglass that get under skin. Virginia Creeper I thinks is the same, you'll just be fine if you don't hurt it, lol

I think locust is dusty because it's brittle ... friable perhaps ... strong fibers but lower green moisture content perhaps than other strong-fiber species (elm, hedge and mulberry come to mind). Seems to store lots of minerals / grit in the bark on the midwest - locust and cedar like to take the edge off of cutters - way faster than green hedge (osage orange) in my limited experience.

Is Ivy considered a hardwood or softwood species ?

In my state the problem vine is kudzu - it covers everything and kills everything it covers - we found a poison that works in killing it - but tgere's still a big clean up after its dead

Now I feel like I can't even pick up a saw until I stop by Tommy Bahama and pick up something from their Kevlar Kollection (?) ... between Cinnabon and Tommy Bahama Randy should be set to be on some beach somewhere in retirement.

These situations are my least favorite to deal with. I've had two in the past week, first one ailanthus with many english ivy vines, the next was a red oak, with a 7 inch diameter Chinese Wisteria on it. . Thankfully lift access on both, had to do some cribbing and mats to get it up some stairs for one, but still so much better than trying to climb one of those beasts. Love your channel keep it up

EI is also bad in that once it gets to a certain cover saturation, it will start collecting water between ivy and the bark and the tree will often start rotting from the outside in:/

I like Jacob’s videos but admittedly know next to nothing about the relationship between trees and ivy. Does it grow strictly from the ground and use the tree to climb or is more a symbiotic thing where the ivy uses the tree for nutrients and structure both? Nice work either way boys!!!
