In case no one caught it, the code King Cold puts into the panel 4386 is GEVO which is the human name of Android 16, who is confirmed to be Dr Gero's son, which is why the Red Ribbon Army logo appears. Hints that Gero's in the other HFIL team with Cooler?

But why would he be in HFIL? He never killed anyone innocent, and even attempted to sacrifice himself to kill Cell. He should be in heaven. Edit: apparently that was android 16, who I now recall was fully robotic. Gevo may very well have been a rotten scumbag rotting in Hell for supporting the RR army prior to being killed by Goku in that abridged video since that's the canon we're going with. And for everyone kindly blowing up my notifications saying "Uh, akcthually, it's GERO that's in hfil", the original comment wasn't entirely clear on that.

<a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="318">5:18</a> Note that Freeza attempts to “brute force” the keypad by going in numerical order, while Cell notes the letters above the buttons and makes a few educated guesses. As high class and educated as Freeza behaves, his approach to problem solving is basically “force the thing to do what I want,” in keeping with his role as an unchallenged warlord. Cell, on the other hand, began his life far weaker than the biggest players, and thus had to think and strategize to get what he wanted.

Never mind that his self-centered first instinct was to press the buttons corresponding to his birthday, and then his name, whereas Cell thought about relevant 4-letter words, like “HFIL” and “GURU”. Given a little bit more time and desperation, he probably would have tried “COLD”, “OGRE”, “NMEK”, who knows what else.

Frieza acts exactly like how high class people act. He's not used to doing anything like that - he pays other people to do that for him. Education and Manners are wasted when you think you're better than everyone else by default. Him acting like a frustrated violent brat when things don't go his way is unbelievably close to the mark.

The funny thing is that even though Cell was VASTLY more powerful than Frieza in the original series, he only managed to destroy a planet no bigger than a mansion.

An interesting thing to note here about these two villains: Cell was never really given a choice on the kind of person he could be. Frieza had PLENTY of time and opportunities to be a better person.

In the TFS version Cell had plenty of choice. And he wanted to be a Saiyan, when you really broke it down. Bit more tact, but the part of himself he most embraced when he became Perfect was his Saiyan side. He wanted a fight. No more, no less. He enjoyed a bit of mental breakdown manufacturing that's a bit more of his Frieza side, but who he is, and who he wanted to be, was simply Saiyan. In HFIL, he wants out, and if I had to guess as to where he'd prefer to go once he's out, I'd say his first pick would be "where would I go to find Goku? Want a rematch now that we're both dead and fighting forever is possible now. I know he'd be up for it, and if I have a literal eternity I can think of worse ways to spend it."

You can fact-check that info pretty easily, don't worry. (In my case, I know this because back when GT aired, detractors of it called it a Toei fanfiction _specifically_ because Akira Toriyama wasn't directly involved in the plot.)

There's someone you're not thinking about. "This is so non-canon it hurts" being a line in Episode of Bardock Abridged implies it might not be canon to the Abridged Universe, and even if it is, he would have died many many thousands of years ago. Bardock vs Freeza, Round 2. Raditz and Bardock meeting back up. Bardock being proud of his grandson when he finds out how Cell died. Swap Turles for Bardock and you got some wild stuff at play.

Yes he will definitely deliver some chilling one liners, followed by one of two things, either Cell will instantly get along with Cooler or Cooler will be an even bigger prick to him than Frieza, giving the two of them something to bond over.

Gotta say I really hope so, I liked what little extra they did with gero's character from him acting like a flustered intellectual when paniced, to actually having some semblance of empathy with his rebuilt son (and the message from his son creating more backstory for his motives). I honestly kinda hope they'll be some kind of positive bond between him and cell....but I sorta doubt he'd see cell as much more than a tool.

I like how despite typically being the instigator, Freiza does almost nothing but unilaterally lose these verbal spats with Cell. Even when Cell tells Freiza he won, Freiza lost aggressively and he knows it. Basically in these sorts of spats, you lose by letting the other person get under your skin… which with the respective characterization TFS has given them, it makes sense that Freiza would be at disadvantage, with how much less external affirmation Cell needs to maintain his self confidence. Cell only needs to live up to his own expectations to love himself, Freiza needs other people to respect him (or die, but that’s not an option here) to feel like he matters, so outside the Ginyus or someone else getting involved, verbally sparring with Cell is a losing battle for Freiza every time. Dunno how much of it got consciously discussed by TFS, but it’s actually really strong work, in terms of character writing

# 0001 Man, Freiza couldn't even verbally outwit Goku. And he was dumb as bricks (that he could punch to dust) Frieza had no chance with Cell. The only way Frieza would do even a smidge of mental damage to Cell, is if he somehow got Tien down in HFIL. And even then that would backfire horribly.

TFS' Cell just feels way more fleshed out than the regular Cell. Regular Cell was an arrogant anime villain who wanted a good fight; this Cell has that, but he's also been shown to have a sense of humor and even enjoys social interactions (to a point). It makes him feel a lot more like the amalgamation of the various characters that he actually is rather than just mostly a cross between Saiyan Saga Vegeta and Freeza. He seems very much like someone who can manage to adjust to a quiet lifestyle once he gets humbled enough to get over his ego, especially if it's just a means to an end.

@@aimanazminovich3602 I'm not too familiar with Cell in those games. I did play Xenoverse 2 and I think I've played 1, but I don't remember anything special about him there. I was mostly comparing anime Cell to DBZA Cell.

I love how the spirit of DBZA lives on in a show they can do on their own terms, not constricted by a story that has already been told. This is as great as DBZA ever was, and I eagerly look forward to seeing where it goes!
