I acquired a 2005 Jeep Liberty on trade for my 1993 Chevrolet Silverado. I knew going into this that the Liberty had issues, with my suspicions pointing toward the PCM. I had the extra PCM provided by the previous owner, and decided to crack the bastard open after reading a thread on a Jeep Wrangler forum. Hopefully it works!

The transmission issues seem to be with all PCMs manufaucured during the time Mercedes Benz was a part of it owned rights to Chystler my TJ Wrangler had the pcm issues I swapped in a 5spd manual and just deal with the CEL since it wants to talk to the trans that isn’t there ... but hey the shift points are precise and timed perfect now 👌🏼

I used to own a 2 way radio repair shop years ago........ Wouldn't it be easier to take a GOOD Ungar soldering iron, not a GUN to RE Solder all those connections ???? Of course with some fresh solder........... Now my jeep liberty has not been on rough terrain and in the mud at all....... It was a tow Jeep behind a 500,000 $ Blue Bird Motor Home..... Yes there is a AIR brake system conversion on the front of the master cylinder.......... So there is a small battery in it............ My problem is that the battery is a lil over 2 years old and the battery is going bad.......... Dead cells ??? Maybe so ...... Any info from anyone will be appreciated very much........

Cleaning the back (Inside) Of the pins actually serves no purpose other than detect of broken runs, suggest thorough cleaning of exterior front pin connects of PCM/ Harness, female & male..

I had a Toyota with exactly same problem, they changed my pcm 4 times. I finally sold the dam thing, glad I did, junk.

I have similar problems with my liberty and did work for you before I dismantle

No it did not...I still had just as many problems afterward. I poured hours and hours of work into that Jeep before I had to just get rid of it.

@@Helo735 I stil like my liberty want to maintain and I went on ebay and found the PCM is about 1000$ failed to get

Hear that Aaron !! Feeling this is what I need to do I'm atbmy wits end with mine ..it would start and is in limo mode and idling high transmission issues like bad u joint. Kinda symptom .I ordered a remanft one from flagship one in new York and seems like didn't help much got code 0051 still idling high running hot rpm speractic ect...dealership wants over 600 for a pcm!!

I bought a TCM module, with the same serial number, does it need to be programmed for it to work?

Can the BCM be changed without a master automotive electrical degree ?

So what was the result? Did you remove the board from the taco to see what gremlins were on the other side?

I honestly don't recall if I did, or if it was even possible. I eventually sold that jeep at a loss and ran like hell.

Doing what you did will have no effect on the connections that complete the circuits.

It was worth a try; I was desperate at the time. I cut and ran from that jeep.

Did you get a chance to swap them out? I am about to attempt this same thing. Just had pcm replaced and new one has the same problem.

Jay Connor I did and I had minimal improvement of my issues. I eventually sold this Jeep for a loss and ran like hell.

If you have the same problem as before after the pcm replacement then the problem was not with the pcm. Wiring harness maybe

liza smith Drivability issues, not running, not starting, not even cranking, issues with the gauges, all sorts of issues. I never did get to the root of the issues on this Jeep...I eventually sold it for a loss and ran like the devil.

Chrysler has burned a lot of customers buy no longer producing new PCM/TCMs....my local Dodge Dealer worked on my Rubicon for more that two months....finally offered me $10,000 to trade it in on a new Toyota.......I took the offer.

$130 pre-programmed on ebay.
