Inside a HUGE Abandoned WW1 & WW2 Underground Hospital

Жыл бұрынIn, around, & beneath Pula, Croatia are over 500 military fortifications ranging from massive 19th century Austro Hungarian Forts to huge WW1 & WW2 Bunkers & extensive tunnels (over 10km) from the 19th cent thru the Cold War.
In this episode, we take a look at one of the 26 circular Austro-Hungarian forts and a massive underground WW1/ WW2/ Yugoslav War Hospital/ Bomb Shelter hidden in plain sight beneath the modern, new Hospital.

We had so many parties on the first fort, it has party history for 20 years. And on the other one called "Fort Punta Christo" we've been on Dimensions & Outlook Festivals like 7,8 summers, so many good memories so I wanted to share them with you. These places are truly a secret keepers. 😁✌️

Awesome stuff. Blast wall is the wall usually around 3 to 5 feet thick concrete in case a bomb was to hit the entrance .

Best to not get separated from the group down there 😬 Given how accessible it seems to be, I'm surprised there are no markers on the walls that lead to the nearest exit. Then again, I got the feeling that tunneling is ingrained in these people's DNA - they probably just know where the exits would be. 😅

I know for sure that Zlatko aka Bunkerman knows the story of the two young boys who got lost in these tunnels and were never found! people underestimate how tangled the tunnels under Pula are.

@@TattooedTraveler I remember when I was stationed in Giessen at the Army Depot we found a door to some underground structure that we couldn't access. It would have been awesome to explore. Just history everywhere that was so beautiful!

@@TattooedTraveler just checked Google maps and it's still a field at the time their satellite imagery was taken. We turned the depot over to the Germans years ago so I wonder if they did anything with it.

Well, aren't you a sight for sore eyes !!! I think the last time I saw you you were swimming in some tunnels...something like that anyway. What an amazing feat these tunnels are, truly a herculean effort although the conditions for a hospital were primitive at best. However, they were there to serve a higher purpose. I have missed so many of your travels I will have to go back and watch them. Good to see you again doing what you love. I will be there for the next one be it above or below the ground !!!

Always so glad that your videos have so much history with them. That first tunnel looks awfully crude especially when compared to the new hospital. Was it all dense rock that they tunneled through? must have been quite an undertaking.

The 'brand new hospital' you're showing at 14:40 is actually part of the University of Pula. It used to be the old hospital but right now the medical facilities are moving into one building close by while gifting most of their real estate to UniPu. What you're filming is the student cafeteria, some admin buildings and one of the dorms. That whole area you're in at that time mark is part of UniPu as well and with time will be turned into a massive campus..

@@TattooedTraveler Many of us Puležani were born in that maternity ward. The transition to Unipu started some 7 years ago so it's pretty recent 😀
