Damanhur is a microsociety and Italian ecovillage in the hills of Northern Italy, founded in 1977, boasting its own language, religion, and currency, with over 600 citizens. They believe their leader, Oberto Airaudi Falco, traveled in time to the lost city of Atlantis and learned ancient healing practices, which they still practice today. Each year, they host their annual birthday celebration, where Damanhurians from all over the world return to Damanhur, decked in white robes, and perform ceremonial rituals.
VICE's Alessia Camoirano Bruges attends the annual celebration, to learn more about a group who have turned their back on society, intending to create their own utopian paradise.

Yes - but since they still haven't had the time to become more advanced than the three millenia old civilization of Atlantis...I guess that's only to be expected. They are still in the process of 'rediscovering' the lost knowledge of Atlantis after all... Hehehe...I guess we'll have to wait another couple of hundred years or so - before they really start to 'take off' and eclipse this lost knowledge and tech. ;-)

@MrZenGuitarist
@MrZenGuitarist Жыл бұрын
@@pedromigueldinis That's very true - although an item can have pretty much the same commercial price, literally everywhere. We're stilled attracted to, intrigued by and drawn to different types of items, and are thus more or less willing to pay a certain price for something. With that said though - those ridiculously high prices that they asked for these, what look like 'spontaneously' hand-crafted necklaces, armbands & ankle-'chains'...but ridiculously overprized by 80-90% for their professed 'medical benefits' (Which, conveniently, no-one but a 'Damanhurian' him-, her-self can really even "possibly ever hope to understand it"....since not many 'even amongst their own' truly 'understands it'! So...to be hones, IF I had and got 10 times more money than I need - maybe I'ld buy one of those, if I found it nice and artistic. (And not for any unknown and impossible to prove claims). But unfortunately, I do not...so, neither a trip to see this commune/village - and definitively no 'jewelry' from them! Just my thoughts.

Tell me about it. In my teenage hipster years I joined an Eastern religious group with my friend. We left after a few months because the amount of mentally fucked up people there was way too high, plus it had a this cult of personality of the leader. It was the Karma Kagyu group. Good experince tho, definitely part of why I'm an atheist now.

I was living close to their centre for a while. They have two sides like all cults. They are all very nice and kind and we used their shop a lot because it was having all the organic things that couldn't be found anywhere else in the area. BUT they are also politically controlling at least 10 to 12 towns around their centre. They take a ton of money from their members. They also have members stop contacting their families if they are not agreeing with them. We even had to help one nice, older Lady to leave. She was from England and really wanted to leave but she was afraid for her life. She didn't trust anyone, not even the most members of our group. Only two of us where helping her and we were acting as her bodyguards being on her side while she was packing up her stuff. Within a few days we drove her to the airport in her own car that she just left with us. She was so desperate to get away from them. People around there say that it was all founded by occultists in Torino. Looking at the past of Torino this can actually make sense. Long time ago the rulers of Torino tried to lower the popes influence on the region by inviting every cult to live there without having to fear persecution. You can look this up easily. They claim to be able to heal anything with their copper spirals but their leader Falcao died of cancer. We always thought that's kind of funny. Obviously not that he died of cancer but that they couldn't even heal the leader. Rumours are he really liked the girls in his cult and he also really liked to go for leisure flights with his shiny helicopter. Don't get me wrong, I like their way of living in little groups and eating all organic and such. But they are also dangerous. When I left there was a lot of fighting in the cult because of the power gap Falcaos death left, not sure how it is today. They probably figured it out

I remember once reading (not the best source citing, I know) that contrary to common belief, cults often recruit highly intelligent and respected members of the community. Doctors, lawyers, the works. It’s this egotistical “I’m to smart for a cult so this is surely not a cult” that cults do in fact use quite ingeniously. It’s similar to the notion of business managers being surprisingly vulnerable to scams. They’re to smart, to successful, wise to ever fall for such a thing; so obviously the offer is the real deal. All it takes is one trauma, one severe illness to cloud our judgement and leave us vulnerable. The first step to being immune to propaganda is knowing you are not immune to propaganda.

I have know two women who joined the Moonies and Children of God. they were very active in university activities, had friends and family who loved them and appreciated them. It is interesting . . . a certain percentage of the population has some sort of internal mental switch that gets activated, and they get pulled into the fanatical group think mentality syndrome with the [fill in the blank] cult. My son took his life eight years ago. He was 34 a person who was loved by everyone he came in contact with. He never showed any signs of not being well in the slightest. He loves looking into space and one day he told me he had pictures of mars but he had to sign a contract that he wouldn’t put then on the internet or publicly disclose. He showed me some , and he would say you can do better than that and maybe a couple of days later he would get a few new. Out of no where he thought the tv was talking to him and he thought helicopters were spying on him and just a bunch of stuff that made no sense. He said he said he was told that he killed someone and bury him in his backyard and said mom I would never do something like that.. When I learned a problem, I was out of town and they would take me a day to get home so I told his wife to watch my son until I got there to take my son to talk to someone and he killed his self before I can get there. I don’t understand what the hell happened. All started with his fascination with mars in these photos. I had to accept it happened but it took five years.

I am so deeply sorry for you loss. Sending you so much love and many hugs. ✨ A similar thing happened to me. It turned out i had pernicious anemia, an autoimmune disorder, which meant that I could not absorb vitamin B12 which is essential to life and good mental health. So, essentially my brain was dieing. In the years since I have cured myself and I have done s lot of research which point's to many, if not all poor mental health issues being caused by nutritional deficiencies/ low levels. And that most can be improved or cured by high dose full spectrum nutritional supplements. We are organic beings who need nutrients to thrive and flourish. I am now on my path to try to become s nutritional psychiatrist as I don't want others to suffer like your son an I. I also tried to take my life and fortunately I survived. But I was very close to death. There is a really interesting book called "The Better Brain" by Dr Julia Rucklidge PhD and Dr Bonnie Kaplan PhD which explores this and research on the information mentioned above. ✨💖✨

It seems as much art community as cult to me. I could very easily see many non-believers living out their days happily in this place, singing the songs, and going to the community events while playing make believe with your friends. It seems the aesthetic of spirituality yields beautiful artwork, and always has. The frescoes on the walls, stone masonry art, architecture, stained glass installations, jewelry, lighting arrangement, etc... It's all very beautiful in my opinion. Artists aren't really known for being wealthy individuals, with the obvious exceptions of a select few. Giving up all of your possessions to live in a beautiful place like this and have your needs met is going to be a different kind of proposition to different kinds of people. I don't think you would have to truly believe in time travel and alien visitors and such to enjoy living here.

Anyone who wants to understand wtf they're on about without having to give your entire life away should check out Hemi-Sync. It was developed in the 80's, still a bit woo woo, but essentially they worked out most spiritual experiences are sound based, making use of bi-neural beats. My theory is that it makes you much more aware of your entire nervous system, hence all the talk of tingles and warmth etc and releases natural stores of various neuro transmitters, such as a psychedelic like DMT giving you that experience of meeting with elves, energy beings, aliens, gods, what have you. Attach all that to some symbols, some lore and some psychological manipulation and presto: Cult.
