Paracelsus in Switzerland is the most expensive rehab in the world, serving a clientele of royalty, politicians, oligarchs, business tycoons and A-list celebrities. Forget the £20,000-a-month celebrities spend at The Priory in Surrey, or the £41,700 they shell out for 45 days at the Meadows in Arizona - a five-week residential rehab here costs a whopping £315,000 - about ten times the average UK annual salary.
Staying at a lakeside villa in Zurich with 24/7 limousine transportation, a personal chef, a butler and a concierge, clients have access to a five-star hotel spa and a live-in therapist (who sleeps in the spare room). Activities include tennis, yoga, martial arts, weightlifting, massage and more.
We sent writer and model Sydney Lima there to see if it could help her kick her partying lifestyle. But while she was there, she uncovered a strange, unexpected world.

I figured this out when I worked in Fine Dining in the USA. The food was so expensive I made about 6000 a month in tips. All I was doing was talking to people and bringing them exceptionally expensive food. Was easy as hell and I was making more money than most people I knew. Also hearing stories from the people rich enough to afford that food, I also realized their jobs were really easy.

@@hawkeye171 Most of them were politicians and people in upper management of companies where all they really did was talk to people all day as a job and keep the reputation of their company looking good. They were rich enough they didn't do hardly any work themselves, they would hire people to do most of it for them. I think the only exception was guys who worked in tech. Lot of very rich software devs in the Seattle area.

As someone who was a severe drug addict for 25 years and went to a government funded rehabilitation centre to finally get clean i can tell you this expensive rehab is a complete and utter joke. Purely created to rinse rich idiots of their money.

@@irgendeinname9256 It was a shock at first but turned out to be the best thing i ever did. They didn't let me lounge around, get massages and sit in spars like those expensive rehabs. They challenge my thoughts and behaviours and helped me become self-aware. They challenged me.They basically broke me down and built me back up which was painful but worth it. I also got physically fit and learnt how ro socialise without being high as a kite. I would recommend government funded rehabs before the private / expensive ones any day of the week.

Those people of this place (the owners..) are rolling in cash and it shows by the way the guy is dressed…. The Bentley on top of that …. Just pathetic.

As a med peer and biochem student, I am utterly disappointed in this so-called rehab centre, most of the treatments are homeopathic and non-improving. They just take your money and give nothing. Actually, they can also worsen the condition by ignoring the patients need and over treating. The therapist disappointed me, the gold patch disappointed me, everything disappointed me.

This is exactly like the sanatorium from the movie "A Cure For Wellness" and strange enough this place is located somewhere in the Swiss Alps too, exactly like in the movie. Give it a watch if you haven't,yet.

i think the "mommy/daddy" vibe of louis and the cook is the crux of the whole operation. the children of the ultra-rich are so often emotionally neglected by their parents, and self-medicate to ignore those mommy and daddy issues. so they come to paracelsus to deal with the self-medication and are greeted by the *extremely* archetypally perfect: the present father-figure and nurturing mother-figure. the hugs and tailored meals of the cook, the "if anytime in the night you need to talk, just come get me" thing with louis (and the fact that he asked her first and foremost about her relationship with her dad lol)... the testing is obviously bs, the spa is just a fancy spa, but the fake parents thing is genius.

As a recovered addict, I think escapism is the leading cause for addiction. The lifestyle this rehab makes you follow treats you like a victim, or even a child, rather than equipping you for getting through each day sober. It's like they are replacing one drug for another, creating a dependecy for this place. You can see it with the person they interviewed who uses the rehab support regularly. All the pseudo science they use feeds into that dependecy further by making you feel like there's so much you don't know about yourself, when in reality they are making it up as they go along to create more of that mystic environment. This place is truly bizarre and I genuinely feel bad for people using it.

It is so true though: "I run" this is true, he is the one who is responsible for the main part: therapy. "A charity" it is. What is money if your life is at risk. At that point any money for your life is a bargain. "Saving drowning fish", a fish is adapted to be in water, a person is adapted to be society, yet you are drowning. Or, if you like, here is another one. "I am running" he is highered, "a charity", 300k a month is no charity, "for drowning fish" with this much money you should be like a fish in the sea, but you are literally drowning in you own money, privilege and power. Sarcasm on every level. That guy is probably so proud of this quote.

@@EP-qi8ed just work there for a few years, until your contract is up (I doubt he's contracted to work for a decade but idk) and then once you're out you'll have enough money to catch back on anything you missed in life. Not to mention even if he wouldn't find another job that pays as much, I'm sure having "worked at the most expensive rehab place in the world" on your CV will act as a free ticket to many other secure therapist jobs with a pay above the average. (Even if frankly speaking from this video alone the man doesn't seem to be a top tier therapist at all lol) I'm a psych student and trust me if I had the chance to work there I wouldn't ever say no even if I know I would hate it after just a few months hahaha

I feel sad for him, I'm a therapist too, & its kinda unethical to have this kinda relationship with your client where you constantly see them 24/7, even rehab therapists who work on the perimeters are not around 24/7, they depart to thier homes by evening, sometimes some rehabs alternative with therapists so they don't feel overburdened. I wouldn't wanna see my client walking around all the time ffs, its disturbing for the client and myself, and therapists cannot completely be themselves around clients cause clients have always seen them as this put-together person & sometimes that image does more good in having them trust you, & share many things and placing that responsibility on you for them. So trust me when I say being a personal therapist is one of the hardest jobs in the world, having to contain yourself on this role, & always put together & placing others health and schedule & comfort on top of yours is super tiring. Its really unethical and unprofessional to be around like that, with no boundaries for your client.

I'm only a couple minutes in and I love Louis. He's soft spoken and gentle yet has jokes that only a dad would say. Charity for drowning fish? Sign me up! He also called himself daddy, which he has to know how that sounds. And he has to be even more bored than the clients. He's not allowed to leave and he can't have things like wine floating around to enjoy by himself. As for the treatment itself, yeah it's a lot of overkill, but some people need to have fancy "treatments" to make them feel like they are improving. It's like a placebo. True addicts though will benefit from this type of facility, because it removes you from your toxic lifestyle and forces you to spend time thinking about your past actions and how you want to correct them. Many addicts purposely go to rehab facilities in different countries (or states) just to get that physical change in surroundings to help push them in the right direction. She wasn't really ready to quit yet, or fully acknowledge her addiction, which is why she complained so much during her weekend there. Most people need at least a few weeks in rehab to even start to notice any changes.

My acupuncturist gave me ear tacks and doing it weekly totally changed my alcohol cravings!!! I had tried rehab and none of the approaches worked. I know everyone is different. Now I’m doing ketamine to reset my depression and trauma and it’s helped so far (just did my first treatment).

I've been through countless rehabs, from the best, fully accredited, facilities to state funded cest holes. The bottom line is that if you don't really want to get off of drugs and/or alcohol, you're not going to. That usually doesn't happen until you hit some sort of "rock bottom". It's as low as you want it to be, but if these people are able to spend over a quarter million a month to go to rehab, they are likely nowhere even close. I don't wish what I, or many others, have gone through to finally decide that they are truly done, but I'm just being honest. I've been "trying" to quit for over 30 years and only have nearly 5 years of continuous sobriety at the time of making this comment. Spending that amount of money on rehab is insanity in it's own right.

Exactly. It doesn't matter if you go to a place like this that cost 300 grand or a free government clinic. You will only get clean if you are ready and willing and are 100 percent committed to getting clean. My family spent years trying to get me clean through multiple different therapies and treatments. Through all of them all I could think about was getting out and getting a fix immediately. It wasn't until I hit my own rock bottom, where I lost everything and accepted that I was going to die if I didn't stop, that I was able to even start the process of getting clean. No offense but these places are also here for mental health. I don’t like this narrative of all these centers just being labeled “rehabs” for addicts .. They offer so many different things at these types of places. Addiction treatment in itself is bullshit. But that doesn’t mean every other form of “therapy” for *other problems* is also bullshit. That is when the price of a center actually comes into play because if you send someone to a sh*tty $200 “rehab” for sever anxiety, do you think they’re going to get the same out of it than if they were sent to a top facility in the world where they’re going to run test after test measuring everything in the patient to pin point the problem? I never understood why it bothers y’all so much If someone wants to waste *their money* to get the “best” mental health treatment for themselves. They’re the ones wasting their money on some BS not you. Addiction treatment only works if you’re willing to get clean - But that’s not how it works for all aspects of mental health therefore, these places are not useless ..

It's a bit of a dark comedy and, by the looks of the trailer, the doctor may be trying to take advantage of the richer clients. Not 100% but the show looks amazing. @Gods Bloody Hammer as a recovering substance user I can say that would make life alot more stressful. I would use it to by my mum a house and help others. That still doesn't deal with the root of the issue though, sure alot of addiction starts from a bad enviroment, but also mental illness, money doesn't fix mental illness.

really? what about if you have a Borderline client? It's the abandonment anxiety they're squelching... or identifying. therapists hate to deal with narcissistic and Cluster B personality disorders. It's a lot of work... and a lot of transference... and the therapists has to have really handled their own dark shadow... it takes years. Old men make great therapists for this reason. still... many have no idea about alcoholism and drug addiction mimicking Narcissism... so... it's always gonna go back to childhood... and 'daddy.' Mommy, too.

I’ve been on therapy for years, and the establishment and respect of limits and bondaries are a major part of therapy. I can’t imagine living with my psychiatrist. In fact, I make a point of knowing as little about him as possible.

@@luv2dancesalsa I would never live with my borderline client. Our long term goal is for her to be able to live independently. To achieve that we are working on her ability to live alone and to depend less on the people around her. Me living with her would only cause her to take steps back as she would fully rely on me and wouldn't learn anything. She would always be sheltered, never learn to face the situations that scare her. Therapy can at times be uncomfortable but it has to be or people would just be stuck.

I think while definitely skeptical. For someone that is facing serious alcohol and drug addiction it can provide a safe and comfortable zone where people have every minute planned out with structure and a support system to help them curb their usual bad habits and all the triggers of the world that force them into addiction

The CEO’s comment on how you’re never alone, I think that’s one line that stuck out to me. I can’t say from personal experience as none of my immediate family has been personally addicted to substances, but many of my family members have. With addiction, your support system is your family meaning those who care about what’s best for you. This is not to say your family should stop living their own lives and dedicate all their devotion to you, which is kinda what they are doing in the rehab facility. I think there are better ways of making the patient feel like they aren’t at home without setting them up for a future of codependency

I once had to go to hospital on holiday in the US and when they saw that I had great insurance coverage they were all over me like honey bees, wanting to take all sorts of tests etc. I was placed in a singular room with people attenting to me all the time although I wasn't in need of a bed at all. I could have done a doctors consultancy and left one hour later but I guess that would be less lucrative for them.

Okay so twice a month I always had diarrhoea and a bad day, and then bioresonance showed i had an intolerance for gluten. I still eat gluten sometimes but i cut 90% of what I used to have and I feel good now also my acne is fully gone. I thought bioresonance was bs before, but it worked for me.

Yah lets just judge the rest of the therapy sessions based on the minuscule effort they try to show you & that therapy cannot be worth that much. We put in a hell lot of effort to analyse your body language (thats a paid course and skill it doesn't come with the degree), have a one-on-one case history session, study your cognitive map and your behavior pattern from your past, research intensively which method could work for you, while also having to be constantly around you leaving our own mental health behind cause this is a job after all, spending countless other conversations with other specialists to see what would be the best for you in the session, designing your treatment plan and working with homeworks & spending so much money onto getting minimum 3 degrees and a doctorate, only to hear people with pre-conceived mentality like this talk about your profession. Edited: gottta clarify this video doesn't speak for the rest of us in the profession.

@@sakuranovaryan9261 A breakdown in therapy is seen as a good thing because you're "finally addressing your emotions", but when it's CAUSED by the therapy itself, it's not good. However, therapists are gonna make you think it's beneficial so their methods aren't questioned and they get your money. That being said, therapy isn't always bad but sometimes that's the case

I work at a drug/alcohol treatment center in the US and our clients are usually very poor. Most don’t even have any kind of insurance. We don’t have any of the luxuries found at this chic rehab. What we do have is a staff who is made up of mostly people who are in recovery themselves. We have a lot of love and compassion for our clients and a sincere desire to see them succeed in their sobriety and in life outside of the walls of our facility and we have a long list of success stories. All it takes to get sober and stay sober is motivation to stop using, a support system, willingness to change, and tenacity. You don’t need a $300,000/month luxury resort rehab. Treatment needs to hurt at least a little in order to get sober and stay sober. I know because I was a client almost 7 years ago.

Yes! I don't remember where I heard it from, but a well off individual once said that a state run or cheap rehab can do more good than a posh rehab because when you go to a posh rehab, you aren't faced with ANY of the realities of addiction. It's like a vacation. You may get therapy, doctors, and nice food, but it's not real life and it won't work in the "real world" if you don't have proper coping skills, and from what I see, why develop coping skills if you have a spa vacation for a rehab? I wouldn't have ever wanted to get sober if I got shipped off to a place like this, but then again, I dont have millions in the bank, so maybe my attitude would be different if I did.

It’s a scam. It’s not possible to heal allergies with a gold sticker. I guess it’s easier when you first make them up. And if you’re allergic to salmon you’re naturally also allergic to herring. I wish allergy tests were that easy. I have been tentatively diagnosed with multiple chemical sensitivity (a debated diagnosis in itself) because I get reactions to so many unusual things. If there was something like that with more accurate medical treatment that would help people like me with multiple chronic illnesses and health conditions, I feel like that may be worth it. Then again, buying a house, or getting a month or two of treatment...

Exorbitantly priced but definitely worth it if one can afford .I like the concept of the live in psychiatrist available as a fellow housemate , plus the psychiatrist seems pretty Good at his job ,the pampering sessions available in house not too bad either .
