Inside The $60 Million Gulfstream G600 Private Jet

The Gulfstream G600 was introduced as the successor to the G550. To set it up for success, the company has given the G600 a larger footprint, more powerful engines, and an extended range in addition to better features and amenities. Here is everything you need to know about the Gulfstream G600.
0:32 - Cabin
Step in and you're immediately met with a barrage of rich leathers and fine wood veneers. The plane can be configured with up to four living areas, and within them, there is space for up to 19 passengers and for up to 10 passengers to sleep. Since the G600 is designed for long intercontinental flights, there's a private rest compartment for the pilots, which features a plush reclining seat and a large entertainment screen. Next up is the plane's galley, complete with stone countertops and stone flooring.
The plane also has a complete in-flight entertainment system including high-speed Wi-Fi. The plane's interior can be controlled by touchscreens hidden behind sliding wood panels, and there are also buttons to control the plane's electric sunshade. Opposite the dining area is a large entertainment screen that neatly folds into the cabinetry.
Near the rear of the cabin is a large divan that can be converted into sleeping quarters, and opposite the divan is another pair of captain’s chairs. Behind the passenger cabin is a bathroom complete with a toilet, and there’s also a second bathroom at the front of the plane. The roomy baggage compartment is accessible during the flight through the aft lavatory and has additional floor and ceiling tracking to allow for flexible loading.
Furthermore, Gulfstream has been able to fit in 14 signature Gulfstream panoramic oval windows. These windows are “the largest in business aviation” and drown the interior in natural light.
Onboard passengers will sit on award-winning seats, with all seat controls on the inboard armrests and pockets sculpted into the interior arms for more hip room. These seats blend style, functionality, and comfort all into one.

The G600 is equipped with Gulfstream’s innovative Symmetry Flight Deck, which throws the old interface out the window and creates a thoroughly modern, touch-screen-based design using very shallow menus and a highly graphical interface. The new design incorporates advanced synthetic vision on an array of displays, and pilots will find each highly and easily configurable.
The system incorporates the latest head-up display technology with four times the resolution of Gulfstream’s Enhanced Vision System 2 for even easier use on lower landing minimums, as low as 100 feet or 30 meters above ground level.
Touch screens are everywhere. There are a total of 10 touch screens (several of them interchangeable) and touch-screen controllers. All of the screens are designed with pronounced edges to anchor pilots’ hands against if there’s turbulence, or just for more accurate touch performance. There are even three overhead touch-screen controllers.
The cockpit design revolves around the use of sidestick controllers. The fly-by-wire flight control system makes use of what Gulfstream terms active control sidesticks. The system makes use of highly intelligent force feedback to simulate control loads and simultaneously provide a virtual “linkage” between pilot and copilot controls, so there’s no need for software logic to verify which pilot has control of the aircraft. Both of them do.

Talking about performance, the G600 is powered by two rear-mounted Pratt & Whitney PW815GA engines with a TBO of 10,000 hours and with each one producing 15,680 lbs of thrust.
This combination is able to push the aircraft to a maximum cruise speed of 516 knots or Mach 0.90, and up to a maximum cruising altitude of 51,000 feet or 15.5 kilometers, with an average hourly fuel burn of 460 gallons or 1,740 liters per hour.
The G600 has a maximum range of 6,600 nautical miles, which is 7,600 miles or 12,220 kilometers.
The plane can take off in 5,700 feet or 1,740 meters, has a maximum rate of climb of 4,000 feet or 1,220 meters per minute, and a landing distance of 3,100 feet or 945 meters, and a maximum net payload of 6,540 lbs or 2,970 kilograms.
7:55 - Purchase and Charter Price
The base purchase price for the G600 is $58 million before options, and the charter price ranges from $10,000 to $12,000 per hour.

While the total fixed cost is roughly $750,000 per year, the average hourly operating cost is estimated at $5,000 to $5,400.

This aircraft (along with the G500) is basically grounded by the FAA due to a software issue causing hard landings in winds more than 15 knots.

I've got three customers here on field (two 600's, one 500) that are having to joggle around the AD. The FAA is still sitting on the software fix that's been in existence for a year and a half now, but likely it's the fallout from the MAX debacle that's got them nervous. Some folks with 80 million dollar assets sitting on the ground are getting slightly ticked. It's supposed to be approved by December.

@@hash2all The Flight Control System on the G5/600 is a constant monitor of both AP and Manual Mode. The system is designed to 'correct' or not-allow certain, exaggerated inputs from the crew even in manual flight (i.e. Stall Barrier Protection...think 737 MAX) In the instances of both the hard-landings that caused severe structural damage (prompting the AD), the crew was manually flying the approach in gusting/crosswind situations and the system was attempting to protect them from themselves from drastic control motions that the system didn't like. These newly fitted Gulfstream birds do have [Autoland, if you want to call it that, though the manuals do not reference anything to that], however, there are limitations to approach and landing in the FCC no matter what.

As I've said in numerous previous Gulfstream dream aircraft I'd like to be able to get a tour of one before I peg out but failing that I'd like to get a poster of any Gulfstream jet but being the numpty that I am I can't find one to buy. If anyone out there who has more than my two brain cells could point me in the right direction so I that I can buy one I'd be grateful, thank you.

Great plane! Look forward to flying on it in the future. The one thing I don't understand however is why so much emphasis is placed upon technology, particularly in the cockpit? What about manual redundancy? I would much prefer to trust a grizzled vet to fly the plan than a kid or an AI or auto pilot simulated flight or landing. Likewise, having the old analog and manual switches and levers is a comfort and shows the trust and expertise of both the pilots and the plan respectively. Too much emphasis is placed on technology and convenience to my liking and doesn't account for an EMP power supply blackout.

You're right. I think there's this trade-off between safety and fun/freedom, and as the years pass every aviation company will head towards more safety, until eventually the pilots unfortunately disappear and the planes rely 100% on a computer. Humans or computers? We always try to stay impartial and prefer to listen to the viewers.
