@@scottthompson9923 Ah, that joke never gets old :P We do not practice polygamy, though. Initially, when polygamy was practiced, it was for a multitude of reasons. Many of the women had been married with children but their husbands were murdered. As a woman at that time, they couldn't legally own land or work or do anything to provide. They had to have a man to take care of them. Also, they went to Utah which was not part of the United States at the time. There were no laws against it and if we're going to separate church and state, we should actually do so. Why is polygamy so frowned upon but polyamory is ok? Though I don't like the institution of polygamy myself, I understand it and the need at the time.

Evangelizing is illegal in Israel by anyone. The LDS church used to do proxy baptisms for victims of the Holocaust till they were told to stop (though they had to be told twice). Mormon missionaries go door to door to everyone else to tell them their religion is wrong (though they pretty much sugarcoat it these days). The fact that individual Mormons might be nice people doesn't change the fact that their dogma is without merit.

We are blessed to live among a vibrant Orthodox Jewish community. They are dear friends and we love their devotion to their faith.

I read this type of comment often on stories about Temples of the Church. I think that what is needed here is more understanding of the incredible humanitarian efforts that are the results of the free donations from the members of the church, in both time and money. Then I think, rather than being cynical about such money and attention going to structures like this, the response should be, “this must be a special church to build such structures that create a membership that is so freely giving of their time, talents and interests to helping others, non-member and member alike, all over the world.”

Hi Scott, if someone else considers something sacred, whether I agree with them or not, I like to treat it with respect and reverence. I love Jesus Christ and believe with all my heart that He is the Son of God, the Savior of the World. I hope others will respect that. I don't believe in all the tenets of Islam. However, I have a copy of the Koran, and I treat it with respect. I treat my Muslim friends with respect. I respect Hijabs and strive to understand why they are worn. I respect the great sacrifices it takes to fast during Ramadan and make pilgrimages to Mecca, even if I don't make the pilgrimage my self. I'm not Catholic, but I respect the sacrifices made at lent. I don't honor canonized saints like Catholics do, but I respect that they do; I understand it's sacred to them. I'm not Buddhist, but I'd never deface or disrespect (with my deeds or words) a statue of Buddha. I have in turn, in large measure, received much respect from my Muslim, Catholic, and Buddhist friends. I appreciate that respect, even while they disagree or consider my beliefs as nonsense. No Joe they don't. When the tours are conducted, the people going through put paper slippers over their shoes to protect the carpeting. After the tours are completed, the carpets are cleaned again before the Temple is rededicated. When we attend the Temple everyone has their own slippers.

However, that just creates a dependency. Helping people to become self-reliant is a better strategy. The Church has many programs to help members and friends become more financially stable.

I did, and all it was is offensive. The LDS church has helped my family and I several times, one of the most was when my husband was unemployed. The church helped us with food and occasionally keeping our home by helping with different things

And, the church has a no tolerance policy for both polygamy and child abuse, both of which would get the member excommunicated

Say what you want about how its fake or what not, but I guarantee you if you put aside those assumptions and read it fully with faith and having a longing to know more concerning Christ’s restored gospel, you will receive a testimony and God will manifest himself unto you (John 14:23). (Moroni 10:4). I would also like to add that the feeling that I know everyone who worthily goes and takes part of temple covenants feels is a feeling so profound and peaceful that its so difficult to put even in words. But, its a feeling that I can testify on, something that has built my testimony of this Church and, most importantly, of Jesus Christ. I really do hope you take the time to try reading it and feel God’s love for you. 👍

The people aren't scary. The religion is terrifying. Lesser women get to be part of some man's harem for all eternity. LDS women get to share their husbands with other women for all eternity. LDS men get to share their wives with the 'prophet' should he want them. A house of horrors.

"These people" are apostles of the LDS church, which is comparable to being a cardinal in the Roman Catholic Church. The difference is that the LDS clergy is made up of laymen; the 85 men who run the LDS church are doctors, lawyers, businessmen, research chemists, math professors and the like. Mormons don't believe in a professional and trained clergy because Jesus didn't need one in the first days of Christendom.

Interesting.. because the Covenants made there are simple and beautiful.. like chastity, sacrifice (like time, talents), etc. Nothing creepy, really. Even if you know the past, it's really not that weird.

1. The Temple is NOT called The Community of Christ Temple. 2. Your right. There are no weird, Masonic rites that happen there. I know very little about the Masonic Temples and rites. Nor do I really care to know about what goes inside of their temples. I think their more of a social group, than anything else. 3. Yes, you do have to have a Temple Recommend to enter the Temple after its been dedicated.

The modern LDS based out of Salt Lake City is not the original LDS, it is actually an offshoot sect that was led by Brigham Young.

They're both beautiful. It's not an either-or. Also, "masonic rites," if we want to call them that, aren't any more "weird" than eating bread and wine and calling it the flesh and blood of a Jewish rabbi that lived 2000 years ago. Symbols are given meaning by people.

The Community of Christ Church was called The Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints until they changed their to The Community of Christ Church. The Community of Christ Church has only ONE temple....period. They are located in Independence Missouri. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the Community of Christ Church are two separate churches. The Washington D.C Temple belongs to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints...NOT to the Community of Christ Church. Do not confuse us...EVER.

A lot of it is found in the Bible.. Exodus even explains the clothing, for example. The Covenants we make in the temple are simple, and also found in the scriptures. I'm glad we have the Open Houses so everyone can see them.

Christ never required a masonic Endowment Ceremony, a tithe, worthiness interview, church membership, etc. to get into heaven. You can trust Jesus.
