I have the exact same one, absolutely love it. Been using it for only a week and the bag is already getting close to half full. If that isn't impressive, I don't know what is. I've been using a Kirby Sentria for years, which I thought was an absolute monster. I've sold the modern R30D to several people and all of them seem to call up saying it quit sucking after about 2 weeks, and I tell them to check the bag and they always get wowed by it being jam packed full. They really clean!

@@HouseOfVacuums you're not kidding. I've been using a Shark NV752 which has been doing a great job picking up dirt and our dog's hair, even better than the Dyson we had before. BUT, this Riccar R30 is even better, it somehow just leaves our carpet feeling cleaner than the Shark, and the Shark has TONS of suction power and picks up TONS of dirt and debris.
@HouseOfVacuums
@HouseOfVacuums 3 жыл бұрын
Glad it is working so well for you! That is actually the biggest differentiator between the NV752 and the R30. The Shark has lots of suction with a puller-style motor, but doesn't have great air flow (CFM). Since the R30 has both a pusher and a puller motor with the Tandem Air design, it gives you both great airflow to the carpet and good suction for the tools. Cheers!

Yes, they certainly are. One thing that I can say for Tacony (Riccar's parent company) is that they are constantly revisioning to improve their products. Some would say "just produce it right the first time", but there is nothing worse than a company that THINKS they designed it right and won't fix issues on a product. Thanks for watching!

Great Video, Thanks for sharing. How maintenance heavy would you say these Riccar's are compared to a Sebo X series upright?
@HouseOfVacuums
@HouseOfVacuums 3 жыл бұрын
Interesting question! They are really two different animals in terms of design. I would say that the maintenance over the life of the vacuum would be easier with the Sebo. It is less complex and has a long history of reliability. That being said, the Riccar will out-clean the Sebo all day, every day. It is reliable, but not as simple as the Sebo which gives more potential failure points. The question is really whether or not you value ultimate cleaning or ultimate reliability more? Reliability, edge to Sebo. Cleaning, edge to Riccar. Although neither are bad in the opposite categories.

Thanks for watching and the kind words! Between those two options at the same price, you can flip a coin. The BRLP is slightly lighter and more maneuverable, while the RAD is definitely more powerful (that's saying a lot, because the BRLP will already beat pretty much everything on the market in terms of pickup). So pick according to your priorities... you really can't go wrong with either if they are in good shape.

Great info about this vacuum. Mine started making noise after I sucked up a stick. Took it apart and found a broken motor fan. It looks like an impeller which essentially is what it does. I have a mechanical background so I just needed to know where all the screws were to take it apart. information on the design was very interesting and I am now glad that I purchased this vacuum cleaner. It was about $600 and I hated spending that much but the engineering seems like it is worth the price. Thanks again for the video. I will watch it again when I get the part and put it back together. I have 3 screws left over after putting it back together without the new part.
@HouseOfVacuums
@HouseOfVacuums 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! It is definitely a great cleaning machine. But yes, you do need to watch what you vacuum up due to that impeller. Most of the time it is pretty durable, but it is possible for a foreign object to hit it just right and break it... especially as the impeller ages. There are a lot of screws in these beasts... definitely try to get those extras put where they need to go. Thanks Again!

Great video on thoroughness of product design and it’s a fantastic review of product quality for the machine of a Riccar upright. You answered many questions I had in my needs for floor care in entirety with your comments and opinions. I enjoyed watching this until the end even though this is not a machine that fits my requirements. Again, thanks for your investment in creating this information. This looks like a superb machine for wall to wall carper cleaning. I do have a wide variety of flooring surfaces, carpeting, expensive Persian rugs, entry door throw rugs and my home has sets of stairs leading to multiple levels. The home is 2650 square feet and I think I will be looking for a high quality canister vacuum where I can vary the suction and disengage the roller brush as needed. I’m replacing an old Miele Red Star that has provided me with 20+ years of service. A long retractable cord would be ideal. Which model canister vacuum cleaner can you point me to for my needs?
@HouseOfVacuums
@HouseOfVacuums 3 жыл бұрын
Hi there, thanks for the question! Miele still makes an excellent machine. A great replacement for the Red Star would be a Complete C3 HomeCare or Marin. If you know you like the Miele and their ecosystem, those would be two that I would look at. If you want something with an ultra-long cord, a huge bag and built like a tank, I would probably recommend that Sebo D4. The bag is larger than the Miele GN by quite a long shot. The cord is also 40 feet, which is the longest I have ever seen in a canister. By comparison, the high end Mieles have 24 feet of cord. AND if you buy from an authorized dealer you can extend your warranty to 10 years for free. Both would be great choices. Based on your desire for a long cord, I think the D4 deserves a hard look.

@HouseOfVacuums
@HouseOfVacuums 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment! The triple row brush strip is the unit that comes on the R40P Radiance, which is the larger version of this machine. It does provide more consistent contact with the floor which will result in even better cleaning. Unfortunately, that brushroll will not fit in this machine (R30 Brilliance). Hope that helps!

What's the purpose of the aluminum 3 row brush roll asxopposed to the chrome? I have the aluminum one on my machine, and personally I wish the bristles weren't so stiff. Idk, It feels like to me it's just going to cause more wear on the carpet.
@HouseOfVacuums
@HouseOfVacuums 2 жыл бұрын
It certainly depends on the carpet, but on normal synthetic cut-pile the three row is awesome. The reason why it is better than the chrome one is that the three rows of brushes allow for more consistent contact with the carpet, which brings with it better cleaning. Cheers!

Need some help troubleshooting. My wife said there was no suction at the hose. A quarter dropped through the hose. I took off the back panel and there were no obstructions. Suction on the brush roll end is fine. I assume the problem is the micro switch at the tools off and tools on knob.. Any insight?
@chewbacca7856
@chewbacca7856 3 жыл бұрын
It had something to do with the microswitch. I took it off and tested the switch with a voltmeter and it was good and then put it back on and then the suction from the hose worked. Couldn't find a replacement for it so if it does go bad in the future I will have to rig something up.
@HouseOfVacuums
@HouseOfVacuums 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and for the question! So, the microswitch is there to turn off your brushroll/direct air motor when tools are being used. The switch itself shouldn't effect whether or not there is suction. However, the valve that activates the switch is what diverts air from the normal pathway to the tools. If there was something stuck in that valve or if it was misaligned that could effect the suction from the tools. Am I understanding correctly that once you reassembled it that everything is working properly? Thanks!
@chewbacca7856
@chewbacca7856 3 жыл бұрын
@@HouseOfVacuums Yeah, i had taken it apart at least twice and I didn't get suction from the hose. My last-ditch effort was to check to see if the micro-switch at the tool/hose lever was working properly. All I did was take the switch off and then put it back on. Must have been miss-aligned for some reason because suction in the hose worked after that. go figure.

Fascinating design! Question… I notice the direct air motor is also driving the belt. Assuming there is a hard floor setting to turn the brush roll off, that would mean the direct air blower will be off too? If that’s the case, wouldn’t suction performance be reduced while in floor setting? Further more, is the direct air impeller allow to freewheel when the motor is off? Thanks for making this video, thoroughly enjoyed it. Love the background music even.
@HouseOfVacuums
@HouseOfVacuums 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Howard! You are correct that only the bypass motor is running when you are in "Floor" mode. However, it doesn't really present much of a problem on barefloor. A vacuum can pretty effectively clean bare floor while running at a much lower speed than on carpet, like canisters with speed controls. It works because you don't need all the power through carpet fiber and to the batting and subfloor. Glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for watching and the question!

I have a BRLP Brilliance I bought in 2011, agree that the cleaning is unmatched, however I just had to take in it for its 3rd, yes 3rd direct air motor (including the original) as it normally starts vibrating and buzzing as the fan hits the motor housing. Smells like burnt plastic too. so the original lasted from 2011-2015, the 2nd from 2015 to 2019, the third one 2019 to 2021. About 3-4 years on average. Seems more like a time/use dependent part with a designed life expectancy. We are meticulous about our home, we use it daily, but its only used on indoor carpet that has normal dirt, pet hair, etc. In each case it was not a result of picking anything up that damage the fan. So what gives, does this sound like tremendously bad luck, as our dealer says he has never seen this happen before. or is this just par for the course? These impellers seem to be junk, and the only replacement is the original Riccar direct air motor, and the entire assembly, correct? I need to do the replacements myself at this rate. Will I be happy with a Sebo mechanical after using this beast? considering one instead of replacing the direct air motor yet again.
@HouseOfVacuums
@HouseOfVacuums 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Melissa, thanks for the comment! I'm sorry to hear about the trouble you have encountered with that direct air motor. Certainly it is more prone to fan issues since debris does pass through the motor impeller. I think that I am a little surprised that it has required a new motor each time. Typically if there is an issue with the impeller (fan) you simply replace that part and not the whole motor assembly. There are only 3 instances that would require a motor replacement that I can think of. 1) Electrical failure 2) A crack or hole in the fan housing or 3) Bearing failure. With motors as new as yours I can't imagine that it is electrical failure or bearing. Is it loud when you run into issues? Has the dealer specifically said that it is the impellor or something else? I would hate to think it was just an impeller and you are being charged for a motor replacement instead. As to the question on the Sebo... that's a hard question. My favorite brand to sell, repair and own is Sebo. They are simply built like tanks. That being said, if my house had extensive carpets, I would still own either a Riccar Radiance (R40) or Brilliance (R30) because there is nothing that compete with them for carpet cleaning. That isn't to say the Sebo G4, X4 or X7 are bad. They are great machines, better filtration, more refined and more reliable. But if you are fanatical about carpet cleaning like I am, you may find that they fall a little short of the Riccar. Let me know that information I requested about the way it is failing and I'll see if I can give some further advice. Thanks!

I agree with you Melissa, after being talked into this Riccar being the greatest thing since sliced bread and tough as nails. 2 motor failures within 4 years I'm done!! I had a miele s7 upright before as a spare and is still going today but is now getting tired. I just ordered a sebo e3 as we are switching our flooring to more 75% hard floors. I'm hoping to finally get a 20 year vacuum with the sebo.

I have a Riccar Radiance .55+ from 2007. It's a good vacuum when it isn't clogged with cat hair. Twice a year I have to break it down and do a deep cleaning. Are the new Riccars any better, or should I expect twice yearly deep cleaning on any vacuum in a house with pets?
@HouseOfVacuums
@HouseOfVacuums Жыл бұрын
It definitely depends on the kind of hair. Certain types are more prone to wrapping around the fan than others. If you continue to have trouble with the wrapping, you may want to think about a motor bypass machine like the Sebo X7. I think that would be perhaps be a more reliable option.
@Ransomed77

@@HouseOfVacuums I've herd many good things about Sebo. Is there any reason to buy the Sebo over their commercial line? The Sebo x7 is $1,042 while the Windsor Sensor XP 12 is only $778.
@HouseOfVacuums
@HouseOfVacuums Жыл бұрын
Great question! There are some significant differences between the X7 and the XP12. The Sebo has the 10/7/7 warranty, the Windsor has 1 year. The Windsor is built on the older X4 platform, so it does not have a sealed final filter like the X7 or the headlight. The Windsor is also missing the updated brushroll removal mechanism that is easier to remove. Only you can say if all that is worth $260. For me it would be, because I would want the warranty, sealed final filter and headlight.

Some carpet blends don't generate as much static as the older carpets and some manufacturers put on anti-static coating. Maybe that's the case with your carpet? I know here in VA is much more difficult to get static from carpet than back home in CA, mostly due to the humidity.

Good question! I don't have a complete list of improvements, but all of them were fairly iterative. Usually it is small tweaks or changes in suppliers. For instance, at some point they changed the supplier of the circuit board and that resulted in a new model iteration. So while I can't say what the exact differences are, the more recent you make the model the more refined a product it will be. Hope that helps!
