I appreciate that he said 'assuming you don't have some disorder' when talking about making yourself happy. I'm schizoaffective, and part of that means I suffer from major depression; I recall hearing that all the time growing up - this idea that if I wasn't happy, it was somehow my own fault. I looked everywhere for happiness and couldn't find it, in an era when depression wasn't taken seriously by society and nobody ever thought to offer me antidepressants. Arthur Fleck had it right when he said "the worst part about being mentally ill, is everyone expecting you to behave like you're not" - it is devastating to one's self image to be unable to feel happiness and have everyone tell you that it's you're fault you're always miserable and you should just choose to feel better.

@@ao05851 thats not what he's saying. He's saying that everything in your own mind is still your own fault, disorder or no. The best course of action is to get help for it and not accept that this is how things just are going to be. When people have disorders they cannot help fighting by themselves, and they try all these things, most of the time it leads to drugs and more and more wild ways to cope with feelings and thoughts they have no way to control. That is why there is a whole medicl community and chemical changing prescriptions in order to fight this stuff. its a constantly evolving issue that changes sometimes by the day, so being pushed in the right direction is always a good idea...but a place like this where all they do is foist bs on you and do psuedo therapy then charge 10k for just the information is literally what these fitness and money gurus do all day everyday. it's bs and harmful.

@@mastershep11n74 i appreciate ur response but it looks like i responded to the wrong person. I absolutely agree with you. Been down many bad roads myself. There are tempting options i cant go more in depth because the machines have all my information. @@xenxander Youre not the same as @Maehedrose. Clinically depressed is not exactly the same as being schizoaffective. For you, X cause depression. For Mae, X cause schizoaffective which cause depression. Now you just have to change X and depression can go away or come back depending on how you change X. For Mae, they cant change being schizophrenia which makes it harder for them to make depression go away. Before doctors can fully understand the brain then, maybe do a quick google before starting the comment with "it is your own fault when you're not happy". It shows that you didnt even really understand this sentence "I appreciate that he said 'assuming you don't have some disorder' when talking about making yourself happy".

@Никита Вишерский ...but every time he opens his mouth about such things, its something that isn't unhygienic, or at least that unhygienic (being in the literal ocean near each other), or is something that comes along with equipment to clean the thing (a time he criticised someone for exercising at a gym without a shit comes to mind, even though gyms everywhere provide disinfectant spray and wipes to clean everything down after use). In short, his criticisms of hygiene literally stem from not knowing how hygiene works. It isn't a case of "he sucks at it but at least understands it" he just straight up doesn't understand it. You know his joke/catchphrase/ironic statement thing about "why would I wash my hands, my dick is clean"? That didn't start as a joke, he just started trying to be in on the joke when people started memeing on him living like that. Its the whole people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones thing.

The most alarming thing for me about this retreat is the breath-work part.. Because, there is actually some science behind it and the experience can be potentially quite dangerous for an individual. For those interested, i will explain a bit bellow. There is a technique, caled holotropic breathwork. Envisioned and by Stanislav Grof, Czech/American psychiatrist, a controversial figure in psychology. He created this technique after studying and experiencing "psychedelic" states of mind, both of himself, and others... The idea was to achieve similar "dreamlike" state while concious with more individual control over it, with a major contributing factor of set-seting diad. That's whats problematic here, which shall be later explained. Theory aside, now what actually happens to your body while breathing in a certain way for a longer period of time, wile also blindfolded, with powerful ambient music playing? You inhale, exhale, inflate and deflate, focusing on just one thing. 10 to 30 minutes like this. The level of oxygen in your bloodstream gets wild, your heartbeat above 150-180bpm, easily, veins open to the maximum, muscles shaking, exhausted, like you just ran for half an hour. But you're sitting down, or lying even. But thats just what happens to the body. The exces of oxygen, which such activity facilitates can mess with the brain as well, and maybe quite surprisingly, a person can actually achieve a state of mind in some ways quite similar to a psychedelic "trip". One of which, the extreme dependence of set and setting. In the case of the video, the set is just dissastrous in every possible way. And for the setting, that would depend on the individual, but based on the buzzword "connection", i think we can make an educated guess. Erases the whole individual, ironically so. It appears to be aproaching, almost of the border of hypnotic, which is another dreamlike state. Whoever says, this isnt cult, maybe, possibly. But the herd is there and so is the shepherd. If not a cult, definetelly culty.

Its impressive how people can be light years apart belief and faith wise. What its true for one is ridiculous to others. And the strangest of habits can be common for some. You ll aways find somewhere or someone to relate and belong to. What is really bad tho is to have a festival labeled "only for" millionaires. Or to have to pay $4 grand only to have a "safe" place where you can be / or discover yourself. Indifferent of the kind of help, valid or not, this festival is providing, it should be available outside of the label of what kind of money the people makes.

I 100% agree with Asmon here. Being creative is a better way to put it though. Because creativity doesn't mean creating somthing. It could be finding a solution, problem solving. Refining a task. It could be anything that the person makes changes to a satisfactory standard for themselves or others. I like to build stuff in games, but I rarely keep any of it. I'm more interested in the workflow it took to get to it. You make a lot of mistakes. This is good, because you can learn from mistakes. Education is a key word for almost anything, since to do anything we usually have to learn it. So combine your creativity with your abilities to learn and you do you. From this it is very likly you'll find what you enjoy most in life and where you gain the most pride. You will start to be happy.

To be fair, this "vice documentary" was completely bias from the beginning, per their usual content. The "journalist" did not go in with an open mind whatsoever, mocked every aspect of the conference, errr, festival or whatever it is, and the footage was clearly edited to portray their bias and forced perception. Personally, I know this was a bunch of bs. However, I'm sure for many of the attendees, much could be gained from it and thus money well spent for them. If I got to go, expenses paid... I would've enjoyed myself. I'm introverted and would benefit greatly from such a free spirited welcoming environment where I could socialize easier. Side note: asmon is great, I appreciate when he shows his open minded perspectives to things he doesn't exactly agree with. I just wish he was that way toward Christianity. He is very Ill informed regarding people's faith in Jesus, as is much of the world. Most of the things we get mocked for aren't even accurate. For example, dinosaurs. For the love of God, the existence of such creatures does not oppose the possibility of a God. The belief is that God created all life, the evidence is all around us. The only controversy is time. Some scientists say millions of years, yet, much of the scientific community now agrees its only thousands of years. If people would do their research they would understand that it is a leading controversy regarding current dating methods, and the evidence each different method produces. Some scientists are in fact holding onto millions of years for dear life, to the point where there responses to new facts come across as desperate, one; because it would prove them wrong to say otherwise (science is constantly wrong, throughout each decade "facts" are shown to be incorrect with new "facts" and that is a fact), and two it serves an agenda. Without the "millions" paradigm, dating methods become much more accurate. Side note complete 😅👍

34:56 I think this sort of guilt or insecurity that comes from being very successful/wealthy has less to do with having done "evil" shit to achieve it and more to do with just how much of that success is also attributable to luck, circumstance, and all sorts of other factors that are entirely out of their control. A ton of extremely successful people are enamored with the idea of being self-made, it becomes part of their identity.

@@cosmicllama6910 I mean most 'rich' people are not musk, they aren't billionaires, they're just people who save up money over time and accumulate assets. Wealth is mostly genes + luck that is outside your home.

I somewhat agree with you, but the thing is, 90% of people in a country like the US will study 15+ years to get a job, than spend on average 60% of their time when they are awake, either going to the job, coming back from it, or working, and most people still spend a good chunk of their time out of work thinking about work, so it isn't that strange to start asking what the person do, because for most people, a job is at least half if not two thirds of their lives, until they are 70 years old.

I don't see a problem with that at all. When you don't know anything about someone, it's a quick way to get an idea of what they like and spend their time doing, and what they are (presumably) good at. I think when they say it's lonely at the top, it's in reference to the (often real) idea that when you have "made it" to the top, you will suddenly have people clamoring to bring you down and/or get what you have so you have to be more careful who you let into your close company. That's the spirit of the phrase anyway. Example would be athletes who go pro, get millions of dollars, then suddenly their long lost father or childhood friends come knocking and more often than not either try to cheat them or drag them into some stuff they shouldn't be involved in.
