Big fan of David, not only because he is a fellow Romanian, but because of what he promotes to the younger generations, especially here in Romania! To think about how mysterious a guy like Alex was 20 odd years ago when I was swimming; how much we coveted any magazine or media we could find to learn more about the art of swimming from the big guys… and here he is, just having a chat and discussing in detail about the most incredible male talent in the sport today. Amazing Brett. Thanks for bringing this to us swimming fans.

That was my exact experience with trying to follow swimming in general in the mid to late 90s...and Popov was particularly elusive. I taped the 96 Atlanta games on a VHS and I had Popov's picture on my wall (taken from a magazine). I literally remember at the time using Metacrawler or Yahoo (not even Google) and only being able to find like five pictures on the internet of him swimming.

@duke007x3 Жыл бұрын
sure, politic is not sport. They can support Putin and support killing all the Ukrainians. It's not a problem, let them compete in the world arena. 100 rockets per day from Russia to Ukraine is also ok, come on russian guys go all over the world, train, travel, compete it's no your war, it's just mr putin killing kids in Ukraine. Fantastic logic BlueBottle. Hope you will never be in such situation like million of ukrainians. Just one simple question. What simple people From russia did to stop war? Including A. Popov. They did nothing, they support this war, they take guns and come to ukraine to kill people. Would you compete with such people? Good luck.
@duke007x3 Жыл бұрын
And by the way Popov is a great swimmer and his technique is amazing. Really like this swimmer in past. But let be honest all russian people are part of putins regime. As you may know they took part from Georgia in 2008 and what they do now in 2022? Run to Georgia because of war in Ukraine(Of course they even can't say that it's a war, they call it special operation.) Fantastic! occupy territory of other country and then just go ask georgian people for a host. Why don't they ask Putin to stop the war?

I don't see him as the best 50m swimmer. BUT, He is still going to be a great 400/800 m swimmer! He is already better than Popov, and he is going to be better than Hackett, Thorpe and the great mid distance swimmers.
