I bought the One X due to the overall workflow and on the go “app flow.” Additionally, the constant update versus the uncertainly of the Fusion’s future. Out of the camera video quality, I do prefer the look GoPro is able to achieve as well as their superior sound quality. But thankfully the One X performs well enough that it isn’t a deal break in a those area. And where it pulls away from the Fusion is just multiple +++ for the Insta360 One X IMHO. I do wonder if Vuze XR can outperform the One X. Looking forward to that comparison.

Great video for those of use wanting to purchase either one but cannot make up our minds which one. Yes I looked at the Go Pro Fusion this morning since I could put it on my charge account at Target. I could also put my Insta360 One X on my charge account at Amazon but brought another Insta360 Air in case my first one go bonkers while I am out and about using it on a photo shoot - good to have a back up. I will still think on saving up on a Insta360 One X even after watching this comparison video, because the software of the Go Pro Fusion seems more difficult to use. You are the best instructor on KZfaq, on the same level as Ben, you are more school teacher while he is more entertainer. I love you both. Thanks Mic - really appreciate all your efforts as always! It's amazing what you put into these reviews and comparison videos - I'm sure most folks in the 360 community really appreciated it! I was surprised at the tie you gave for CA, the image you showed for this seemed significantly better on the Fusion (one my screen at least). Things like the red dot of doom, lack of spatial audio, and quite a bit worse minimum stitching distance on the One X are hard to ignore for serious (perhaps even professional) use - as is the better colour rendition straight out of the camera for the Fusion. Would you agree? It's also noticeable that for several of the things the Fusion wins on, you go one to say that the One X may improve in the future. This is good to hear that Insta360 are likely to continue to support their camera whereas the likelihood is that GoPro will not, however another perspective on this (as a Pro1 user) is that Insta360 have again launched a product that's still in BETA mode, and some folks will get frustrated when finding bugs if they're using the camera for anything other than casual fun / learning. This point could be debated ad nauseam, and it's not my intention to open up a can of worms - but I just wanted to offer the alternative point of view for balance, which I know you welcome. I definitely liked the better stablisation and low light performance on the One X, but I've had great real world first hand experience in race cars with the Fusion, so although my One X arrived a few days ago I don't think I'll be opening it, and will probably return it for now. If Insta360 improve the processing / stitching time to be significantly faster than Fusion Studio, and they improve the minimum stitch distance to be closer to the GoPro then I might change my mind, but the risk of that red dot making it's way into a critical area of the footage (eg. on a face) still worry me, and I doubt too much can be done to get around this in software (true?). Anyway, thanks again for all your hard work - it really helps to take the guess work out of making 360 camera purchasing decisions, as spec sheets alone often only tell half the story - even if that's what marketing teams focus on. Oh, one last thing, it'd be interesting to see the 2 cameras tested in hot conditions when doing longer takes - I recently had a problem with the Fusion when doing this (the camera turned itself off just as 2 cheetah on a wildlife reserve were coming into view - gutted!), so it feels we're still a few generations of 360 camera technology away from really robust & reliable tools...? Hopefully I'm wrong.

This is such an underrated channel, Love the Content, I have the Fusion and I’m loving it, mobile overcapture for video is good and I still use it sometimes for Instagram and Facebook, when I post on KZfaq I use the GoPro Priemere Plugins which are good as well, had the Insta for a couple weeks, loved the app, but didn’t like that you had to have a separate waterproof Case for water sports, and the durability is less than the Fusion for me. Can’t wait what’s in store for the Future.

Wow, it’s a really precise in-depth comparison. My one x is on the way, and i’m very excited about it to try to shoot travel videos (especially compared to my Madv360, I’ve used most of the times during traveling). I think it’s very important to have a balanced image quality both on the main directions and near the stichlines, and i like the way you pointed at this problem with go pro fusion. Awesome job. I am wondering if the detail visible on the roofs (shingle-lines) is not a factor simply of contrast/color differentiation, because my eye was drawn to the detail on the actual top edge of the roof, and that particular edge is more clear on the 360 1x... the shingle caps create a saw-tooth design which the fusion seems to "smooth over". Pretty hard to call that one, perhaps it depends on what type of details we need to see. Thanks for making the comprehensive comparison!

Mic, I just got the fusion, and compared it to the yi360. Yes it is more detailed, but as you also pointed out at the edge or towards the stitch, the fusion gets really blurry. So I would say instead of 360 its more a 320 view angle that is sharp. But may I ask you a question, how did you attach the fusion to the Mavic Pro. I wanted to do that with the yi4K+, but wasn't sure where to attach it. So when I saw you attaching the fusion I would love some pictures of where and how you attached it to the Mavic Pro. Great in depth comparison. I already use the gopro hero 7 so i was leaning towards the fusion...but after watching your video & others, i am pretty much sold on the insta 360 one x now. The fusion may have slightly better video quality, but the insta 360 is so much more editing friendly. Especially for someone like me who uses mostly a mobile work flow. I wonder how editing insta 360 footage on luma fusion software on an ipad pro will be?

Hi Mic, many thanks, another great video. I have heard that you can not edit on the phone and export in full 5.7k. Is that true now and if so is there likely to be a fw upgrade in the future? Also I really like the motion blur effect for speed ramping. Is this available on the insta 360 desktop app for Mac or could it be done in Final Cut Pro perhaps? Awesome comparison Great detail I have a Fusion and love it But the ability to edit without stitching first is awesome, and I don't have to use a special go pro mount and it fits better in my pocket. You might have instigated a hit to my pocketbook. Sounds like it might be worth it.

Price has dropped to $361 on Amazon :) Stock apparently due in next week. About to place my order on Amazon but I'm wondering about the blind spot between lenses where you can hide stuff like lights and battery pack. As the lenses are pretty close together will I still be able to mount a credit card sized light like the Aputure AL-M9 to the tripod pole using a pole super clamp and a cold shoe mount.

Do you remember the days when you brought a white board along to get proper white balance control? Would it make sense with Insta 360 One X to bring a color board along always at the start the recording (with a few seconds of the board in the scene). So when you go into post you've got the board to establish the correct color adjustments?

Hi Mic, You rock! Such a comprehensive and detailed video comparing the 1X and Fusion. I’ve been confused to choose between 1X vs. Fusion vs. Hero 7. My use will be mostly focusing on high quality video but I want the versatility and form factor (DSLRs are not). But I am a beginner and want to work my way up. Can you answer the following questions/concerns: 1X: 1) does 1X have a charging port to use with a power bank? 2) how do you improve the audio quality on 1X especially in windy condition? Fusion: 1) is the app and desktop software good enough at this point if Gopro decides to stop further updates and/or next gen release (i.e. Fusion 2)? 2) how’s the workflow on app and desktop. I hear that it takes forever and cumbersome for beginners but good for professionals who does filming for a living and accept the wait time and/or have more experience and skills to edit? Lastly, I see Ebay has 1X between $350-$400; Fusion at $400-$450; and Hero 7 at $330-$400. Given that the Fusion and Hero 7 prices are comparable, what would you recommend for me to buy? My One X on occasions wobbles or spins around both problems happen when it is on a tripod. Probably about one out of six shoots. Which makes sticking a power point slide in the video and long and tedious process. It also often loses its heading and produces uncorrectable horizon shifts. but when it works, it's worth it. I have two working.

There seems to be a Major problem with the Insta 360 One-X that isnt being made public. It only effects any HTC Vive (Regular) VR users that plan on Capturing 360 Video and running it through their VR Headset. It cant be done ! If I am mistaken, I would be realy happy to hear how, but neither Insta or Vive have a solution at the moment. I understand you can run the two INSV files through Insta360 Studio 2019 and then export the ".insv" video to a traditional 2:1 panoramic mp4 video for use with a regular “HTC Vive VR”. This seems like a lot of extra work and I am a little dubious about the final VR Quality ......?

Great video, the best thing about the One X, and the reason I decided to get it, is that instapro does a great job updating its firmware and can almost guaranteed that the One X have already improved since this review., Plus it’s cheaper.

Hi and just started playing around with it to see how intuitive it is. I used it indoors and I'm not sure the card is keeping up as the video came out with a lot of artifacts and blurring at times. The raw footage otherwise was ok for indoors, but once I rendered it inside the program, you really saw how grainy the footage was. It played on my player( movies and tv win10). It automatically recognized the mp4 as a 360 video and allowed me to move around the video. Pretty neat! However very grainy. i played it with VLC and did not allow me to view it as 360, but the footage was much less grainy, my guess is that there was no "zoom factor" to show just one angle. finally and most importantly, I brought it into Adobe Premiere, and although the program stitched it as an Mp4, it looked like the raw video not allowing me to move around. So if the Insta 360 program does not stitch it for Premiere, then I won't be able to use the camera. How do you edit this?

if we compare at images sides 1:47 vs 1:52 we see the fusion lens is wider (220 degrees ?) than the onex 200 degrees, this is the photographical explanation for your "more compressed nearest paving" and the obvious reason why the borders (near the stitch line) are much blurrier on gopro fusion.
