I saw this product in person but what worries me the most is that I have an iPhone and this has an Android operating system. Yes CarPlay works but am curious about long term use. I also actually wheel my Tacoma so I’d love to see a video of this working on a trail with obstacles. Preferably hooked up to an iPhone

You can check out a couple of our videos here in our channel when I took our Jeep out wheeling. CarPlay wouldn’t be affected by where you were driving. It couldn’t care less if it’s street or dirt.

I saw in a different video from like 5 months ago where you say that you're working on a new Android radio interface / launcher and maybe some improvements to your other included apps as well. Is there any info on how soon we can expect to see the release of that? Are we looking at a few months, a year, more than a year? Thanks.

So the new UI is still under development and may be scratched. It generating limitations to how we can customize apps now. Which isn’t what we want. So there is no time line currently.

We don’t the process is very basic, something that has come with the process of installing aftermarket radios for near 20 years. So we don’t spend the time on it. If you check our old Gen 2 Ram install video I do think I have it on frame while I do it.

I would love for you to talk to one of the thousands of folks that love our radios. 99% of the complaints are because they purchased the radio and wouldn’t return to their dealer for help. They tried diy install and didn’t do it right and wouldn’t go ask their dealer for help. We only sell business to businesses so we don’t have enough tech support for end users. We have support for our dealers though. Maybe check out one of our dealers and see one in person.

What reviews? This particular model came out like a month ago. Reviews for other linkswell models are largely irrelevant because the design and the components are not exactly the same between each model. Are you sure that you're not confusing this with the more cheaply built Phoenix Automotive t-style radios?

The only real annoyances that I haven't been able to get rid of with the unit at this point are that when I press the up and down physical buttons to change the temperature the entire climate screen pops up which is annoying because the temps are displayed at the bottom so I don't need the whole climate screen to be up. I wish there were options to toggle when the climate screen is automatically opened while pressing buttons. It makes sense for some of them but not for all. The fan buttons don't open the whole climate screen, which is nice because that would be unnecessary. I just wish we had some control over how that behaves for all of the physical buttons. It would also be nice to be able to control the timeout for that screen automatically closing itself after a button is pressed. It's currently longer than I would like. The lack of configuration options for this stuff is frustrating. Another annoyance is if I install Spotify on the radio it interferes with Spotify when I'm in android auto because it insists on playing from the one installed on the radio even when I manually close out of it. I'm hoping I can figure out a way to work around that eventually. For now I had to uninstall spotify from the radio and just use it in android auto exclusively. Oh, and the last one is that the voice button on the steering wheel of the tacoma acts as a mute button instead of a voice button for some reason (should trigger the voice assistant) and there doesn't appear to be any way to change that.

So the climate controls function differently on Gen 6/XL. They don’t pop up unless you ask them too. Nothing we can change on Generations prior at this point due to hardware specifications. How Android Auto handles a hand off of an app is not really much we can change. I don’t think that’s an issue with the system but a conflict on how Android Auto handles hand offs. Genuinely there aren’t other radios that allow Spotify to be its own app on the radio itself. All others either remote control the app from the phone or it’s controlled in Android Auto/ CarPaly. So in the base programming of Android Auto there may be missing a way for it to hand off (Android Auto is an app on the phone itself not anything we or any other aftermarket company make, we all just control what the phone is programmed to allow.) so the app itself may not be able to hand off control when Android Auto is active. Again because no other radio allows the app to be installed and functioning in its own. Might not be a thing that can happen because of Android Auto. Not for sure, but that’s my initial guess because I can do it with CarPlay on the radio.

Pressing most of the physical climate control buttons causes the entire climate screen to automatically open and then I can either swipe it away or wait for it to auto close after like 15 seconds or something. Only certain buttons don't open the climate screen such as the fan level buttons. Again this is on the gen6 unit shown in the video. I'm saying that it would be nice to have some config options to control when the climate screen gets automatically opened for each physical button and another config option to control how quickly the screen automatically closes after being automatically opened. Having to swipe that climate screen away each time I press a physical button to get back to my gps view while driving gets old pretty quickly.

That I can’t say. Would depend how they make it work and control. We have a front camera input that you can access whenever that will work with a standard camera. So we can do an anytime front camera. But I can’t say how it will work with that specific one based on how they work.

I am definitely interested in one of these, I am very interested to see this being used in real world by reviewers. Playing with it while driving, climate controls, while using the radio, off roading whats the interface feel like while driving? etc etc. Does the Climate Control lock you out of the rest of the screens if it is being used? or can you still play with the radio and change channels or cameras etc? @@LinksWellInc

@@CANheSE3me so this unit was installed into one of the OnX Offroad trail mappers trucks. So it will get some real deal trail time. I have used ours in our Jeep on lots of trails had no issues at all. You can watch some of our other videos showing the functions. This will do the same. Climate controls don’t change the source and how it functions. The climate controls function as an overlay screen to the source.

Yeah, I am very interested in the product I just would really like to see this unit in particular on the taco be reviewed and used in real world. I really look forward to seeing it. It being about a $1700 USD product it's a big price to pay. But I think the luxury and functionality it brings is worth it, as long as it function as good as advertised. My 2023 Taco needs this. Fingers crossed reviews come out soon and I can make a decision! @@LinksWellInc

Please can y’all do a big screen 12.1” or 13” horizontal that has all the features of a vertical? The rotating screens don’t have all the features of the T-Style.

@@genio1981 so you buy from us, we don’t have the staff to help you with install. Then you are upset because we can’t help you. So, we hire enough techs to help end users, so we raise the price to cover those cost, now no one buys the radio. Having authorized dealers is the best way to be sure all customers who purchase our radios are supported the best way possible. If that is too frustrating for you. It’s a bummer, but it is still the best way for us to make sure our customers are taken care of.

So it isn’t a tablet itself. It’s a completely built system. Radio, preamp, climate controls all integrated and built in with the tablet.

@@rawdmon as a base, yes. But it’s been Frankensteined (best way I can describe it) So we are not just sticking a tablet into a plastic kit. But it’s been gutted and added to so we can do all the CanBus, Climate Controls, and Radio features.

So a lot of things…. Mostly it’s the R&D work we do and the internal components we use. We use much high quality screens, PreAmp (Audio processors), Bluetooth Chips, CanBus interfacing, and so on. We do our testing and developing here in the states. We also because we ate based here in the US and have over 1,000 US dealers, so our dealer support is much better. Having support here in the states for our dealers Mon-Friday during working hours. The companies selling on Amazon do not have local support and will be using much cheaper components. It’s the whole “You get what you pay for” theme.

I don’t understand what you are asking. It has the standard 40x4 internal amp. It has 6 preouts (front, rear, sub) It also has Optical TOSLYNK output.

There is a pigtail that the SIM Card goes into on the back. I show it in a video on our channel.

@@LinksWellInc I had one of these installed in my truck today and I was disappointed to find that the pigtail for the sim card is super short so it can't be run to the glove box meaning I need to take the entire radio out just to put the sim card in once I have it. Not the best design choice.

@@rawdmon so that came from a limitation on the SIM Card readers. We made it as long as we could that the SIM Card would still work. Did that trying multiple options out there. This was the longest we could make it with the available components. I am sure as time passes technology will get better and we can switch to ESim or there will be a better card reader available that we can extend more. For future generations. But car stereos that offer you full SIM Card options is not the normal. Some factory trucks have built in WiFi, but not built into a radio to use for Internet purposes. So the parts available on the market for us to use to build, is quite slim but slowly growing.

@@LinksWellInc The Phoenix Auto radio for the tacoma which is built with cheaper components has a SIM card pigtail that's long enough to route to the glove compartment and does work. No idea what kind of hardware they use for that but it's evidently possible to do somehow.

@@robertbenefield4496 so no aftermarket radio retains factory microphones. That is just the way it works. As for phone not connecting that hasn’t been an issue at all. We do wireless CarPlay/Android Auto. So the issue with usb hand off is no longer a thing. But what you gain with our radios is far more than phone interface. If you check out other videos on our channel you can see how to download Apps like Netflix, OnX Offroad, KZfaq, LED light controllers, RING doorbell and so many others.

Nope. You should keep your factory radio and climate controls because that is what you feel is most important. It’s called a free market. You don’t like our solution, don’t purchase it. We are ok with that.

Even the OEM "physical" climate controls are all digital (ones and zeroes being sent over a wire), so it's not exactly difficult for after market stuff to tap in to that and work just as well. If this isn't your cup of tea no one is forcing you to buy it.
