Glad to see you don't need a drill press for this. I have a 20" A I'd like to do this to, and I don't own a drill press.

You probably should do it that way, but I did it without because that’s what I have available to me.

I like the sizzle from the rivets & I think that cymbal sounds nice with brushes. I’ll bet it really roars with a mallet roll.

Another great video. I experimented rivets last year for a few of my cymbals. Bought the rivets on Amazon too and were super cheap. I had a 22" China and an 18" Symphonic Crash that had rivet holes but were missing a few of the actual rivets. Very easy to install and was happy to complete the cymbals! But the sizzler using ceiling fan chain is also an option. I made a video of it on my channel a LONG time ago and it was pretty fun.

Great work on the rivet install. It already sounded nice before, but after was really cool. Perfect for the jazz thing. Speaking of the jazz thing, is there a reason your snare is so overly dampened? Those toms were singing, but the snare sounded a bit choked, to my ears. Wondering if there was a sound you were going for? Good work, again, on those rivets. Bosphorus makes incredible cymbals, and this one (and the others on the kit!) are no exception. Cheers.

It's probably just a personal preference, but I like a very articulate/dry snare sound so that I can get away with more dense playing on there and not loose clarity. Really just a personal choice, not some sort of standard jazz approach I'd say.

Thanks for the great instructional video, Mike, as I really like seeing new ideas rather than just hearing about them. When I was a kid in the mid 60’s, I was in a band, and at that time there was a gadget called a Sizzler that I used for the same sound. It was a piece of aluminum or some other very lightweight metal that was threaded, so it just was spun onto the top of the cymbal stand. It had little rivets at each end that laid right on the cymbal, and they sizzled when the cymbal was hit. Each end of this arm had an elbow joint which allowed me to fold it up, so it didn’t sizzle if I just wanted the regular sound, and it folded back down for the sizzle sound. I have looked for these recently but wasn’t successful in finding any. It produced a great sound. Anyway, thanks for you video. I can’t wait to see what is next for all of us.

have you tried to tie the end of a sizzle chain with a light weight fishing line with loose loop the cymbal stand ? Keep the sizzle chain loose, but won't fall into the holes.
@malonedrum

Like tie it around the cymbal, and loop it down below the cymbal on the stand?
@deaffatalbruno
@deaffatalbruno Жыл бұрын
@@malonedrum yup, if you knot it so u slide it up down u the line to change loop size u can adjust the tension. Might not work well if u crash the cymbal very hard. but for lighter work its fine.

As a vintage drum collector, with around 500 drums and 100 cymbals, this is honestly one of the first times I really think rivets made a cymbal sound better, .... and since it's not vintage and already full of holes, ignore the haters!

Exactly, I’m usually not into rivets in a cymbal over a chain, but in this case, rivets win.
