Installed them but used different hardware. I used rivnuts but used all-thread to make a custom length studs. I ran the all-thread until it bottomed out in the A-pillar and cut to the length i needed to mount the handle. Then I locked the stud with a jam nut (spaced the handle out for trim too). After you mount the handle it's solid and I can pull all 265lbs of myself into the jeep without any flex.

Wow what a legitimate coincidence! Just yesterday i was working on my rig and I said you know what, it’s bout time I put a handle on the driver side. I have two handles on the passenger side, a stock handle and another nice sturdy handle. But I don’t have anything at all on the driver side

Stepped drill bits work extremely well for plastic

The best place for the passenger to place their hands is across their body and grab the seat bent with only the fingers. Left hand to the shoulder strap and right hand down to the lap belt. This keeps the limbs away from crumple zones or just cross the body. Just don't grip to a fist, just wrap the fingers to the second knuckle. More people injure their arms by reaching to the roof or door during a roll or side impact. Love the videos guys. Would any of you want to do a jeep commander overlanding set up? The commanders are relatively cheapish. Maybe a solid front axle swap with lockers? Lift kits and drive shafts? I love the xjs but I need more room. I feel there would be a bigger following if there was more of an example of the capability of the commander. When you look up the commander there are very few videos of aftermarket projects on them.

I love the split personality of you drill setup. You have a high end Milwaukee Fuel drill but use the cheap Harbor Freight drill bits. I must say the it looks like it was a pain in a$$ to install. Nice job in dealing with it though, and a nice upgrade to your rig.

I’ve never had a super high end set of bits but I have a nice cobalt Milwaukee set though it’s not graduated nearly as finely as the HF kit so it’s always good to have a cheap set on hand

Is that weatherstripping on the leading edge of the rear door? I have found that wasps love crawling between the crack between the doors and making little nests on the hinges. Where can I get this weatherstrip? Thanks!

Having not read the instructions or even owning an XJ it seems odd they mount spaced off the A pillar. You sure they aren’t supposed to mount directly to it and then slot the trim so the handle can extend out? Just asking so don’t flame me!

I think I would outline the handles and cut it out with a dremel so the plastic has to way of breaking.

How about a measurement from the top of the trim or other reference point to the top bolt mount position, drill the plastic with a step bit a size or 2 larger than the rivnut requires (that will be covered by the handle mount in the end), then continue through the metal with the correct size bit? Add a spacer onto the bolts under the plastic and tighten away. Seems like there'd be no need to remove the trim. I'd like these but looks like a PITA. Oh, and use a real rivnut tool to ease the process. Maybe I'm dreaming..

So, you are not fitting grab handles, you are fitting camera mounts. I drive a Holden/Isuzu which was built for offroad, the passenger has 3 grab handles, 1 on the door pillar, 1 above the door and one on the centre console and the driver has 2 (not the centre console) as STANDARD. All offroad vehicles should come with these so you need not worry about trivial things and you can concentrate on other more important things than car companies cutting corners to save money. Of course, this also means that you don't have to modify the trim or drill holes into it because they are done in the factory with decent mounts.

Poor installation design, in my opinion. These XJ plastic pieces are brittle and delicate. You are just asking for it to crack by sandwiching this grab handle against it. Also, there should have been spacers between the plastic and pillar because it's smashing the plastic flat under the handle. I say these are ok if you don't care what it looks like and just need grab handles. Otherwise, installation design fail....

I know that, I did it the way the instructions say to so that this is something everyone can follow without a tool that costs almost as much as the part you’re installing.

God THOR's website sucks real bad. Cant sort or find anything. How are you a business in 2020 with a garbage website? You even search "handle" and the product doesnt even show up. Pretty embarrassing.
