Great video, Billy. My name is Shane, and I've been following your videos for a few weeks now. Found you from your AOL installations in 2015 videos. You and I have a lot in common regarding nostalgia and the way we view computers, operating systems, AOL, icon arrangements (I too need to keep My Computer in the upper left corner of the desktop), and several other things. Hope to get the chance to speak with you soon. I'll write you a more in depth letter. But like you, I also need to get to bed as I also have church in the morning. Fellow Christian here also. Let's talk soon. Take care. :)

I agree with you about where the "My Computer" icon should go. Also I agree that XP is timeless. I just cannot believe for a second that Microsoft abandoned it :( Oh well, nice video and nice computer Mr. Coore

X P still rocks. I would loved to have kept SP4 with it's extension updater, but when I ran my regular check disk routine (something I do once every week) ...much to my dismay, it went into an infinite loop refusing to boot to desk top and repeatedly checking the disk. This forced me to reformat the C drive and do a fresh install of the OS.....Wasn't happy!

Tip Billy. What about putting your USB's in one place when not using them. It can help so much and when your finished using a UsB putting back where it should be will be easy to find.

Hi. As a matter a fact, I got the same laptop couple days ago. I searched youtube and find 2 klip of yours about it. I upgraded it with 512 Mb (2x256 Mb on 133 MHz) DDR memory. And of course. I did fresh install of Win XP professional. I must say, only problem till now is playing a game "Plants vs Zombies". After second level it just brakes - BSOD appears and I had to move 1 stick of memory and later put it back again.

I had a cousin who ran Windows 7 on a Dell Latitude C610 which I believe was slightly before this laptop? She used it up until about 2011 or maybe 2012 as her main laptop (before that a ThinkPad 600X until about 2005, which had Windows 2000)

I acquired on of these sometime last year. I was going to offer to sell it to you when you said something about looking for one. But then you had bought one so that idea failed. But later on i dropped the laptop, then the hard drive fell out and the optical drive to but i got the hard drive back in the screen was cracked but it still worked.

+Seth Harris I also made a video of running 2000 on it with the mods to make modern stuff work. I demonstrated watching youtube on it and going to websites.

+Roadgeek I tried win98 on my 2650 but i could not find any graphics drivers that would work. I did not have any IRQ errors though. My 2650 had Nvidia geforce 2go graphics.

Hey, you have the same pair of Altec Lansing speakers I had a long time ago! It looks the AVS500 (I think that was the name of it). Came with 2 front speakers, 2 additional for surround, and a subwoofer. The set I had died several years ago - bought them new originally. After 10 years of good use, the subwoofer started to go crazy (humming, garbled-thumps [unlike a normal thump], and just oddball sounds). I would have to turn unplug the subwoofer (aka the main unit) when I wasn't using it. If I left it plugged in, it would still do some of the oddest things. I remember I dropped a heavy box by accident, and it some how made the subwoofer go on a rant. Then one morning I was recording some audio, and then out of nowhere (it wasn't doing anything) the subwoofer got into a LOUD rant! I had enough. I busted front part open, and cut the main cord to the stupid thing. It was finally over. I killed the subwoofer. The rest of the speakers worked - even the surround. But then eventually the left front speaker died, so I threw the entire system into a box and it now sits in my closet. I ended up buying a new pair of speakers, and the only brand WalMart had at the time: Altec Lansing! At least the unit works! Kids don't try what I did at home - the unit was still on and plugged in. I have good knowledge of what and what not to do. Anyways, very nice video! -Henry

Oh, I just heard the part where you said the 2.1 surround sound only. I'm guessing it's an AVS300. I have a spare subwoofer for it - I got it a while back from a friend of mine. Never used it - don't know if it works.

Windows 2000 is better a lot better. Why? No ugly DRM activation though if you have a Dell brand that's no problem with XP. Build a say 2002 to 2006 era custom PC then XP is a problem unless you want to use a hacked (Vulnerable) no activation needed version of XP..If Microsoft ever went belly up you won't be able to activate at all. It's possible that they might decide not to reactivate ancient OS's in the future too.2000 will run most software that runs on XP too.
