Some fun context: Webber has said he wasn’t going to sign with the Canes and would see what was out there on the market. This would imply that the Leafs talked to him and are fairly confident he would sign with them (having three BU teammates on the Marlies probably helps). On his lack of offense (from someone who’s watched him live the past few years) his offense is a little like Brandon Carlo. He’s gonna slapshot pucks toward the net and 9 times out of 10 it’s gonna get blocked or hit the post. But these shot attempts are usually enough to get the puck towards the net for the forwards to go to work and result in sustained o-zone time. And his 107 blocked shots actually leads the whole NCAA, guy’s just out there putting his body on the line. He’s the type of defenseman you don’t really notice in a good way. Has the potential to be a sneaky pickup for the Leafs.

Doubt Liljegren is moved. hard to see treliving moving 1 of the only 2 right shot D on the team. If anything, its Brodie who's gone. expiring deal, Brad didn't resign him back in Calgary, doesnt play that physical style of defense. The assets you could add with his $5mm cap hit would be so much better too.

Defensive D man with size, would will likely play 2nd or 3rd line and penalty kill when if brought up.... or a 6th round draft pick. I would put that with the offensive power BU has, Webber's job is to be his goalies best friend. I think this is the safe pick. A better chance out of Webber to make the team in the next few years than a 6th, and the team has signed offense for years.

The thing is for d-men that are not big/physical guys, especially on the bottom pairings: when you are a scoring player on defense that has a slumb, you are a non-scoring player that can‘t defend. When a defensive d-man is having a bad stretch he still provides physicality, grit, shot blocking and just his weight/presence in front. When a liljegren is not performing on the 3rd pairing, he is just so much worse for team success than edmundson would be. In all of american sports, everyone is always about scoring, even if it is unefficient. You win more playoff games with an edmundson on your 3rd pairing. No discussion
@UzumakiNaruto_
@UzumakiNaruto_ 4 ай бұрын
The thing is Liljegren IS playing well most of the time and he's shown he can step up and play well when given the chance. However Keefe always seemed to not give him much of a chance to prove himself and also let him play through his mistakes rather than benching him/reducing his minutes. Can't help but think that Tim wouldn't be better now if he wasn't put to the side and have Sandin and Holl take priority over him by Keefe.

Thanks for the update Steve. After watching the Bruins - Leafs game. Back to that thing about the refs picking the Leafs. I think the real issue is most of the refs are closet Leaf fans. Then add the IQ level of the average ref is dropping. That seems to be something effecting North Americans all over. But for refs... I think the IQ drop added to Leaf worship is why we're seeing the imbalance in calls. The IQ thing really explains the unbelievable stupidity of some of the over-blow calls and the missed calls. The refs have a hard time seeing red, blood, on Leaf players because the refs are mesmerized by the blue and white Leaf uniforms. Oh... they are so pretty. Or something like that. As for the department of player safety and discipline. They don't have excuses. Where there are brain damage issues in the NHL administration they have interns to do difficult things like read, review video, and answer telephone calls. No one wants to over tax the NHL as an organization. Clearly there are challenges. I guess we'll have to see how many games Tavares gets after he decapitated that Bruin player in the third period. All that blood!!! This is basically how one particular Boston sports caster portrayed the play. Of course Brad Marchand will get an award for inflicting brain damage on Matthew Knies. Of course a Boston sports caster almost called it a dive and caught himself as his partner took note that Knies was bleeding. Too bad we can give the sports casters embellishment penalties.
