As a Capitals fan, I've been happy with Edmundson all season. We have a lot of problems, among them being that we don't have enough guys who deserve to be a top line forward or a top pairing defenseman. But I've never expected Edmundson to be a top pair defenseman, or even a second pairing defenseman. I've expected him to be a physical third pairing defenseman, and he's done that. His salary isn't bad, and unlike some of our other veteran defensemen that belong as a third pairing defenseman (Jensen and Van Riemsdyk), he's not signed for future seasons, or being paid enough that you might want him to be a second pairing defenseman. He's been slightly better than Ethan Bear, who like Edmundson, is being paid a salary that makes being a third pairing defenseman acceptable. A third round draft pick is a bit of a steep price to pay for a rental of a solid very physical third pairing defenseman. But Edmundson is what the Leafs need for the playoffs. And I really hope that he crosschecks Marchand in the head in the playoffs.

Usually it's pretty embarrassing when a parent doesn't know how old their kid is, but as someone with only a tenuous hold on what day of the week it is that was a relatable moment

Oh Wayne Simmonds - the guy Dubas chose over Corey Perry 4 years ago. Both Perry and Edmundson were key contributors to the Habs beating the Leafs, and were both easily available for Dubas to sign himself that season - had he ever known what he was doing in the first place.

I completely agree that Edmundson is a big body on the back end for the playoffs, when you actually need players like that. Also definitely a problem when you only have one right shooting defenceman going into the playoffs. When a friend of mine had his first kid, I saw him weeks later and he looked like a zombie and not one of those healthy zombies either. I don't think he appreciated it when I asked if I should call an ambulance after seeing him.

Based on how Reilly played the other night does this really matter…he’s the #1, which is a further indictment of this D core.

When the Habs went to the COVID Stanley Cup Final, Edmundson, Chariot, Weber, Romanov and Kulak beat the crap out of anyone who got near Price. Like you said, that doesn’t get into analytics. It’s playoffs!

I think it’s never a bad move to acquire a cup winning defensemen. The playoff experience of 2 cup finals is worth a pick in and of itself, let alone the big body and the ferocity being something the leafs need. I like the move. More 6’5” guys please.

Habs fan here, and I love Edmundson (especially 2021 playoff Edmundson), but I don't know how well he'll fit with the Leafs. Him and Chiarot were effective in the playoffs, but they were also paired with Petry and Weber respectively. On the Leafs, if he's gonna be the D that the other partner relies on, it'll be interesting to see what happens.

Like the cost. Love the player. Can't help but hope this is to make brodie movable. Clearing cap space for a big top RD. His stats look bad. But who looks good on Washington right now?

I would bank on Brodie getting traded rather than Liljegren. Keefe has been clear that you need RHD on the right side, otherwise guys get exploited. Brodie looked absolutely unplayable on the right side all season, to the point where people were legitimately bringing up Robidas island. Since moving back to the correct side, he’s been great. I’m not going to say it can’t happen but it would be a blunder to trade our only puck-moving RHD who is still young and shows brilliant aspects of his game for picks just because we have a 1-yr rental whose role isn’t even tied to being on the right side. Like, hell, play a 2-1-2 system with Liljegren in the middle, Edmundson and Brodie on the back end, and you’d have Matthews/Marner or Tavares/Nylander up front.

Why would they want to recoup pics for a contributor like Liljegren when they are going for the cup?

I think people hugely over-value third round picks. Any pick past pick 45 has virtually the same likelihood of playing significant games in the NHL (according to a study done at St Lawrence University). The Leafs gave up two future players who most likely will never play significant games in the NHL. I'm ok with that price.

I still feel the Leafs are looking for another right shout dman. It just doesn't make sense they add a left shot dman when they need a right shot guy who can play big minutes with Rielly. Lybushchyn can be a stop gap.

In this recent bout of DejaVu...... Toronto rummages through the bargain bin picking out another left-handed defenseman and dusts him off. What Toronto needed was a puck-moving Right-handed defenseman. Edmundson is alright, but how will he win games for you? 10 years into the Shanaplan and we still need that RHD. There were deals on the table for Nylander that involved RHD coming back.

Need to get another defenceman for top four( probably not realistic until off season) and an another centre third line that can kill penalties and create some secondary scoring.

The Montreal pairings were: Chiarot-Weber Edmundson-Petry Edmundson, yes, was good in front of the net. But he handles the puck like it's the first time he's ever seen one. Petry carried that pairing hard. Edmundson was exposed without Petry. He was god awful with the Habs before being traded.

The stupidity of acquiring a left handed defenseman when the Leafs so badly need a right hand, stupifies me. Bad management, and bad coaching. Clear some cap space and stop trading draft picks. Patience!

Leafs needed a #1 and #3 D. Let's face it Rielly is at best a 2, maybe a 3. Edmundson slots in at like 4, and is instantly their best defensive defenseman. WT actual F? All this trade did is force the bottom half of their defense to where they belong. They still don't have a top half. Toronto has no one that can scout defenseman. They are done in 5 first round. No chance of advancing.
