So late to this topic as I just found your channel. Can’t speak on alt fashion as much but as for anime, I don’t have a problem with adults watching anime or any form of animation. I stopped watching because I did become more interested in other things but more so I hated the recycled tropes and the hyper sexualized, misogynistic depictions. I felt like anime wasn’t growing with me if that makes sense. But I think I was also far more casual a fan than I previously thought.

I think that there are less adults that are pop culture and internet conscious then we frequent internet users think there are. Because within digital spaces it feels very much like adults watching anime is common knowledge even outside of the anime community. But within real world spaces where that level of awareness is less of a given it feels very much like it is not common knowledge and therefore is seen as being a rarity. Now the thing about the tiktok being discussed that irked me personally as an anime fan was that she says "and you have a college degree and everything and you're just ...mhm" it feels like she is implying that it's hard for her to even fathom the idea that an educated adult would watch an anime in earnest, that part feels insulting not the question itself. And it makes me feel like she has a lot of thought to put into what she just asked and how she asked it.

I stopped watching as I got into my later 20s because it seemed I was outside of the target audience. Feels weird getting into a show where the majority of the characters are high school kids. At least some of the older shows were a bit grittier with an older cast of characters sometimes. But if all of the characters are kids I feel like I'm an adult watching the Disney channel again.

I say that if you have your bills paid, if you have kids and they're taken care of, and have a healthy social life, why should it matter how someone decides entertain themselves?🤷🏾‍♀️

Wait till these kids get 25+ and it will down on them out of nowhere so fast, they are going to freak out.

As a Gothic Lolita,I don't go out in lolita in my day to day life. It's really time consuming to dress in full lolita and also quite inconvenient for day to day activities. Lolita is only for special occasions. Daily,you wouldn't be able to tell me apart from any random person at all. (Haven't worn it in a long time,either because it's expensive and I don't have the finances to go places or to buy new lolita clothing and accessories. Also health is a big part of me staying indoors). People in their late 20's and up who still dress up in full gear frequently have all my admiration because at that age,it's just too exhausting. For most of us,our bodie and brain have already given up on many daily life stuff. Like it hurts for a couple of days when you just sleep slightly wrong,so no way I am doing full lolita or Goth to run errands or meet friends. Going to a convention or a lolita gathering once in a while,sure. Other than it's a no for me 🤣

I went to art school and even there where I feel you can find academic appreciation for anime as art, in general I still feel xenophobia in the air, it’s strange, because I feel it there, put in a liberal state nobody is going to point it out😂 you can only hear very private discussions about how they think students shouldn’t voice their animation in Japanese

I wonder what opinions that woman has on marvel and dc fans😢I can’t tell the big difference in general if those are considered “childish “
