Ok, not only is deliberately destroying instruments a waste of money, art, and beauty; but how insulting to the people who spent their own, valuable time making these instruments! Not only that, but these people could be giving these instruments to people who will love and treasure them! Guys, please, even if you hate an instrument, please don’t destroy it. It deserves love, so give it to someone who will treasure it.

@@Sebastian-ce4ig You're right, I live in a 3rd world country, South East Asia. An average guitar player (non professional) could usually spare only 50$ for guitars, I'm lucky to be able to afford a 500$ guitar, and I'm not even professional, but then again 500$ is actually an affordable price for guitars in other parts of the world, and it is technically in the affordable line up of the brand. I'm definitely familiar with double standards. And obviously I wasn't referring to those Gibson guitars they destroyed, THAT is a waste for sure. But that cello, violin that those people destroyed would have very little impact. We don't know what was going on off camera as well.

The teacher responded "you can go down to the guidance office and make sure you're not in my class next year."

You should check out The Who appearance on The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour. Their rather eccentric drummer Keith Moon packed his bass drum full of explosives to go off at the end of the performance, unbeknownst to the shows producers. It resulted in shrapnel being lodged in Moons arm, the guitarist Pete Townsends hair catching alight and permanent hearing loss for the lead singer Roger Daltrey. Worst of all though, it caused their mild mannered bass guitarist virtuoso John Entwistle to step slightly to the side out of the way.

There were so many fricking guitars and they destroyed them all for literally no reason 😭. The least they could have done is donate them to charity or less fortunate kids, there a kids who literally have a whole orchestra with instruments made of rubbish. If if they didn’t want to give them away they could have at least sold them, I’d much rather know that I got 40 bucks for my guitar and it went to a good home where it was played and loved than it being destroyed.

All that money down the toilet also those guitars could of gone out to deprived kids to inspire them into having a go at music, maybe even developing a future genius writer or player. Seeing people destroying things so easily makes me really uncomfortable, thinking about how many people would die to have something like what is being destroyed.

I really enjoyed piano, and I sing, but it’s always been hard. I’ve been thinking about getting back into piano now that COVID has calmed down a bit thanks to you guys, so thank you for inspiring my love of classical music again. That Gibson video is painful. That was sacrilegious for the entire guitar community when it came out. They were closing down a factory and that was an epic fail of a guitar design from the now ousted CEO. (Not to insult the guy, he saved the company in the 80s, he just could not keep up with the times...). They put all their efforts into developing this model for a year and a half, and nobody bought it because it was expensive and over-engineered. Even so, it could have been donated to less fortunate musicians or schools. It was still a quality instrument despite it's flaws. I think it came down to it being cheaper to destroy them than to find a place for them. They failed to see how much of a PR disaster it would be; among a seemingly infinite string of PR disasters that plagued the company. Gibsons are heritage instruments (remember electric guitars are new instruments, Gibson's golden period 1956-1960 is truly like our Stradivari). I don't know anything about violin brands, but it's as if a truly historic maker decided to put automatic geared tuners, a synthetic fingerboard, and a complex active preamp in a violin, and charged a premium + price for it. Nobody buys it because their customers are traditionalists, so they throw hundreds of them in a woodchipper and an employee takes a video of it. Horrifying hahah

@@eliter7991 do musicians experiment with video cams to get sounds and break them in the process? No. Even though that would actually give a producer a lot of interesting sound textures to work with. Why do videographers and showmakers experiment with breaking musical instruments? Plus, look up Jared Dines, he did the right thing with $80k. He raised some money, gave $20k dollars himself and donated it to a lot of kids so they can buy an instrument they couldn't afford otherwise. That's what a respectable person does if they have the opportunity. That's what Gibson guitars could do. That would even be a better as campaign than destroying all of those instruments. So... This is not the same as breaking a decoration and if you don't understand that after my lengthy comment, well, to quote you from another thread, "that's your problem".

Amalia Khaydarova, I agree that you shouldn’t destroy your instrument like that for any reason, but it is certainly not the teachers job to yell at someone for playing out of tune. Its not like the cellist was trying to be spiteful or mean by playing out of tune, they are trying their best. That teacher should be held partially or even mostly accountable for this sadness and destruction. My teacher only yells at people if they are not trying or being disruptive to the other musicians. We should be encouraging artistic effort and passion, not squashing it by yelling at musicians for trying their best. I don’t think we need to be incriminating this cellist to the level stated, as two-setters we need to educate and encourage not punish. I agree that there is no place for instrument abuse and what the cellist did was completely sacreligious, but musician abuse needs to be taken seriously too.

True, very true. But the thing is he was very persistent with not trying to fix what he was doing wrong. He would almost never practice and was technically not trying to be rude or anything but he would just bring the orchestra down. He wouldn’t even try. The teacher once had a conference with his parents about how he was doing in orchestra but the parents didn’t do a thing to support their son. The boy also didn’t have the thought of practice makes you better so everyday he wouldn’t even try. My teacher may be a little bit strict but she had reasons. I hope. 😓 But, what you said was again, very true.

@@kad296 Not really, Jimi Hendrix gets an exception because he painted his guitar, kissed his guitar before burning it, left his guitar plugged in and created an unforgettable performance that couldn't have been created without the destruction of his instrument. Green Day broke a guitar out of frustration that had nothing to do with artistic expression.

@@IcyTorment That's almost certainly a bullshit PR lie to make them seem less bad. Guitars do not have high voltage components. The only thing that can shock you is when the amplifier is improperly grounded, or maybe when a microphone, the guitar strings, and your body form a circuit to the PA system. The guitar alone can't hurt you.
